"Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him, and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honour. " Surah Isra [17:23]

Iran 'formally rejects nuclear fuel deal'

Iran has told the International Atomic Energy Agency it does not accept the terms of a deal to ease concerns about its nuclear programme, diplomats say.

For months, the Iranian government has criticised the offer to ship low-enriched uranium abroad in return for fuel, but never responded formally.

But diplomats say Tehran is now suggesting an alternative involving a simultaneous exchange on its territory.

Correspondents say the proposal is very unlikely to be acceptable to the West.

The US and its allies fear Iran is attempting to develop nuclear weapons. Iran insists its nuclear programme is entirely peaceful.

All Terrorists are Muslims… Except the 94% that Aren’t

I am not a fan of loonwatch or their methods of debate, but I liked this title. Disclaimer: It is about the US of A.

CNN recently published an article entitled Study: Threat of Muslim-American terrorism in U.S. exaggerated; according to a study released by Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, “the terrorist threat posed by radicalized Muslim-Americans has been exaggerated.”

Women's Boxing

What are your thoughts on women's boxing? Is it right or wrong?

What about your views on the sport itself? Does it make a difference if it's women or men who are punching each others lights out in the ring?

Those of you who watch men's boxing, are you as enthusiastic about watching women fighting it out in the ring?

In 2012 women's boxing will be included in the Olympics. Is it about time, or just equality gone mad?

Someone who's hoping she's there fighting at the 2010 London Olympics is Ambreen Sadiq aged 15 - the first Muslim female boxer in the UK. She's not just got her opponent to worry about or the fact she's competing in a male dominated sport, but also religious restraints and cultural stigma.

Is the grass greener on the other side?

Salaams,

I used to think that the UK had it all. Comfort, good standard of living, rights etc...thought I was pretty set here...I did wonder in the back of my mind, how nice it would be to teach second langauge kids in a foreign country...

Fortunately, a few months after getting married, our british qualifications presented us with the opportunity to live in Egypt for a year...I've been living in Egypt for the last 4 months now.

Interestingly enough, after living here for a while now, I'm torn...dunno if I prefer living here for the rest of my life or back in the UK.

Use this thread to discuss the pros and con's of living here vs living oversea...

Panorama - A Walk in the Park

The fight is on for the holiest city in the holy land. The Israelis say Jerusalem must never be divided; the Palestinians say the east of the city is theirs and must become the capital of a new state.

Jane Corbin walks through the disputed streets and parks, meeting families thrown out of their homes, witnessing bulldozers demolishing houses and goes underground to explore tunnels excavated deep below the biblical site.

Islamic Solidarity Games cancelled over Gulf [name] dispute

The Islamic Solidarity Games, due to be held in Iran in April, have been called off because of a dispute with Arab countries over what to call the Gulf.

The games federation in Saudi Arabia said the Iranian organisers had failed to address its concerns, particularly about the planned logo and medals.

These bear the words "Persian Gulf", but Arab countries, who call it the Arabian Gulf, reject the term.

The games had been postponed in October in the hope of striking a deal.

Ukip calls for ban on Muslim veil

Muslim women should be banned from covering their faces, Nigel Farage of the UK Independence Party has said.

Mr Farage, an MEP and UKIP’s former leader, said wearing a veil had become a symbol of cultural divisions in Britain. He denied the call was motivated by prejudice.

...

"It is a symbol of something that is used to oppress women, it is a symbol of an increasingly divided Britain, and the real worry – and it isn't just about what people wear – is we are heading towards a situation where many of our cities are ghettoised and there is even talk of Sharia law becoming part of British culture."
