Land Oyster Party

A 470-year-old ceremony to open world-reknowned oyster fisheries is being forced onto dry land for the first time because the mayor is seasick.

Since 1540, the opening of the Colchester fisheries has seen the town's mayor go out into the sea and dredge up the first oysters of the season, before sampling one accompanied with gin, gingerbread and a toast to the queen.

Netanyahu Admitting to subverting the Oslo peace process?

Apparently there was a recording released recently of Netanyahu talking to some settlers in 2001 telling his side of the story and mentioning how he had subverted the peace process amongst other things.

To me atleast it shows how his policy was deliberate and well, kind of exactly what I and many many others had suspected.

“I know what America is,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a group of Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, apparently not knowing his words were being recorded. “America is a thing you can move very easily, move it in the right direction. They won't get in their way,” he said in Hebrew.

Am I the only one that has noticed this but are there a lot of MEN against women wearing the veil?

Just an observation that I want to put out there to see if its just me...

But is it mostly men who are offended at women wearing the veil/niqab/burka and much more likely to speak out against it than women?

UK Burkha ban "ruled out"

Damian Green said such a move would be “rather un-British” and run contrary to the conventions of a “tolerant and mutually respectful society”.
...
“I stand personally on the feeling that telling people what they can and can’t wear, if they’re just walking down the street, is a rather un-British thing to do,” he said. “We’re a tolerant and mutually respectful society.

“There are times, clearly, when you’ve got to be able to identify yourself, and people have got to be able to see your face, but I think it’s very unlikely and it would be undesirable for the British Parliament to try and pass a law dictating what people wore.

Conservative MP refuses to meet with Muslim constituents wearing a veil

Philip Hollobone, MP for Kettering, was accused by Muslim groups of "failing in his duty" as MP.

Mr Hollobone is trying to bring in a Private Member's Bill to ban women wearing the burka or niqab in public.

He said he "took the view" that since a constituent was able to see his face he should be able to see theirs.

He argued that he would not be able to satisfy himself of the identity of a person without being able to do so.

Mr Hollobone said that he would "invite" anyone who did not wish to remove their veil to communicate with him in a "different way", such as by letter, rather than face to face.

He said that the burka or niqab was not a religious requirement and that the majority of Muslim women dressed in a way in which their face was visible.
