Death row Briton leaves Pakistan - committing crimes abroad
Death row Briton leaves Pakistan

A British man who spent 18 years in a Pakistani jail has been freed and has flown out of the country, a day after his death sentence was lifted.

Mirza Tahir Hussain, 36, of Leeds, West Yorkshire, is expected to arrive at Heathrow Airport later on Friday.

He was convicted in 1989 of murdering a taxi driver, but always said the killing was in self-defence.

His brother Amjad said Hussain had suffered "beyond belief" and added: "We are delighted and thrilled".

He said Hussain would need help to adjust to life outside prison.

Shocking Statistics on Muslims’ Poor Performance

Shocking Statistics on Muslims’ Poor Performance

“In 2003-2004, almost a third (31 per cent) of Muslims of working age in Great Britain had no qualifications – the highest proportion for any religious group. They are also the least likely to have degrees (or equivalent qualifications).” (http://www.statistics.gov.uk/focuson/religion/default.asp - published on 11 October 2004)

The statistics clearly illustrate that Muslims are severely underachieving in education compared to their counterparts and that we urgently need to devise strategies to reverse the trend.

Caught in the middle, dilemmas of da Muslim youth in da west

Caught in the middle

I’m lost and confused
Don’t know what to do
Who to obey
Who to follow

My mind is swinging like a pendulum
And playing tricks on me
Sometimes I pray
Sometimes I chase women
Sometimes I do neither
Just hide away in my room and vegetate

At times halal and haram seem so clear
And I have nothing but fear for my creator
Other times the munkar seems appealing
And I mix with women whose clothes are revealing

I got friends
Some religious
Mostly jahil and following the western culture
When I’m in good company
I feel happy and content men
