Marriage v Cohabitting

ok let me use another example more close to home. Why is my aunties dad not locked up for bigmy then? He lives in the UK married to 2 women. His first wife under both English and Islamic his second only under Islamic law.

I have plenty of friends with 2 or more wives, but they don't go around telling the authorities about it.

You know breaking the law and being punished for it are different things.
Prostituition is illegal, but the police don't really enforce it.

Too much paperwork. Plus they dont really care.

Actually, prostitution in the UK is NOT illegal. However things such as kerb crawling is.

Also prostitution in Turkey is NOT illegal.

my comment was about coppers. I for one do not care whether prostitution is legal or illegal.

I myself care whether prostitution is legal or not, coz this affects non-Muslims AND Muslims.

Regarding your comment. You gave reasons why the police don't enforce the law. The reason is because prostitution is not illegal.... that's why it's not being enforced.

No its coz they cant be bothered to do their jobs.

Other than what they currently do, such as kerb crawling, child prostitution, ect.

But there are women who solicit on the streets. The coppers dont do Jack.

e.g. near Piccadilly train station in Manchester there is a brothel. You see a lot of prostitutes soliciting just under the bridge near the station.

Where are the coppers? Everbody knows there is a brothel there (even the coppers).

They turn a blind eye coz it means more paperwork.

They like to use what they call 'discretion'. Even if an individual police officer wanted to close a brothel down, they can't just go into one alone and close them down, it requires the permission of a senior police officer and also a group of them have to raid it.

Well let's ask Yaqub. Obviously telling a Westerner that you can't cohabit isn't exactly easy. So how did you, you know, "get over" it?

Thats one reason the government is not doing a lot to stop prostitution.

Give it a couple of years and brothels will probs have to register to pay tax coz they are technically running a business.

Marriage is a religious act.

Why would someone who does not believe in religion marry? what difference would that person see from cohabiting? except for the loss of money?

Pushing marriage to people who do not believe in religion is IMO the wrong thing to do.

Marriage has changed people dont see it as religious but the ultimate binding of man and woman in a ceremony.

OK so what should we say to those who think marriage is back wards and old fashioned?

My opinion is opposite to yours. Marriage is also a contract that binds man and wife and lists their rights. If the seeking of companionship with the opposite sex is a part of our nature, then marriage is the refining and perfecting element to that aspect of our nature.

And Dawud, I know this sucks, but that might be good enough for a Muslim but not for a non-Muslim.

Which is absolutely fine for those who believe in God. Unfortunately in the UK that is a diminishing number.
