Baby Names

Assalamualaykum,

Me and my wide recently had our first child which we named Aisha. My wife is Christian but I am muslim (from a Shia family) but practice more the Sunni way as I was never tought by my Father or his family and embraced Islam myself.

Although we have decided Aisha I have had constant remarks from my family about the name and the dislike towards it. I understand the reasons why but is it really possible for a whole nation (Iran) to "Hate" the name as some family members have described it? Surely this is small minded foolishness.

The Give Israel Your United Support (GIYUS) website hosts a downloadable desktop tool called Megaphone. The program alerts users to opinion polls and "talkback" features on news sites so they can respond with pro-Israel views. In turn, users can alert GIYUS operators to any opinion polls they think should be targeted.

The Jerusalem-based World Union of Jewish Students launched GIYUS and Megaphone on 19 July, a week after Israel launched air attacks in Lebanon.

I think it’d be useful to post tid-bits of invaluable information-religious/non religious here in this thread.

It can be stuff that you learnt in work/Uni/Mosque/in a talk/something a wise elder told you/a life experience or something that you suddenly realised.

It can be minor or major stuff. It has to be stuff that you never knew before.

The 17 MPs, who were elected in 2001, made the call as the prime minister faced mounting pressure to name his departure date.

The news prompted Cabinet minister David Miliband to say he expected Mr Blair to quit in a year's time.

It follows a leaked memo detailing plans for a farewell tour by Mr Blair.

Uncertainty fears

The prime minister has said he will step down before the next election but has refused to give more details about his plans at this month's Labour conference in Manchester.

Women vs Work

A growing number of women think companies are biased in favour of men.

And most feel intimidated because of their gender, according to a report.

Four out of five of a survey of 2,000 female employees felt their careers were being held back, and most said they had faced discrimination, said law firm Peninsula.

More than four out of five said they would not bother to complain to their boss if they were being harassed because they did not believe they would be taken seriously, it found.
