The Holy Prophet said “Between Rajab and Ramdan is the sacred month of Shabaan, people are unmindful about it, yet the deeds of man are to be presented to Allah (swt)”
He also said “Shabaan enjoys the superiority over the month as I have superiority over the Prophets”.
The Holy Prophet said “Rajab is the month of Allah, Shabaan is my month and Ramadan is the month of my ummah, Shabaan removes the sins of man and Ramadan purifies him completely”.
The month of Shabaan is most definitely a blessed month; it was during this blessed month that the “Qibla” in Jerusalem was reverted back to the Ka’ba in Makkah……this took place on the 15th Shabaan.
During this month the night of “Laila-tul-Baraat” (the night of forgiveness) falls…this is on the 15th of Shabaan.
It is so important for us to appreciate, respect and value these special months.
Whilst it is true that we can seek forgiveness and pray to Allah (swt) all year round…during these blessed months we are blessed with an increase in the mercy and blessings of Allah (swt)….therefore it only makes sense to take advantage of them, for they are spiritually more important and can greatly increase the chance of our tobah (repentance) being accepted in the Court of Allah (swt).
This is also the month in which we should sort out and prepare our state of mind for Ramadan…..we can do this by increasing our Ibadah (worship) and giving up our bad habits….it also makes sense to start the Qur’an so that we can give ourselves a head start and aim to finish it in Ramadan.
Blessings are initiated in this month which progressively escalate and reach their peak by the end of Ramadan….it makes sense to take advantage of the month of Shabaan which should start mid next week.

laila-tul-baraat meaning same as leylatul qadr
Nah, Laylatul Baraat is completely seperate from Laylatul Qadr.
The first is a very blessed night in the month of Shabaan in which Allah SWT decends to (I think) the lowest heaven and bestows special mercies and forgiveness to the extent that a number of people equal to number of hairs of all the goats of this guy who owned alot of goats are removed from hell. I might have to double check that though. :?
Also on that night the records of what will happen for the comming year are made e.g. who will be born or die etc.
Okay i'm sure you're better familiar with the latter whioch takes place in Ramadhaan.
Gentleness and kindness were never a part of anything except that it made it beautiful, and harshness was never a part of anything except that it made it ugly.
Through cheating, stealing, and lying, one may get required results but finally one becomes
confused....which is the night of power laylatul qadr innit...dis is when allah taalah sets whoz gna die dis year and ppl ask 4 forgivness etc..

Seyedena Ali (RA) has reported that the Holy Prophet said:
‘When the fifteenth night of Shabaan comes, perform nafl prayers and fast that day, for as soon as the sun sets that evening Allah's illumination and Mercy descend on to the skies and He says, "Is there any servant of Mine who begs Me for pardon and forgiveness, so that I may decide to forgive him? Is there anyone who is desirous of peace and security so that I may grant him peace and safety? Is there anyone who seeks sustenance so that I may grant him sustenance? Allah's Mercy keeps calling His servants all night from sunset to sunrise. [Ibn Majah].
Laylatul Baraat and Laylatul Qadr are two different night.
Wasalaam
Yeah, thats a top CD....I posted the link above. It's a must have for all Qasidah lovers.
two diff nights
dont confuse the two
both very importnat but the one in Ramadan is more important

Hadrat Aisha said: "I never saw the Messenger of Allah fast a complete month except for Ramadan, and I have never seen him fast more in a month than he did in Sha`baan." (Bukhari, Muslim).
The fasts these days are SO long….its a killer for me…I only kept one the other day for Mira’j…and even though I want to I can’t see myself fasting in Shaban (other then the 15th shabaan fast).
For some reason it’s always so much easier to fast in Ramadan.
By the way guys, it is during this month that people used to get closer to one another, amend relationships and forgive others….cos they knew that Allah (swt) does not forgive those who does not forgive others.
So….make up with one another this month, if anyone has any issues with another poster use this month to get rid of bad feelings.
Wasalaam
any1 got issues with me? if so .....step outside
joke, ur all forgiven and hope u all forgiv me (but for the sake of it, cant see anyfin i done...but thats me )
I know Admin dont like me....he saw me lil bro at the mosque and started complainin i bombard the forums and need to get off it
aint happenin
So.....we can fast any day of Shabaan? when does it last till? i might keep a few Inshallah

Shabaan started today (or yesterday?)
It lasts a month. We can fast any day, its better though to avoid keeping fasts after the 15th of Shabaan due to obvious reasons.
erm....whys that?

