When I grow up…

Salaam

I was asking my class what they want to be when they grow up…after I got through the “supermen and pussycat dolls wannabes”…I decided to tell them what I wanted to do when I “grow up”.

When I said this out loud I realised how silly it sounded to my class cos to them I was “grown up”.

At 22 I don’t feel like a “grown up”…often I feel that in front of 10/11 year olds I’m good at “acting like a grown up”…but its all an act.

Undercover Mosques

An undercover investigation has revealed disturbing evidence of Islamic extremism at a number of Britain's leading mosques and Muslim institutions, including an organisation praised by the Prime Minister.

Secret video footage reveals Muslim preachers exhorting followers to prepare for jihad, to hit girls for not wearing the hijab, and to create a 'state within a state'. Many of the preachers are linked to the Wahhabi strain of Islam practised in Saudi Arabia, which funds a number of Britain's leading Islamic institutions.

Moaners

Salaam

Apparently the British Society is always moaning.

I remember a while ago…I came home moaning about some traffic diversion cos of some religious festival…and a one hour car journey took me over three hours. My granddad who was there at the time, pointed out that the British do nothing but moan…if it isn’t about the traffic, we’re moaning about the weather and if its not the weather its about inflation…or being “busy” or “stressed with a lot on”…

He was like…we get stuck on buses back home for a whole day at a time and don’t come home moaning about it.

Am I bovvered?

British girls are some of the most violent in the world, according to new research. Britain's "ladette" culture - in which women and girls imitate macho behaviour - has been blamed for fuelling such violence.

The study, which surveyed 161,000 pupils, found that, while boys were more violent overall, British schoolboys were further down the league table than their female counterparts.

More schoolgirls are drinking, smoking and being disruptive in class, according to research carried out at Lancaster University.

'Greedy' Asians

Research shows many Asian and Chinese students succumb to family pressure and only choose degrees linked to high-earning careers

"I did a BA in French and Spanish, but I got so much stick from other Asian students about it. They were incredulous that I was doing a supposedly inferior degree, when they were on business-related ones. They said: 'What sort of job will it lead to? There's no money in that."'
Jaipooja Shah, who's now doing a Master's at Manchester Business School, accuses her Asian peers of being narrow-minded. "They follow the money.

Teachers-Role Models?

Salaam

Young children are with their teacher from 9.00am to 3.30pm. If their teacher is passionate about his/her work, enthusiastic and makes learning fun, then children would think the world of her/him… and as a result the teacher would reg receive cards, presents, poems etc

And if the children are really young then they’d believe absolutely everything the teacher tells them…and if they’re a tad bit older and think highly of their teacher then they are more likely to copy their teachers dress, way of talking and general mannerism to the T.

To what Extent Can We Participate?

Salaam

When I was in school, sometimes I had girls asking me to cover up for them…you know, if their mum rang me or asked me where their daughter was I’d have to say, “yeh she’s with me”…whilst in actual fact they were somewhere else.

I never, ever agreed to get involved…not because of religious reason. But I was scared that if the girl got caught, I’d also get into trouble for covering up for her.

Little Miss Provocative

Padded bra, hair extensions, high heels, a skimpy mini-dress, fake nails, caked on foundation…and she’s just 10 years old.

Sash Bennington is a contestant in UK first ever kiddie pageant. Her mum used to do glamour stuff and has taught her that “nobody wants to be around ugly people”.

Beauty pageants are big in the US…but apparently its catching on in the UK too.

How dodgy is this?

The Gratitude Thread

Salaam

The British moan, criticise and complain a lot ….be it regarding the weather, traffic or inflation. Most people are always "stressed out"...

Modern research on stress has often focused on the fact that, living in the West, we have little reason for real stress, and we often exaggerate it.

In the past we’ve had moaning/whining threads…threads on stuff that annoys us/stuff that makes us angry.

So….why don’t we have a “count your blessings thread”.

What do we have that we’re extremely grateful for? What do we have that no one else has?
