Claiming state benefits in Britain is HARAM.

I say that the above statement is true because the Quran has stated that we must pay taxes (this is a Jizya because we are a minority living in a majority country). On the other hand, claiming benefits is not stated as being permissible and is not part of the Sharia, likely because it forms part of a secular system which not based on collection/distribution of Zakat. The taxes which we pay (those who do) are used for the schools which our children attend and the hospitals which we use when we are ill.

University staff asked to inform on 'vulnerable' Muslim students

University staff including lecturers, chaplains and porters are being asked to inform the police about Muslim students who are depressed or isolated under new guidance for countering Islamist radicalism.

The move has resulted in deep discomfort among university lecturers and student union officials who wish to combat terrorism but say the new strategy is an infringement of students' civil liberties.

New Rules For Women Considering Abortion

The Department of Health is to announce plans for a new system of independent counselling for women before they finally commit to terminating a pregnancy.

Pro-life campaigners suggest the change, designed to give women more "breathing space", could result in up to 60,000 fewer abortions each year in Britain.

Last year, 202,400 were carried out.

Eid and zakaatul Fitr - general info

Sunnahs of 'Eed

1) It is Sunnah to dress in the best clothes we have on Eed. It was narrated that Ibn 'Umar radiyAllahu anhu used to do that along with other Companions of the Prophet sallalahu alayhi wa sallam. [Fath al-Baaree]

2) It is a must (Waajib) to pray Eed al-Fitr Prayer. The Prophet sallalahu alayhi wa sallam and his Companions never ceased doing it, and they even gathered the people for it including women who were having their menses, children and the elderly. [Bukhaaree and Muslim]

3) It is Sunnah to eat dates before we leave for Eed prayer to show that we are not fasting. " The Prophet sallalahu alayhi wa sallam used not to leave for Eed Prayer (except) after eating some dates." [Bukhaaree and Ahmad]