Cos after the 15th of Shabaan there are only 14 more days left till Ramadan starts.
And you don't want to tire yourself out and have difficulties fasting in Ramadan...
I doubt i will keep that much anyway during Shabaan, i just thought there were religious implications for not fasting in the last 15.
Tire? Me? Never!!
Inshallah this Ramadan will be like no other before....cant wait

This is obviously an untrue saying, falsely attributed to the Holy Prophet.
Lets make the matter clear to the binging woman:
We all KNOW that Islam has only 4 holy months.
Yes. Thats four - F. O. U. R. - four as in number 4.
Clear ?
Good.
We dont have MORE THAN four sacred months in Islam !!
And Shaban is NOT one of them.
It can have holy DAYS in it, such as the 15th day. But the WHOLE months is NOT holy !!
God !!!
By the way, the 15th of Shaban is not the night of "FORGIVENESS". It is the night of IMMUNITY. Big difference.
Its like as if God is offering amnesty. Criminals are given a chance to come clean.
Many people are, without knowing it, in a state of opposition to their Lord. They are, in reality, acting like enemies of the Almighty.
This is the night, every year, in which the Creator asks them to lay down their ARMS.
Omrow
Salaam
Ramadan is also not specifically described as being a “holy month”….so would you say that it is an “unholy month”?
Would you say that Ramadan is not a sacred month/special month because the Qur’an does not single it out as an “Holy month”?
Even though Shabaan and Ramadan are not specifically described as being “holy months”.
No one can deny the spiritual superiority months such as Ramadan and Shabaan have over other months.
Wasalaam
what are the 4 holy months Omrow talks about then?
i thought Ramadan would have been one

Dhul-Qi'da, Dhul-Hijjah, Muharram and Rajab are known as being the “holy months”....fighting is forbidden in those months.
Ramadan and Shabaan are not one of the four. But no one can deny their spiritual superiority.

Dhuk-Hijjah - the month of Hajj?
Muharram - know that one
Rajab - significance???
Dhul-Qi'da - never heard of the month

