ALCOHOL ABUSE IN THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY

SALAAM

I'm working on this issue for a future article in The Revival, some views and comments on the following issues would be helpful:

Alcohol abuse in the Muslim community:

does it exist?

is it big but under cover?

is it as bad as weed/coke amongst our youth?

do you know muslim youth personally who drink...or even drink openly?

do you know of ex-drinkers who have now become active practising Muslims?

is drinking alcohol not seen as a 'biggie' any more?

what would be the main reasons muslim youth drink?

is drinking alcohol related to attending clubs/ pulling?

is it because booze is so easily available at supermarkets etc?

who would you say is to blame? parents/society/individual/mosques/imams/nobody?

French TV wants 12 teenagers to find a road map to Middle East peace

Most reality television shows keep their aspirations modest: good ratings, plenty of gossip and at least one participant who makes their way on to the front pages.

A French programme debuting this autumn, however, is aiming rather higher. Its mission – for 12 teenagers who choose to accept it – is nothing less than a road map to peace in the Middle East.

Les Accords de Marseille, which is expected to be broadcast on the public channel France5 in September, will bring together a dozen 18-year-olds – six from Israel, six from the Palestinian territories – and make them co-habit as they hold negotiations aimed at establishing a peace deal.

Raheel Raza leads a group of Muslims in a first ever public, woman-led Juma Prayer in Canada

A Canadian author will become the first Muslim-born woman to lead a mixed-gender British congregation through Friday prayers tomorrow in a highly controversial move that will attempt to spark a debate about the role of female leadership within Islam.

Raheel Raza, a rights activist and Toronto-based author, has been asked to lead prayers and deliver the khutbah at a small prayer session in Oxford.

Aid to Gaza

With the increasing tensions in the middle East and an increase in Israeli military activity. It is unlikely that the international community will break the blockade of Gaza. What is likely, is the increased aid from mainstream NGO's and the UN to the people of Gaza.

I was wondering what this forum's thoughts were for sending aid to Gaza through an already established and respected charity instead of handing aid over to Hamas.

Hamas has declared that it is their mission to kill all Jews, not just Israelis! It has taken the book "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" and endorsed it within their charter, an anti-Semitic fabrication produced by Christian and czarist extremists and adopted by the Nazis to support their agenda.

"The Inspired by Muhammad campaign is designed to improve the public understanding of Islam and Muslims. It showcases Britons demonstrating how Muhammad inspires them to contribute to society, with a focus on women’s rights, social justice and the environment. The campaign coincides with a national polls conducted by YouGov which shows that the 69% of people believe that Islam encourages the oppression of women, that just 6% of people associate Islam with justice and that just 6% believe that Islam promotes active measures to protect the environment. Overall, nearly half of all people in the UK believe that Islam does not have a positive impact on British society."
