DO YOU HAVE FAITH IN THE POLICE?

SALAAM

i'm sure I started this topic previously but cant seem to find it:-)

anyway...for the future revival issue we are asking Muslims across the UK:
Do you have faith in the Police?

Please answer in a few lines...and let me know if you want me to include your comment in teh magazineand/or website....

wasalaam

Unlike America, I think our police are very good. Today they have a lot of Muslim officers in the force. Sometimes they cock things up as in Forest Gate crashing down doors and shooting innocent brothers. On the whole I think British police is honest and nice police force. We are lucky we dont live in US. Brothers and sisters in America are complaining mroe and more about their police force and FBI who have no respect for human rights after 9/11. Muslims have become a fair game for them over there in America. But in Britain things are more civilized and that is why I still like the police. I trust them that they they are doing a good job. When I go on Ashura jalooses to do matam, there are many police officers who protect the jaloos of Imam Hussain. I believes God blesses British police for looking after the believers. As long as Imam Ali likes you, I also will like you.

Ayatollah rightly named America as "Great Satan".

Muslims commit crimes in the United States, when they do the police are there to arrest them. They don't get off, as you would like them to, merely because they are muslims. This isn't special rules for special people.

I reckon the number of asian coppers in britain should be limited to only a few within each area........because I believe that when there are too many asians within an industry, much corruption and fraud often occurs, and these two qualities can be very very detrimental to a police force.....

I speak from experience..........as well as look at pakistan and india....!!!!!

I still do not see how this topic relates to the US.

Malik; are you in the US?

That would also probably happen in the US.

I don't know if that's a valid opinion but your idea wouldn't be well-received.

Same with blacks.

Get an army of trained seals to be the police. They would be impartial and look hilarious in a police uniform.

corruption will happen if there is not adequate due process. Cannot blame it on a community or a subset of one.

Saying that, I do understand the sentiment.

I think it has something to do with resisting the British during occupation over half a century ago - soem people find it hard to leave it be.

Where would one feel safer, even after having commited a crime..England or Pakistan..........

I would say britain for sure in this day and age.......because of justice !!! Some people literally pay their way out of a murder situation in pakistan depending on rich they are (and i don't mean paying the family, I am on about paying cops !!)........is that fair! is that islamic!

Which post, lol? You have to summarise your reply.

I think it's really brave you wanting to be a police officer, not just anyone can do it.

Any post, I don't mind. I can't be bothered to summarise all that, take the offer or leave it :P.

Yeah I'm only saying it but I may not make it. There are many reasons for me wanting to be a police officer:
1 - good salary
2 - good pension
3 - respect
4 - power
5 - sense of danger
6 - don't know what you're gonna do next
7 - rush of adreneline
8 - free travel in london Biggrin
One thing I'm gonna hate though; loads of paperwork.

I believe its ok for men to join the police force, but not for ladies. Women shouldn't do it. Police don't let the Muslim ladies wear the hijab. As long as women can wear a hijab, then they can join the police. I think we should tell the home sec to change the policy to let our girls wear honrable dress so that they can become police officers like in Iran.

Ayatollah rightly named America as "Great Satan".

The police do permit the hijab and it is an optional part of the uniform.

That is a good news. I didn't know that. Thanks honey.

I have seen two PCSO's wearing the normal uniform in addition with the headscarf.

When you say hijab do you mean the whole outfit or just the headscarf?

Hijab is not an outfit?

I think you mean Jilbab.

Dunno if its diff down south but here in glasgow my mates hubby is a copper and his wage is RUBBISH! I'll ask my bro what he earns since hes training to be a copper and hes moved out of glasgow...

Being a copper is dangerous!

The police officers in London (only) get paid more compared to the other police forces in the UK.

Quote:
From the 1st September 2006 on joining the pay is £21,009 and on completion of initial training (end of 31 weeks) it rises to £23,454. For the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) London Weighting is £2,055 and London Allowances is £4,338.

Bearing in mind that the salary increases every year as you serve the force.

That's one of the reasons why I wanna be one.

Personally, I lost all the faith that I had in the equality of the police force a couple of years ago, when I was sitting in my friend's car. We were parked by the side of the road, just chatting to each other, when three unmarked police cars screetched to a halt and plain clothed offices literally dragged my two friends out of the front seats (one of whom was black, the other was Asian). They carried out full-body searches on my friends (presumably for drugs or maybe weapons) and left me (an innocent looking white guy) sitting safely in the back seat. I could have had cocaine, heroin, or even an AK-47 machine gun on me and they never would have known. As we were well-to-do young men, they let my friends go (barely apologising for the inconveniance or even giving an explanation as to why they approached us in the first place), said 'good evening sir' to me and went on their merry way.

When I was younger, I was stopped for 'random searches' a few times, but only ever if I was in a group of friends who were predominately non-white. Another black friend of mine was once stopped rudely and searched while he waited for me outside a POLICE STATION, but as soon as the police officers saw me they immediatly started speaking to him as if he WAS a complete human being.

So, while I havn't been affected by this directly, I have seen first-hand how racial-profiling etc can GREATLY harm a community's relationship with the police force.