Miraj took place in Rajab.
Dhul Hajj is the month of Hajj.
Muharum is when the Karbala took place.
Not sure what happened in Dhul Qaida... :?
The sacred months are for: Dhul-Qa'dah, Dhul-Hijjah, Muharram which are consecutive and Rajab. These months were accepted as sacred even before Islam and fighting was considered forbidden in these months and this it is established that this was acted upon by the Makkans before Islam.
I am not aware of the sanctity of the months being for the reasons stated above particularly the reference to Miraj, Karbala as these events took place with the coming of Islam or even afte Holy Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam veiled Himself from the world. These months sanctity was established BEFORE islam and according to leader Mufassireen these months were decalred sacred by a number of the Ambiya alayhim us salaam who came before Nabi Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa sallam.
For your reference you may refer to Surah Tawbah(in the fourth ashara of verses) and Surah Baqarah (i think in second para.)
Ya ALLAH Madad.
Haq Chaar Yaar
why did the Prophet fast so much in this month if he didnt consider it special?
Salam
It was done as a preparation for the full 30 days of fasting.
Come on Furbal. Think for yourself !!
You can't expect me to give you everything on a plate (all the time).
Omrow
Salam
No. It would not say that Ramadan is a diabolical month.
It is neither holy nor unholy.
It is just a month in which we are ordered to fast for 30 days.
Four holy months are named. And however much we may, we cannot make Ramadan as one of the four.
Sorry pious lady. Not my rules. God sets the rules.
If it were up to me, I would add Ramadan as a sacred month just so that you can sleep easy. But fortunately I was not given this the task of making things up in the Divine Religion.
Omrow
is that it?
I wonder why people make such a fuss about this month then?
a lady was telling my mum yesterday that "this is the month of halwa-if anyone has the KUFR FILLED NERVE to send u a plate halwa make sure u send it back".
maybe the lady thought that people make halwa and offer it to their idols before they distribute it to the neighbourhood
the ignorance of some people makes me laugh
their extremism is the reason why Islam has a bad name
In the hadith reported by Imam At-Tabarani, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is reported to have said: “Truly, there are nafahat (blessed seasons or days) in which your Lord vouchsafes plentiful mercy. So, make sure that you make the best use of such seasons!” A true believer should purify himself from the fleshly inclinations and the earthly desires and make his aspirations so high and beseech Allah for mercy in such blessed seasons which witness the abundant mercy of Allah. One point here to be stressed is that a true Muslim should consider his whole life a long-term season of obedience so as to show gratitude to the everlasting blessing of Allah.
Responding to the question, Dr. Muzzamil Siddiqi, former President of the Islamic Society of North America, states the following:
The month of Sha`ban is the eighth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The fifteenth night of this month is known as laylatul-bara’ah (The Night of Innocence) or laylat un-nisfe min Sha`ban (the Middle Night of Sha`ban) in the Arab world. In India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Afghanistan, etc., it is known as shab-e-barat. Some people believe that in Surat Ad-Dukhan (44:3-4) there is a reference to this night as Allah says, (We sent it (the Qur’an) down during a blessed night. We are truly Warners. In that night is made distinct every affair of wisdom.) But the night referred to here cannot be a Sha`ban night because it is said here clearly that the Qur’an was revealed in this night. We know from the Surat Al-Qadr (97) that the Qur’an was revealed in the Night of Qadr and we also know from the Qur’an (Al-Baqarah 2:185) that the Qur’an was revealed in the month of Ramadan. So it is obvious that the night of the revelation of the Qur’an was in Ramadan, not Sha`ban, and that it was laylat ul-qadr (The Night of Power) not shab-e-barat.
Some people also say that in the 2nd year of Hijrah, the direction of the Qiblah was changed from Jerusalem to the Ka`bah in Makkah on the 15th day of Sha`ban. This report is also not confirmed by authentic hadiths. According to most of the exegetes, the Qur’an has not mentioned anything about the Sha`ban night.
There are some hadiths that speak about the Middle of Sha`ban and its night. However, the scholars of hadith say that most of the hadiths concerning this night are not authentic. They are weak (da`if) according to the criteria of the narrators and scholars of hadith. Imam Al-Mundhiri (died in 656 A.H.) in his famous book At-Targhib wat-Tarhib (vol. 2, pp. 116-120) reported fourteen hadiths on the subject of this night. The following points can be summarized from those hadiths:
1. The month of Sha`ban is a great month.
2. In this month Allah takes the account of His creation.
3. Because this month occurs between two other important months, viz. Rajab and Ramadan, many people do not pay enough attention to it.
4. The Prophet (peace be upon him) loved to fast during this month. He used to fast most of the month of Sha`ban.
5. After sunset on the night of Middle of Sha`ban, Allah in His great mercy and kindness turns towards His creation and asks, "Is there anyone who would seek My forgiveness and I forgive him (or her)? Is there anyone who is in need to ask Me and I provide for his (or her) needs. Is there anyone who is in pain and seeks My help and I help him (or her)? Is there…? Is there…?” until the time of Dawn."
6. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is said to have recommended prayers during this night and fasting during the following day.
7. It reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to visit the Muslim cemetery on this evening and he used to pray for the deceased Muslims.

