Are Muslims Backwards?

Salaam

I was listening to a really interesting lecture on this topic.

Muslims are described as being the “best nation”. But would it be correct to say that we live up to this?

1,000 years ago Muslims were in the forefront in every field of knowledge. The students from the West came to Muslim Spain, Sicily, Cairo, and Baghdad to study the sciences.

The Muslims of today are nothing like our intellectual pious predecessors.

In the Mosques people leave free literature. How many of people pick them and read them?

Ramadan Resolutions

Salaam

You know the way some people make “New Year” resolutions….with only 3 weeks left till Ramadan starts-why don’t we all make a list of our “Ramadan resolutions”?

What are we going to try and accomplish this year? Read more Qur’an? Attend the Mosque regularly? Control our temper? Eat less at Iftar time? Read our Tahajid?

Are we going to make sure that we don’t miss our Sehri? Are we going to try to read our Tarawih daily?

Or are we like many (weak) people who make resolutions we will break them five fasts down the line?

A Friend In Need Is A Friend Indeed

Salaam

Yep, a friend in need is a friend indeed.

It’s so easy to be friendly, available, reliable, on a level, supportive and helpful when things are all good….its easy to be a “good friend” when there is no stress or problems in your mate’s life…

However, the real test of friendship takes place when your friend needs you…when he/she is undergoing some stress or difficulties in their life…and whether you’re there for them or not determines whether or not you’re a “true friend” and a good Muslim.

Friendships are put to the test this way.

What’s So Great About Your Mum?

Salaam

This thread will be a sort of tribute to mothers…an appreciation thread.

Mothers do SO much….one only realises their value when they go away for a bit and the house seems so unbelievably empty.

Everyone thinks that their mum is the best mum in the world; use this thread to explain why YOU think your mum is so fantastic…..(this is NOT a competition).

Why do I think my mum is so fantastic?

I Aint Marrying No Paki

Salaam

There’s always been a massive stigma attached to marriages from “back home”.

I’m speaking from a girl’s point of view (guys may feel free to differ). I have a massive stigma attached to this type of marriage too…this is cos of personal experience.

My mum was brought up in this country and my dad was from “back home”. Their marriage isn’t exactly what I’d describe a “happy marriage”. I feel that the only reason why they have remained married for 22 years is cos mum is extremely tolerant by nature…she can take a LOT of crap.

Is A Woman’s Place In The Home?

Salaam

For the last couple of months I’ve been actively seeking work…. after being rejected left right and centre…I was advised to contact this agency that gets you into schools, now after they check my references out I should start working in a matter of weeks… Finally-Alhumdullilah!!

Why do I want to work?

Since I was a little girl I’ve wanted to teach, I used to play “school/school” with my brother and sisters and I was always the teacher….whenever I have spare time I work voluntary in different types of schools.

Free Mixing

Salaam

Yeh, I know I started this thread before but I want to start it again, because once again this “free mixing” issue has become a bit cloudy.

What on Earth is “free-mixing”?

When I go to Uni and when need be talk to guys/my lecturers/ the Admin etc Am I free mixing?

When go to town and do shopping for mum-Am I free mixing…cos my town centre is not gender segregated.

When I take my baby sister to the doctor/dentist- Am I “free mixing”?

When I’m sitting on the bus or train…Am I free mixing?

When I go to my Mosque and chat to the Imam’s …Am I free mixing?

The Do’s And Don’ts Of Dawah

Salaam

Some of us I’m sure must have this desire to propagate Islam, to spread the message and to educate those who may be misguided…

So, what do you guys think is the most effective way to convey Islam? Is it via speeches? Study circles? Radio? Involvement in the media? Islamic lit/magazines? Websites?

Or is it better to set up stalls/handout leaflets outside Mosques? OR is door to door dawah the best way to convey the message?

The Blessed Month Of Shabaan

Salaam

The Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) said “Between Rajab and Ramdan is the sacred month of Shabaan, people are unmindful about it, yet the deeds of man are to be presented to Allah (swt)”

He Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) also said “Shabaan enjoys the superiority over the month as I have superiority over the Prophets”.

The Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) said “Rajab is the month of Allah, Shabaan is my month and Ramadan is the month of my ummah, Shabaan removes the sins of man and Ramadan purifies him completely”.
