Uni life passes alot quickly and alot happily depending on the company you keep. As yashmaki said beware of the dodgy people evan in religious societies aka Wack-Jobs.
Its good if you find a good group of friends within the first week to be around, im sure you'll find the time passes very quickly. You may not be looking forward to it now but when the time comes to leave you prob wont want to.
Best of luck

Personally I m gonna be in sheffield for 5 years but alhamdulillah Im not too worried about it. Im going there to get an education not to make friends with scantily clad women or drunks sprawled on kerbs.
At school our careers advisers always banged on about personal skills and being involved in loads of societies and things to make yourself stand out for the uni and later for employers. Alhamdulillah with my degree I dont need to do any society or club things so will just stick with my lessons and get out of that devils pit.
University is a huge fitnah.

I said to my parents send me to Darul Uloom Karachi but they just wont allow it, they want me to have a degree, trim my beard, eat halwa(!) but alhamdulillah I pray ALLAH protects me. InshaALLAH I wont send my kids to uni either, boys or girls unless its segregated and thats not gonna happen in this country.

There is quite a bit of reading involved.
The lecturers touch on the certain areas. Hard to get hundreds of years of history into a few hours.
My waste of the free time led to me scraping through with a 2/1 in 2nd year. This year I will really get my head into the books God willing.
The lecturers are very clever people. When not lecturing they're writing books and articles, attending seminars and speaking at conferences. The lecturers I have are particularly good at what they do.

why don't you go to the darul uloom up in bury or kidderminster if it's a matter of distance?
its not a matter of distance. My respected parents are not exactly religious folk, they want me to have a degree and a good shop and a sharp suit and a fast car.
InshaALLAH I have made intention to go darul uloom AFTER finishing uni and setting my parents up financially. Although bury and kidderminster are good I know for a fact that there is a heaven-earth difference between these uk madaris and pakistan/india ones; even I have friends who have experienced both and pakistan ones are totally different.
Now that musharraf has decided to not allow ''foreign'' students into madaris it looks like inshaALLAH i will go deoband, make dua that ALLAH accepts me. In the meantime I study in birmingham and ustadji said I can do alim course after uni; my teachers are most favourable to me.
Perhaps will become alim fazil here and then pursue further studies abroad but for a good few years have to do uni and work at the moment. May ALLAH make things easy upon me.

plus the advantage of doing alim course by my current ustaad is that if there are only 5 people doing it in the entire madrassah, you kinda get excellent teaching.
ppl go on abt private schools where they pay thousands of pounds fees and only get one teacher to about 25 pupils. here i pay 15 a week and practically one to one tuition! subhanALLAH easy to learn lessons this way and plus understand more stuff quicker. make dua that i finish uni quick time and can continue with my studies at madrassah.

yes thats true. I have had opportunity to compare bury/kidminsiter with korangi and binor town in pak and there is a HUGE difference even between the way the students behave.
So tranquil and quiet, they leave their lessons at namaz time and walk quietly to the masjid and fill up front rows, little chatter and no gaps. It was amazing, and over here even though the madaris are good the students dont behave like that. Start talking given half a chance and dont be as dedicated to studies as I seen in pak. I think deoband and lucknow are even more amazing, inshaALLAH will visit india sometime soon.
