Girl who does not age

Doctors Baffled, Intrigued by Girl Who Doesn't Age

Brooke Greenberg is the size of an infant, with the mental capacity of a toddler.

She turned 16 in January.

"Why doesn't she age?" Howard Greenberg, 52, asked of his daughter. "Is she the fountain of youth?"

Such questions are why scientists are fascinated by Brooke. Among the many documented instances of children who fail to grow or develop in some way, Brooke's case may be unique, according to her doctor, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine pediatrician Lawrence Pakula, in Baltimore.

"Many of the best-known names in medicine, in their experience ... had not seen anyone who matched up to Brooke," Pakula said. "She is always a surprise."

Watch "20/20" FRIDAY at 10 p.m. ET for Brooke's story.

Horror of Kenya's 'witch' lynchings

Villagers, many straight from their farms, and armed with machetes, sticks and axes, are shouting and crowding round in a big group in Kenya's fertile Kisii district.

I can't see clearly what is going on, but heavy smoke is rising from the ground and a horrible stench fills the air.

More people are streaming up the hill, some of them with firewood and maize stalks.

Suddenly an old woman breaks from the crowd, screaming for mercy. Three or four people go after her, beat her and drag her back, pushing her onto - what I can now see - is a raging fire.

Burned alive

I was witnessing a horrific practice which appears to be on the increase in Kenya - the lynching of people accused of being witches.

French President calls for ban on "burkha"

The half pint president of France Shorty Sarkozy has laid the groundwork for a possible ban on the "burkha" in a speech today in France. What's confusing me is the "breach of individual freedom" tag often associated with those who wear the veil.

Apparently, Shorty believes in the freedom of choice which allows his wife to model naked but not the other end of the scale which allows a women to freely express her religious customs and tradition. He could take a lesson from the mature civilised approach of President Hussein Obama on freedom of religion when he said “we are not going to tell people what to wear”.

Keep Your Hearts Close

"Why do we shout in anger?" a wali asked. "Why do people shout at each other when they are upset?"

His disciples thought for a while. One of them said: "Because we lose our calm; we shout for that."

"But why do you shout when the other person is just next to you?" asked the wali. "Isn't it possible to speak to him or her with a soft voice? Why do you shout at a person when you are angry?"

The disciples gave some other answers but none satisfied the wali. Finally, he explained: "When two people are angry at each other, their hearts become distanced. To cover that distance they must shout to be able to hear each other. The angrier they are, the louder they will have to shout to hear each other through that great distance."
