Eid Party Cancelled due to Racism

I recently tried to organise an Eid Party at college as many Asian students complained that every year we have a Christmas party but we never do anything for Eid

The senior members of the college said the party was a good idea as it would be open to everyone and it would encourage others to experience a different culture

however, the student council (all white) and our student liason officer cancelled the party for reasons such as:

Asians cause fights and riots (there is alcohol at the xmas party yet this isnt a problem 4 them, y r asians ne different?)

outsiders will try to gatecr

It is expected that Hadrat will arrive after the second taraweeh jama'ah which commences at 9:30. All brothers are advise to attend and bring others also.

Ladies are advised to tune in on transmitters and hear the heart changing naseeha of Hadrat Kashmiri.

Did anyone watch this on BBC2 just now?

It was very interesting. It very clearly divorces suicide bombing from any religion, unlike other documentaries about the subject.

An amalgamation of topics.

First a suicide bomb in Israel reportedly as a reply to an attack by Israeli soldiers.

President of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sates in speech that Israel shoule be wiped of the map, Israel calls for Iran to be expelled from the UN.

And along with this the media spins into action. Maybe to justify another war.

Looks like there will be Eid on two seperate days again this year!!!!
Below is an article I wrote several years ago for The Revival Magazine...it tries to explain why we have Eid on seperate days:

How many of us have had this kind of chat year in year out? Why do we have Eid on two separate days? Why can't the ulema agree to have it on one day? What are the arguments and debates behind the scene?

I have been practising Islam since January. not long i know, but i am trying to learn more about the religion.

I did not grow up in a very islamic area, and found it difficult to learn about the religion as there was not a regular mosque here.
