Rasulullah (Sallahu Alaihi Wassalam) said: “On no days is the worship of Allah desired more than in the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah. The fast of each of these days is equal to the fast of a whole year, and the ibaadat (worship) of each of these nights is equal to the ibaadat of laylatul qadr.” (Tirmidhi and Ibn Maajah)

Sheffield hospital plans teenager gastric balloon trial

Overweight teenagers in South Yorkshire could be fitted with gastric balloons, if a trial is approved.

Sheffield Children's Hospital said it wanted to use the balloons to help 10 morbidly obese 13 to 18-year-olds lose weight.

Those weighing between 14 and 20 stone (89kg-127kg) will be considered.

Dr Neil Wright from the hospital said the procedure was "intended as an option for young people where other treatments have not been successful".

The hospital said the procedure had been found to be effective for adults but very few studies had been carried out on young people.

The gastric balloon discourages overeating by inflating in the stomach to give the feeling of being full.

Knife crime: Teenagers face custodial sentences

Plans for mandatory custodial sentences for 16 and 17-year-olds who threaten others with knives have been unveiled by Justice Secretary Kenneth Clarke.

Convicted teenagers would face a four-month detention and training order.

The proposals form part of a new sentencing regime for the courts.

Also planned is a "two strikes and you're out" policy which would see a person convicted of a second very serious sexual or violent crime get a mandatory life sentence.

The worlds population seven billion: UN sets out challenges

A major United Nations report has set out the challenges facing humanity a few days before the world's population is expected to reach seven billion.

It identifies many reasons to celebrate, including increased life expectancy and falling fertility rates.

But it also acknowledges the risks of rapid population growth.

The UN estimates that the world's seven billionth person will be born on 31 October and says by the end of this century, the world's total population could number more than 10 billion

First 10 days of Dhul Hijjah

Abdullah Ibn ’Abbas (ra) related that the Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) said, "Good deeds performed on other days are not superior to those performed on these (first ten days of Dhul Hijjah)."

The Companions (ra) inquired, "Not even Jihad?" He replied, "Not even Jihad, except for that person who goes out putting himself and his wealth in danger and does not return with anything." (Bukhari)

The Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) said, “There are no days that are greater before Allah or in which good deeds are more beloved to Him than these ten days, so recite a great deal of tahleel, takbeer and tahmeed during them.” [Ahmad]

Govt Wins Europe Vote Amid Backbench Revolt

The Government has won a vote against holding a referendum on Britain's future in the EU - but as many as 82 Tory MPs defied the Prime Minister.

Dave had issued a last-minute appeal to his MPs as he faced the biggest rebellion of his leadership.

Tory backbenchers were told to vote against the motion calling for a referendum on whether the UK should remain in the EU, leave it or renegotiate its membership.

However, dozens of backbenchers and junior members of the Government defied orders.

In the end, the Government comfortably won the vote with a majority of 372.

Lack of outdoor play linked to short-sighted children

The time children spend outdoors could be linked to a reduced risk of being short-sighted, research suggests.

An analysis of eight previous studies by University of Cambridge researchers found that for each additional hour spent outside per week, the risk of myopia reduced by 2%.

Exposure to natural light and time spent looking at distant objects could be key factors, they said.

Exploring The Colors Of Life The Islamic Way

Islam, as a religion, graced humanity some 1400 years ago. Allah Almighty bestowed humanity with the praiseworthy presence of Muhammad (PBUH) as last of His Apostles. Since then, Muhammad (PBUH) serves humanity as the last human guide ever to lead humanity to the ways of Allah Almighty, the sole creator of the universe, aided by the Holy Scripture referred as Quran. In fact, Muslims believe that the life of Muhammad (PBUH) and Quran are the two main pillars supporting the foundations of Islam.
