Some ethnic groups will disappear

One in 10 children in the UK now lives in a mixed-race family, a major study reveals today, raising future hopes of a non-racist Britain.

Mixed-race relationships are now so common that some ethnic groups - starting with African-Caribbean - will virtually disappear, the research states. Young people are six times more likely to be mixed-race as adults. Experts believe the findings, which come just days after Prince Harry was rebuked for calling a fellow cadet "Paki", and Prince Charles admitted to referring to an Asian friend as "Sooty", mean that future generations "will not see race in the way we see it".

Women vs Men: jobs

Women will lose out to men in the race for new jobs created as Britain emerges from recession, according to a government-funded report. A major shift in the battle of the sexes looms as men grab both the majority of new posts generated over the next eight years and a bigger share of jobs in previously female-dominated industries, according to the study from the Employment and Skills Commission.

The findings are surprising, given that girls outstrip boys from GCSE results to degree level: only last year senior policymakers were speculating that women could soon form the majority of the workforce.

Standing against a tide of hatred

Standing against a tide of hatred

It is not Israel's action, but the vitriolic reaction to it that has been disproportionate. There's only one explanation: antisemitism

Is it good for the Jews?

If you were so inclined, you could ask that question about the Madoff mess, the Gaza offensive, the latest screed from Alan Dershowitz – or about a new recipe for angel-food cake. Which is to say, if you are looking for antisemitism, you can find it anywhere, even in a dessert cookbook. But if even paranoids have enemies, I think it's fair to say that these are tough times for Jews.

Man refuses to drive 'No God' bus

Man refuses to drive 'No God' bus

A Christian bus driver has refused to drive a bus with an atheist slogan proclaiming "There's probably no God".

Ron Heather, from Southampton, Hampshire, responded with "shock" and "horror" at the message and walked out of his shift on Saturday in protest.

First Bus said it would do everything in its power to ensure Mr Heather does not have to drive the buses.

Buses across Britain started displaying atheist messages in an advertising campaign launched earlier this month.

Mr Heather told BBC Radio Solent: "I was just about to board and there it was staring me in the face, my first reaction was shock horror.

Sacrifice

I was wondering the other night.

If like the Prophet Abraham (as) we would be willing to sacrifice something as precious as your own son for the sake of Allah (swt).
Made me think how hard it would be.

For a second imagine you were given something really precious and then you had to give it up FSA.

Cant say for sure if i would be able to do that.

Miliband regrets 'war on terror'

Miliband regrets 'war on terror'

The idea of a "war on terror" is a "mistake", putting too much emphasis on military force, Foreign Secretary David Miliband has said.

Writing in the Guardian, Mr Miliband said the idea had unified disparate "terrorist groups" against the West.

He said the right response to the threat was to champion law and human rights - not subordinate it.

Mr Miliband repeated the views in a speech in Mumbai, India, the scene of attacks by gunmen last year.

Mr Miliband's warning comes five days before the end of US President George Bush's administration, which has led the so-called "war on terror"...

Drink coffee and you could start seeing ghosts.......

People who drink too much coffee could start seeing ghosts or hearing strange voices, UK research has suggested.

People who drank more than seven cups of instant coffee a day were three times more likely to hallucinate than those who took just one, a study found.

A Durham University team questioned 200 students about their caffeine intake, the journal Personality and Individual Differences reported.

However, academics say the findings do not prove a "causal link".

They also stress that experiencing hallucinations is not a definite sign of mental illness and that about 3% of people regularly hear voices.

Secret inquest plans reintroduced

Secret inquest plans reintroduced

Ministers are reintroducing measures to hold some inquests in secret on national security grounds.

The new bill covering coroners, murder laws, witness protection and sentencing comes months after the secret inquest plans were dropped in Parliament.

The Ministry of Justice says the secret inquests will prevent sensitive intelligence material leaking.

When the idea was first introduced - in last year's Counter Terrorism Act - it faced widespread opposition.

The Coroners and Justice Bill is one of the largest pieces of legislation produced by the Ministry of Justice, which is responsible for law, the courts and penal system...
