Like any country Britain has its mixture of the picturesque and the downright ugly, services and attitudes we can take pride in and some we find inadequate, things that work and things that don't. Culturally Britain has spearheaded progression in areas like industry, equality, justice and integration. Britain also has a colonial past, a mixture of strong values and selfish conquest. Today Britain seeks to make opportunities abundant for everyone who lives here.

Here we are. Do we love it? What if anything makes us proud to be British? What do we think?

Hey jus wonderin wat every1s background is coz i've noticed there does seem 2 b alot of diffo background peepz ere. So if you dont mind then can you jus say where your from and if your background is important in signifyin you or not? Answer if you wana if not den sfe. Thanx. Oh im bengali and it does build up who i am but my islamic personality comes first to me then my backyard identity.

No point in startin a new thread so jus thought id add it on this. Anyways jus wonderin is sheesha allowed and are gals allowed to av it o not?

Assalamu-Alaikum! Just wondering if anyone is going to the GLOBAL PEACE AND UNITY CONFERENCE. Its the biggest Islamic event going and loadsa people like Zain Bhikka, Dawud Whansby Ali and other guests speakers from around the world are gona be present In London, even the lady from pakistan sorry dont know her name. If your over the age of 6 then the ticket price is £12.

I for one am glad the plan to hold terror suspects for 90 days without

charge did not go through. To hold somebody for 90 days is absurd not to

mention a violation against the human rights of an individual. Surely 14

days is enough to question somebody and find out whether they are a

terrorist or not. We can see the consequences the new terror laws have

had on innocent people (jeans carles denemez) through carless mistakes

made by the police in believeing certain individuals are terrorists .

Islam feminists urge gender jihad

Organisers of the first international congress on Islamic feminism are calling for a "gender jihad".

Organiser Abdennur Prado Pavon says the struggle for gender equality in Islamic countries involves refuting chauvinist interpretations of Muslim teachings.

The congress is being held in Spain, organisers say, because they want their message to reach the growing number of Muslim women in Europe.

Around 300 delegates are looking at women's rights in the Islamic world.
