my m8te asked me whether prawn is permissable 2 eat does anyone here know?
i believe it aint coz it aint a fish, not sure...
prawn is, im sure it is....

The answer is that there is a difference of opinion, even in the hanafi madhab there is a difference of opinion. Hence the best option is to follow the ruling according to taqwa and abstain from eating prawn. I personally dont eat it at all but I think Hadrat Thanwi rahimauhullah was of opinion that it is jaaiz.
So best option is not too eat it.

but from what i know, prawns are ok - not really heard of em not bien halal!

According to the three Madhaahib, viz. Shaaf'ee, Maaliki and Hanbali, the prawn is permissible, irrespective of it being a fish or not. However, according to the Hanafi Madhab, prawn is not permissible as it is not a fish
so basically u follow ur imam right

as Muhtarama pointed out i said I think. Secondly Hadrat Thanwi made purdah from this world years ago, we dont believe that we get lessons from deceased scholars, perhaps u do. So Hadrat Thanwi isnt my teacher nor is he ''MY'' scholar.
Alhamdulillah I dont see this as a major issue, so no need for me to be bothered abt wht u say. And as Muhtarama pointed out, Mufti Sahib from SA has said it is not halal in our hanafi madhab, Hadrat Thanwi IF he said what I think he said, is entiteled to his view. This is a non issue

Lol. No because dreams do not hold shari proof. Even a true dream cannot be used as evidence.
So even if a person were to see Holy Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam and HE salallahu alayhi wa sallam told them to do something that would not be a shari' proof.

There would be no need for proof as a person who sees the Holy Prophet (Saw) will see the Holy Prophet
and what he hears will be the truth, others (as in ppl) may not accept it as its beyond their thinkin etc, but fact is the person who dreams of the Holy Prophet 
will know that no proof is required.
no1 doubts that if he has seen then he has indeed seen but that is not a valid proof by any scholar, unless perhaps some deviants.
There have been instances where a person sees Holy Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam saying to another drink alcohol. The ulama explain that the person did indeed see Holy Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam but he saw through his own perspective so to speak, they say in reality Holy Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam would have been saying dont drink but the person saw throught corruptnes of his heart etc.
Basically in shariah dreams hold no standing, no1 can say I saw this dream so I must do this, or am allowed this act which shariah forbids etc.

What Naj posted was basically right.
According to Hanafi Fiqh if a sea animal cannot survive outside water, it is not halaal for consumption.
According to the others any sea animals are halaal. Both viewpoints use the same hadith as validation. Now that is what I call a difference of opinion without resorting to insults.

there is I THINK a difference of opinion even amongst ahnaaf, but my answer was specific to prawns, regarding crab and lobster etc I think the issue is more clear. I recommend you consult ulama in this regard.

whats wrng with flavoured crisps such as barbercue, chicken anyother, i believe they orite 2 eat as long it sez suitable for vegetarians at back, not that i eat em but for those who do.

we had assorted flavours in jamia but which had suitable for veg at back, there were a time havent checked recently when walkers cheese an onion had animal rennet in it and werent suitable for veg dunno bout now,
as for ready salted its the worse flavour ever....pickled onion is de best
I've always heard that any sea dwelling creature would be halal. Not that i would eat squid or shark but fish in general.
I've had prawn all my life... nothing wrong with them. Im pretty sure they cant survive out of water for long as they breathe thru their gills which only work under water.
Walkers Cheese & Onion flav crisps are NOW 'Suitable for Veg' ive checked. Altho bbq beef flav crisps and so on my be 'Suitable for Veg' i would eat them... smells enuff to put me off.

If prawn can only breathe in water, they are halaal (as if you remove them then they would die...)
The Hanafi ruling is that if a sea dwelling creature cannot live outside water it is halaal.
Otherwise it is not defo haraam, but must match the criteria for land enimals.

Its not just that i think i read somewhere that they have to be of herbivore nature inorder for them to be fit for consumption by humans. Meaning we cant eat Carnivorious animals.
