In the name of Allah the most beneficent, the most merciful.
Assalamu alaikum 
The legacy of Islam starts from Allah (SWT), the first of mankind though to carry on this legacy was Aadam (as). Aadam (as) was the first messenger of Allah (SWT) and his message was Islam. His duty was to spread Islam as it was passed down to him through revelation from Allah (SWT).
This way the message of Islam was spread to the rest of mankind, anyone who accepted the message in turn would also take on the responsibility of spreading Islam and is known as a muslim (one who submits his will to Allah).
The revelations from Allah could only be passed on to Prophets (messengers of Allah) and so it was through many, many generations. All the prophets (as) struggled and strived to profess this message to their generations, that was their duty and they were specifically chosen for it. some prophets (as) convinced but a handful of people and others convinced nations.
All the prophets and their companions carried on the legacy of Islam, right unto the last of the messengers, the seal of the prophets Muhammad (saw). With the last messenger Allah (SWT) through revelation had completed His message to mankind and there is to be no more revelation to come after it.
Still though, the legacy did not end there. It was the duty of Muhammad 
to keep this message strong and to spread to the entire world until it became dominant. After the demise of the last messenger Muhammad (SAW) the legacy was passed on to the Sahabah RA (companions of the prophet (SAW) )
They (the sahabah) took this legacy and spread it to the four corners of the world until it was dominant. Generation after generation muslims carried this legacy on until today.
Now my brothers and sisters we are the ones who have taken on this legacy of Islam...
The weight is now on our shoulders, let's not let our generation be known as the generation where the legacy was finished. I'd rather our generation be known as the generation who revived the legacy. All is in Allah SWT's command but it is through our efforts that this legacy will regain its strength.
All good that i have said is from Allah, any mistakes that have been made are through faults of my own. May Allah guide us all and use us to revive the ummah. Ameen

What Legacy?...what have the previous generations left behind for us exactly?
The only thing left of the legacy that i can see is that men grow beards, wear a thobe, go to the masjid and go to the masjid and the women cover their hair, wear an abayah and pray at home...oh and they recite the Qur'an and say this is haram and this is halal... <<-- is this the legacy you speak of? (ok i am exaggerating but insha Allah you get my point)
So i was thinking to start a series of blogs... (yeah me, Foysol...yeah the lazy guy who cba to do anything)
basically i wanted to start a series called 'The legacy of Islam' or 'The legends of Islam'. My plan is to, once a week write briefly about the great women and men in Islam and then to derive from it examples WE can take into our life and hopefully implement.
so what do you guys think?
P.S. My lil sis helped me with this blog and insha Allah she will be heavily involved with the series of blogs to come. we came up with series together and she will be researching the life of a particular muslim/ muslimah and writing down key points which she feels will be important and that we could take as examples. it's her H/W for the week

+1. By the time I finish reading a blog, theres so many things I wanna say, but by the time I click reply...gone! :/ and I think ur fine with keeping it as the Legacy rather than Legend

Cool but i find reading a book based on one person much more interesting and detailed. Lets you understand them better and plus some can really relate to certain people more than others. We get to them in times of strength and weakness, in spiritual worship and practical dawah.

i know. i started reading this book like you read a normal book but i didnt feel it..its just too fast.. its just a referene book. but if you're going to do sahaba a week then i'd advice this book.
