Muslims who wish to live under a system of sharia law should leave Britain, the chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality suggested yesterday.

Speaking in the wake of demonstrations against Danish cartoons depicting the prophet Muhammad, Sir Trevor Phillips said those living in the UK had to accept that British values include a commitment to freedom of speech, even if that means offending people.

"What some minorities have to accept is that there are certain central things we all agree about, which are about the way we treat

Obsession With Designer Garms

Salaam

What is it with designer labels? What’s wrong with wearing something that doesn’t have a designer label on it?

How fussy are you regarding the brand of your clothes/shoes/make up?

When I was about 14 I needed some trainers so I kicked up a fuss for some expensive Nike trainers.

Why? Cos in school the cool kids wore Nike/Reebok or addidas and those who didn’t were laughed at…

Mobile phones had just came out when I was in high school…I always felt left out cos I never had one straight away.

What’s the Best Way To Thank Allah?

Salaam

Many of us (esp me) spend months with Allah (swt) on the prayer mat when they want a need fulfilled.

But when one gets what they want do they spend half that much time thanking Allah (swt) for that blessing?

The story that’s often narrated in the Sufism thread touches my heart because….

Fined £80 For Saying FA

A teenager was hit with an £80 fine for using the F-word while talking to his friend.

Kurt Walker was asked by his companion what he was up to and replied: 'F*** all, mate.'

But the private conversation was overheard by a police officer, who promptly handed a him a fixed penalty notice.

If we were to fine everyone £80 for using that word we could solve the national debt

However, the 18-year-old is refusing to pay the fine – the same punishment as that dished out for being drunk and disorderly, stealing goods worth up to £200 or causing £500 damage.

Superwomen-Necessity or Choice?

Salaam

I was reading an article the other day which basically was arguing that women are expected to become “superwomen”-they must do it all or lose it all.

They become “supermums” and are “burned out” a few years later. And it was basically arguing that career-orientated women lead stressful lives and that too many of us have fallen prey to the feminist mystique....and that women should only focus on family and home and nothing else.

Islamically, it is the father/husbands job to financially provide for his family.

Remember Me And I’ll Remember You

Salaam

Allah (swt) has said “Verily in the remembrance of Allah (swt) do hearts peace”.

Dhikr means remembrance….we are told to remember Allah (swt) sitting down, lying down, walking or standing…

Those who enter paradise will not be sorry for anything they did in this life, except the moments they spent without the remembrance of Allah (swt).

The difference between the one who does Dhikr and the one who doesn’t is like the difference between the living and the dead.

Is Your Home Like A Hotel?

Have family meals gone out of fashion?

As the government plans a national tour to promote its Respect Agenda, published last month, the BBC News website examines the importance of the family meal for fostering respect.

The days of families sitting down together every evening for a meal are often said to be long gone and their demise is sometimes seen as symptomatic of the breakdown in family life.

Can it also have led to a decline in respect between generations?

At Least My Heart Is Clean…

Salaam

Many people boast about their heart being clean.

To me, this is a license to continue with wrong doing. You know, “so I may not cover, or pray, but God knows that my heart is clean”.

One can’t help but smile at such statements.

Firstly, if ones heart was REALLY clean, then they wouldn’t indulge in wrong doings. After all, ones pure, clean heart would be manifested through their actions.

Secondly, Allah (swt) states in the holy Qur’an that we should NOT ascribe purity to ourselves.

Islam: A Daily Struggle?

Salaam

A few friends of mine are new converts….they find Islam hard. Of course, putting on the Hijaab, learning/reading salaah, learning Arabic and fasting for the first time will be SO difficult for one who has never done it before.

It’s important of course, that they do everything on their own pace.

Most of us here were born into Muslims families….however, is Islam a daily struggle for us in our life?

According to a lecture I heard the other day, it should be.

Nothing of value can ever be easy.

Defending A Muslim No Matter What

Salaam

The Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) said

" A Muslim should help his brother, whether he is the oppressor or the oppressed." The Companions said "Ya Rasoolullah, we understand that we should help the brother when he's oppressed, but how do we help him when he is doing the oppression?" To which the Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) replied “help guide him back to Islam and justice”

In other words, be there for a Muslim no matter what…don’t kick him when he’s down.
