Cairo: City of a Thousand Minarets

As the aircraft steers towards the runway in Cairo, the sun beams through the small window accompanying my seat. From above I can vividly see minarets reaching out into the skyline from the hundreds or so mosques that line the streets of Cairo.

Onto the road, the city is no longer at a distance and it soon becomes apparent this ancient city possesses something unique.

Yalla Yalla! Come on shouts the traffic warden as I try to battle it out to get through the traffic onto the other side in order to reach the hotel.

As I get closer a young boy barely old enough to care for himself grabs my arm and attempts to escort me to a nearby café, as he ran all the way just for me, I accept but do not go until I check into the hotel, so then he waits outside.

Reality's the biggest issue on my plate to be solving

always treasure what you have cus its safe to say,
what is given, god can take away,
but the passion inside will never be diminshed,
separate the flames but they wont be extinguished,
say its cus of what your meant to beleive in,
Or is it just that freedom never had any meaning,
Its hard to see the stars if your living in a basement,
But when your flying then your smiling in amazement
Me i find it kinda hard to be patient,
Everything i need got taken away so,
I feel like i'm fading, fading away
Yet i wont let it happen or anything stand in my way,
I thought it was over nothing left of me to give,
Cus you could find a piece of me everywhere i bin,
But giving up to me is liek a sin,
So i always gota find a way that i can live,

so what if Miss USA is Muslim?

Being proud of "Muslim achievements" should only come into place when the achievements are a good and thing.

What will we have next - "best muslim barman"?

Muslims are supposed to compete in virtue, try to improve themselves, be better in doing good things, not in sin.

Besides, apart from maintaiming a good diet and exercise routine, many of the traits are genetic and not exactly personal achievements.

The Veil: Human right or violation of women

There has been much controversy surrounding the wearing of the Muslim veil in Europe. Since France's controversial plan to implementing fines on any women in breach of the public order wearing a veil.

To many the aesthetics of a Muslim Woman wearing a veil are not welcome, her face his hidden, all facial expressions that are a vital part to conversation are hidden away. It may be to no surprise that such a move banning the veil was coming.

I am liking the Con Dem agenda for change...

A day late this is. Yesterday the Con Dem alliance released a longer 31 page manifesto type thing and generally I am in favour of quite a bit of it.

The civil liberties changes proposed such as scrapping ID cards, cutting back on a few other things, reviewing/repealing parts of the anti terrorism legislation etc are all good (especially since it seems to discriminate against Muslims).

The bad bits are the europe and foriegn affairs bits - pulling out of the world is not a good or wanted thing in my eyes. It is short term stupidity and may have lasting consequences.

I would love some of the civil liberties things to go through early though - before either the coalition collapses or the powers that be change their mind after getting addicted to power.
