Outcry as 'sad' Mafia boss freed

An Italian senator has demanded the government intervene after a convicted Mafia boss was freed from jail because he was suffering from depression.

Anti-Mafia Commission member Carlo Vizzini called the release of Giacomo Ieni into house arrest "scandalous".

Action must follow Obama's words

By Tariq Ramadan

Obama's speech to Muslims will mean little if its symbolism is not followed up by concrete measures to restore trust

The relationship between the United States and Muslims has been so damaged after eight years of the Bush administration that the whole world is now wondering: what is Barack Obama going to say to Muslims? What should he say to restore confidence and trust?

Recycling madness.

ok, there should be limits to madness and I think Oldham Council has gone well beyond its.

Once upon a time a long long time ago, there was a single grey bin for all rubbish. Nice and simple for the residents, but it did not encourage much recycling, so the council/government thought it would be a good idea to encourage recycling.

In the first phase there were these medium sized containers given for plastics and glass. THey were however easy to lose and in many cases the wind blew them away, but people still sued them.

Speaking in Tongues (Burden of Proof)

In 1859 Charles Darwin published his book “The Origin of the Species” both scientists and Church leaders alike immediately attacked the claims he made in this book. The “Burden of Proof” for Darwin’s theories was placed firmly at Darwin’s feet. It was for Charles Darwin to establish that life evolved from a single cell organism, with evidence. The burden was not for other scientist or religious leaders to prove evolution false.

Now; almost 150 years later the “theory of Evolution” is still just that; “a theory” But an interesting thing has happened in the wider community. The “Burden of Proof” has now shifted from the Darwinist to prove their claims, to the Church and other scientist to disprove evolution and prove the existence of God or some other alternative.

As Pakistan wastes away in its existential crisis, a fundamental question about the nature of the country is coming to the fore: are its citizens Pakistanis who happen to be Muslims, or are they Muslims who happen to be Pakistanis? Which comes first, flag or faith?