Don't just do something! Stand there.

Oh my god.... the cops.

Dont talk to me about the cops... scared of them... nah man... i would never call the cops... not even if my house was being robbed, my house is too nice... they'd never believe i lived there. If they turn up it would be like: "Oh my god he's still here.. {crack me over the head} open and shut case Johnson, i saw this once in my rookie years. A paki broke into a house and hung up pictures of himself and his family... well i cant be a$$d doing all that paperwork.. lets just sprinkle some crack on him and get outta here".

Thank God ive never been pulled over... id start talking crazy if they did. Dont even ask me what id do if they wanted to search me.
This is exactly the reason why I have white friends... coz when the shit goes down... someones gonna have to talk to the police.

I used to own a police radio scanner... before i realised they're illegal... and everytime i had to go out i would check the radio to hear if anythings going down. It would be like: "Calling all cars, calling all cars... be on the look out for a young asian... somewhere in the region of 5ft 5... acting suspiciously"... and i would be like... "NOPE not going out tonight" i gotta get myself an alabi first.

Met deputy Paddick to quit

Vikram Dodd
Thursday April 26, 2007
Guardian Unlimited

Brian Paddick, one of Britain's most controversial police officers, is to leave his job next month, the Guardian has learned.
Mr Paddick, a deputy assistant commissioner with the Metropolitan police, was last year sidelined by his bosses.

He clashed with the Met commissioner, Sir Ian Blair, over the police shooting of an innocent man mistaken for a terrorist at Stockwell tube station in July 2005.

Mr Paddick told the Independent Police Complaints Commission investigation into the commissioner's conduct that officials within Sir Ian's own office feared the wrong man had been killed just hours after the shooting.

Sir Ian has repeatedly said that he and his aides had no inkling until the morning of the next day that the man shot eight times by officers hunting suicide bombers was in fact innocent.
Mr Paddick has been in negotiations with his employers about his departure, and the date has now been set for May 31.

He came to public prominence as the borough commander in Lambeth, south London, where he oversaw a pioneering scheme under which people caught with small amounts of cannabis faced only a warning about their conduct.

This, plus the fact he is openly gay, made Mr Paddick a hate figure for rightwing tabloid newspapers.

erm maybe it passed your notice the metropolitan police have been accused of institutional racism many times it's not a one off there's a major racial problem within the forces has it gone unnoticed to u guys it's been well televised and broadcast on radio i can still remember it very fresh in my mind.

There are many good things about the police force but corruption you can't really totally obliterate it, impossible. Unless you employ robots...many industries are using and are thinking of using robots for tasks humans would otherwise perform. Heard that on news recently. Apparently robots are already used by the army to guard checkpoints?......I think i prefer ppl to robots.

erm hijabi police officers well it doesn't take a genius to know these women will be more open to attacks by maybe juveniles and yobs. The fact that she wears a hijab will harm her when she's on the streets especially with all the hatred against muslims. I don't think it's a well suited job for a muslim woman especially if she believes in the concept of the hijab, she would be putting herself in more danger than her colleagues just coz of her appearance.

Same with sikh men who wear turbans i bet they get a lot of racial abuse. from the public. The public especially those in deprived areas don't take kindly to cops anyways so anything to provoke them in the slightest they'll use it to wage an attack against u i.e dress.

Thing about having faith in the police it depends where you live. Over here in shakepeare land i'm very happy with the police i've never had bad dealings with them. The few times i remember them coming to our assistance they were very prompt and took our complaints seriously and professionally. If I lived in London i'm sure my views would be different, especially living there as a muslim post 9/11 and july bombings, even coppers have prejudices don't they they're human.

Im not saying i dont like the police... im not saying that... im just saying im scared to death of them... nothing wrong with that.

You see its all that police brutality... thats common knowledge NOW... but there was a time when only minorities knew about that. Im not saying they didnt believe us, its just when it came in the news they knew it to be true. English people were like: "Oh my god, honey did you see this? Apparently the police have been beating up Paki's like hotcakes! Its in the main issue!"

But ofcourse how was the world supposed to know... well maybe they should have been a little suspicious... just a little... just a little bit... that every unconsciouse paki the police found ... had crack sprinkled on him? I mean comeon man... seriously who gets knocked out and sprinkles crack on themselves? It would be like: "{SMACK!} aawww.... awww. ... must stay consciouse to ... sprinkle crack... on ... myself... i dont want to leave any mysteries".

Im a paranoid guy... i would be scared to call 999 for a fire or anything... coz they tape those phone calls... ive seen the shows, they tape them and then they play them on TV... thats fcukd up. That shit shud be private.

I have noticed that, most notably the which severely criticised the met, and said that there was "institutional racism".

Quote:
It (the Macpherson Report) made 70 recommendations many aimed specifically at improving police attitudes to racism and stressed the importance of a rapid increase in the numbers of black and Asian police officers.

I live in London and don't have any bad experiences with the police. Obviously there's racism everywhere but the police are doing an almost impossible job, and I rate them for that.

In London, pizza gets to your home before the police.

Without getting into the defintions of the word faith. I can comfortably say I have no faith in the Police.