The Night of Mid-Sha`ban
By: Suheil Laher
Praise be to Allah, and blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah.
[b]1. Virtues of the 15th Night[/b]
Sha`ban in the eighth month of the Islamic calendar. There are numerous ahadith narrated about the 15th night of Sha`ban, indicating that it has a certain distinction over ordinary nights. While some of these narrations are undeniably weak, there are others which have been graded as reliable by some hadith experts. Among the most authentic of these are the following two:
1. Hafiz Ibn Hibban recorded in his "Sahih," [vol XII, p. 481; #5665] :
From Makhul, from Malik ibn Yukhamir, from Mu`adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet, (may Allah bless him and his Household and grant them peace), he said,
"Allah looks at His creation in the night of mid-Sha`ban; He forgives all His creation except for a mushrik (polytheist) or a mushahin (one who has illegitimate hatred or enmity of others)."
As is evident, this hadith was regarded as reliable by Ibn Hibban, who was a hadith expert, and a group of later hadith scholars have also judged it as as hasan li-ghayrihi (good, through the support of other such narrations).
Some other versions mention other categories of sinners as not being forgiven on that night: those who commit zina (fornication or adultery) or murder.
2. It is narrated that Ummul-Mu'mineen `A'ishah awoke one night to find the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his Household) missing, and so she went out to look for him. She found him in the Baqee` cemetery, with his head raised to the Heavens [it is recommended in general to visit cemeteries for the purpose of reminding ourselves of death, and to ask Allah to forgive the deceased Muslims]. After helping to further reassure her, it is reported that he said, "Surely Allah, the Possessor of Blessings, the Exalted, descends to the lowest heaven [with a meaning appropriate to Allah's majesty; not to be likened to the descending of finite, spatial, created things] on the night of mid-Sha`ban, and forgives more [people] than the the hairs on the sheep of [the tribe of] Kalb."
[Narrated by Tirmidhi, who points out that its chain of narration is discontiguous, although we may note that such discontiguity is not detrimental to authenticity according to some scholars. Also narrated by Ahmad, Ibn Majah and others. Ibn Rajab describes this narration as one of the best on the subject.]
It may also be noted that according to `Ikrimah (one of the students of Ibn `Abbas), the 15th of Sha`ban is the night on which "is made distinct every precise matter," [Qur'an, 44:4] i.e. the night on which the destiny for the coming year is written. However, the majority of exegetes have disagreed with him, maintaining that this occurs on Laylatul-Qadr, as suggested by Surah al-Qadr. [see for example: Tafsir al-Qurtubi, (16/117-119); also Lata'if al-Ma`arif by Ibn Rajab, p. 204]
[b]
2. General Conduct[/b]
As this night approaches, we should examine ourselves and try to rid ourselves of any traces of (associating partners with Allah in deeds, words or belief), and also make sure that we are avoiding the other sins mentioned as hindering forgiveness: illegitimate hatred, zina and murder. Shirk, murder and zina are the most terrible sins, as indicated by the following hadith:
Ibn Mas`ud said that he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his Household), "Which sin is greatest?" He said,
- "That you associate a partner with Allah, although He has created you."
- "Then which?"
- "That you kill your child out of fear it will share your food."
- "Then which?"
- "That you commit adultery with your neighbor's wife."
Then he recited the verse of the Qur'an meaning, "And [the elievers are] those who do not call upon any other god beside Allah, nor unrightfully kill the soul which Allah has prohibited, not commit zina..." [Qur'an, 25:68]
[Narrated by Bukhari, Muslim and others]
And regarding rancor, another authentic hadith tells us,
"Deeds are presented [to Allah] every monday and thursday, whereupon Allah, the Mighty te Majestic, forgives on that day every person who does not associate any [partner] with Allah, except someone who has rancor between himself and his brother, [for whom] Allah then says [to the angels], 'Leave these two until they reconcile." [Narrated by Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi]
Let us give up rancor we may have toward any Muslim - living or dead.
[b]3. Extra Worship[/b]
