Libya's new rulers have declared the country's liberation after 42 years of being ruled by Muammar Gaddafi

Hugh crowds gathered in Benghazi were told that the "Pharaoh of our times" had been consigned to "the garbage bin of history".

NTC chief Mustafa Abdel Jalil kneeled in prayer after taking the podium and promised to uphold Islamic law.

"We as a Muslim nation have taken Islamic Sharia as the source of legislation, therefore any law that contradicts the principles of Islam is legally nullified," he said.

Earthquake Hits Turkey: Hundreds Feared Dead

Up to 1,000 people are feared dead after a major earthquake hit south-east Turkey.

Dozens of buildings were destroyed by the blast in the city of Van, trapping some victims alive under debris.

At least 100 people were believed to have been killed, although officials said the final toll could reach 1,000.

Emergency workers and residents were battling to dig people out of the rubble, using their bare hands.

Child abuse claims at UK madrassas 'tip of iceberg'

Britain's madrassas have faced more than 400 allegations of physical abuse in the past three years, a BBC investigation has discovered.

But only a tiny number have led to successful prosecutions.

The revelation has led to calls for formal regulation of the schools, attended by more than 250,000 Muslim children every day for Koran lessons.

The chairman of the Mosques and Imams National Advisory Board said he would treat the issue as a matter of urgency.

The Quran allows men to beat their wifes,
QURAN 4:34 - "Men have authority over women because God has made the one superior to the other, and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because God has guarded them. As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them. Then if they obey you, take no further action against them. Surely God is high, supreme."
