Allah never orders anything except that Satan takes two contradictory stances towards it: either shortcoming and negligence or overzealousness and exaggeration. It does not matter [to him] by which of these two mistakes he becomes victorious over the slave. He comes to the heart of the slave and examines it. If he finds in it listlessness and looking for loopholes, he deals with him from that vantage. He impedes him and makes him sit. He strikes him with laziness, listlessness and lethargy. He opens for him the door to reinterpretations (ta’weel), hopes and so forth until the slave may not fulfill anything of what he is commanded.

Syria denies supplying scud missiles to Lebanon

Syria has denied Israeli accusations it had supplied scud missiles to the militant group Hezbollah.

Israeli President Shimon Perez had accused Damascus on Tuesday of shipping the long-range missiles to guerrillas in the south of Lebanon.

The US expressed alarm at the accusation. The Obama administration has re-establish relations with Syria after a five-year hiatus.

A Syrian government statement said the accusations were "fabrications".

Volcanic ash halts all UK flights

All flights in and out of the UK have been suspended as ash from a volcanic eruption in Iceland moves south.

Safety body Eurocontrol said up to 4,000 flights across northern Europe would be cancelled on Thursday.

The air traffic control service (Nats) said no flights would be allowed in or out of UK airspace until 1800BST amid fears of engine damage.

The airspace restriction was the most significant in living memory, a spokesman said.

Nats suggested that the restrictions were unlikely to be lifted after 1800, saying it was "very unlikely that the situation over England will improve in the foreseeable future".

Why do donors tick the opt-out box for eyes?

Of the hundreds of thousands of organ donors who may have had their wishes wrongly recorded, many chose not to donate their eyes. Why are some people so reluctant to give them up in death?

While many of Britain's 17 million registered body part donors give consent for all their organs and tissues to be used for transplant after their death, more than 10% have chosen to with-hold consent for certain parts - by far the most common being eyes.

Historically, they have held cultural and spiritual significance. Referred to as "windows to the soul" by Roman philosopher Cicero, the eye is also often regarded as symbolising knowledge. In Hinduism and Buddhism, the third eye is a symbol of enlightenment.

The thing I find weird is that she is reunited with her mothers family and not her father - a person the mother divorced because he did not want to join "a global jihad". Surely he should be the one who is the sensible option to be united with for the child?

Do you believe that Islam is about finding fault and picking fights with others? Do you prefer a theocracy's nuclear showdown to a tolerant society? Would it be a blessing to you if everyone suddenly believed all the world's slander of Israel and backed a campaign to destroy the state? Are America and the UK an axis of evil hellbent on nefariously protecting Jewish interests above their own? Are people making arguments you don't agree with just trying to undermine and conquer you? Is it acceptable to oppose them with beliefs borrowed from the script of neo-nazis and decried by legitimate historians the world over? And are scientists in the fields of geology, biology and physics doing their utmost to destroy God?
