Near Death Experiences- What do you think?

Near Death Experiences

Definition:
A near-death experience (NDE), refers to a broad range of personal experiences associated with impending death, encompassing multiple possible sensations including detachment from the body; feelings of levitation; extreme fear; total serenity, security, or warmth; the experience of absolute dissolution; and the presence of a light, which some people interpret as a deity. Some see NDEs as a paranormal and spiritual glimpse into the afterlife.

Such cases are usually reported after an individual has been pronounced clinically dead, or otherwise very close to death, hence the entitlement near-death experience.

Anti-smoking ad 'scares children'

A government advert aimed at convincing parents to give up smoking upset children and broke several rules, the Advertising Standards Authority says.

The independent regulator ruled that the "I'm not scared" TV advert, which attracted 51 complaints overall, should not be shown before 7.30pm.

In it, a girl says she is not afraid of spiders, clowns or bullies, but does fear her mother - a smoker - dying...

I am quite sure the ad was MEANT to frighten people and get them to think about quitting or not start smoking.

Overthrowing unjust leadership

Salaams,

You know how you hear people talk about revolution etc and how it needs blood (I remember bringing this up in another topic and I did want to expand in it there, but cannot find it, so new topic), A question - Islamically are people allowed to overthrow leadership for any reason?

I am certain that I read a hadith once which said that in the4 face of an unjust ruler, pray for steadfastness, patience, but I cannot seem to find it.

There is a similar question on Islam Online which says as part of the answer:

Miss Universe's fun day out - at Guantánamo Bay

Talk about being ditzy!

The 240 people who live in very basic lodgings on the southern tip of a sunny Caribbean island may wish to reconsider the less-than-rosy opinion they have of their surroundings.

No less an authority than Miss Universe has visited Guantánamo Bay and pronounced the infamous US detention centre a "relaxing, calm, beautiful place".

...

"We visited the detainees' camps and we saw the jails, where they shower, how the[y] recreate themselves with movies, classes of art, books. It was very interesting," wrote Mendoza. "I didn't want to leave, it was such a relaxing place, so calm and beautiful."

Queen Victoria who? Tis All about Twitter nowadays....

Twitter 'to replace Victorians on primary school curriculum'

Times Online

Primary school pupils could be taught to master Twitter instead of learning about the Victorians, under proposed changes to the curriculum.

Sir Jim Rose, the former head of Ofsted, is due recommendations for updating the primary curriculum to ministers next month.

Three months ago he said in his interim report that primary age children need a greater understanding of information technology. In his final report he is expected to flesh this recommendation out, suggesting that children should be familiar with blogging, podcasts, Wikipedia and Twitter by the time they go to secondary school.

[TV SHOW] The Wire

Salaams all,

Today is a special day.

BBC2 will start showing one of the best series of tv ever made. Or the most pretentious.

Its slow and also a cop show, so if that is something that puts you off, totally ignore this post. (it will probably take a few episodes before you get into the show...)

Anyway, Episode 1 is on BBC 2 at 11.20pm. And then a new episode (almost) every night for the next three months.

Better than The Apprentice.

WANTED - Scholars Of Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'ah

An email someone sent me.
Pls share your views:

WANTED - SCHOLARS OF AHLUS SUNNAH WAL JAMA'AH

We see them in prisons, being tortured, persecuted and extradited. We also see them on the run and being chased by the authorities. Who are they? They are the scholars of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamah. What are they wanted for? The only crime they have committed is that they believe in Allah (swt), fearlessly speak the truth and carry the message of Islam. Simply, these scholars are part of
the vanguard of light and righteousness, radiating the path of Islamic Monotheism and exposing corrupted beliefs of Polythiesm.

SEX EDUCATION IN STATE SCHOOLS

SEX EDUCATION IN STATE SCHOOLS

Last autumn the Government announced that lessons about personal, social and health matters including sex and relationships will be compulsory in all England's schools from ages 5 to 16. As Muslim parents, teachers and school governors, the subject of Sex and Relationship Education (SRE) has always been an uncomfortable one. On the one hand we are aware of falling moral standards but
on the other hand, the lack of response from the Muslim community is leading to our children developing dual personalities.