Hafiz Ibn Taymiyyah mentions in his "Fatawa" that scholars have differed about this night; some of the salaf used to stay up on it, and the night has virtue. It was actually some of prominent scholars of the Tabi`een (the second generation from the Prophet) in Syria, among them MakHool, who started the practice of performing optional prayer (tahajjud/qiyam) specifically during this night. On the basis of the ahadith mentioned above, fortified by more explicit but weaker ahadith, and by the practice of these Tabi`een, it is recommended, according a group of scholars, to perform optional worship on this night.
Hafiz Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali says,
"So, it is appropriate for the believer to free himself [from worldly pursuits] on that night, [and apply himself] to the remembrance of Allah, making du`a to Him to forgive sins, conceal faults, and alleviate hardships, and [it is appropriate] to precede this with repentance (tawbah) for Allah forgives on this night those who repent."
[Ibn Rajab, Lata'if al-Ma`arif, p. 201. He earlier concludes, on p. 200, that the verdict of recommended is that of Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal's school. Similarly, the Hanafis consider it recommended, as stated in Maraqi al-Falah (p. 154) and Hashiyat Ibn `Abidin (Shami) (2/469).]
It may be noted, however, that other scholars are of the view that there is no special significance in performing optional worship on this night (although it is permissible, as on any ordinary night of the year), since they viewed all ahadith on the subject as weak, and considered that the practice of a group of Tabi`een does not by itself make it recommended. [Ibn Rajab [op. cit.] cites that the Malikis consider it a bid`ah, and al-Ramli's Nihayat al-Muhtaj (2/124) expresses the same view for the Shafi`i school.]
Whichever of the two views we choose to follow, we should tolerate both, since there exists scholarly disagreement.
It may also be noted that there is essential unanimity that there is no specific form of worship exclusive to this night, and so those who wish to offer `ibadah in it may perform the usual form of tahajjud (qiyam) prayers, preferably 8 rak`ah, and/or other worships such as recitation of Qur'an or remembrance of Allah. It is much preferred to offer such worship individually and privately; indeed most scholars consider it a bid`ah (reprehensible innovation in religion) to gather to offer such supererogatory worship in congregation. [see for example: Lata'if al-Ma`arif, p. 200; Maraqi al-Falah, p. 154 and Radd al-Muhtar, (2/469)] There is also unanimity on the baselessness of the hadith describing a special form of salah for this night - a salah comprising 100 rak`ah in each of which one recites Surat al-Ikhlas 10 times. [See : al-Masnoo` fi Ma`rifat al-Hadith al-MawDoo`, by Mulla `Ali al-Qari, pp. 259-260; Also al-Majmoo` SharH al-muhadh-dhab, by Imam al-Nawawi, (3/549)]
[b]4. Fasting on the 15th Day[/b]
There is no specific order to fast on the 15th day of Sha`ban. The hadith narrated by Tirmidhi,
"When it is the night of the middle of Sha'ban observe the prayer during the night and observe the fast during the day," is severely weak, and therefore cannot be acted upon. However, if one wishes, he may fast on the 15th of Sha`ban, on the basis that it is recommended to fast the middle days of every month, and it is also recommended to fast during Sha`ban in general.
Usama ibn Zayd said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have not seen you fast in any of the months as [much] as you fast in Sha`ban!" He said, "That is a month which people are neglectful of, between Rajab and Ramadan, and it is a month in which deeds are lifted up to the Lord of the Worlds, and I like for my deeds to be lifted up while I am fasting." [Narrated by Nasa'i and Ahmad]
"Fasting three days from every month is like fasting perpetually." [Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim]
"When you fast three days from a month, then fast thirteen, fourteen and fifteen." [Narrated by Ahmad, Tirmidhi (who graded it hasan), Nasa'i and Ibn Majah]
It may also be noted that according to the Shafi`i school, it is disapproved to fast after the fifteenth of Sha`ban until Ramadan. There is also general agreement that one should not start the obligatory fasting of Ramadan early, in the last few days of Sha`ban (before the new moon for Ramadan has been sighted), because it is false precaution.
And Allah, the Flawless, knows best.
