Whats your relationship like with Allah?

Salaam

Most Muslims pray, fast, give charity, avoid the haraam…and do the basics.

Some even actively work for Islam, by making a difference in their community, doing talks, organising classes and programmes etc

However, out of thousands and thousands of supposedly ‘active’ Muslims. Only a handful of them have a loving, relationship with God.

It’s not something that’s easy to generate…after all, how can you have a relationship with someone that you’ve never seen, heard or met.

What’s your relationship like with God? Is He the first One you turn to when you’re in trouble?

Mentoring

Salaam

In most professions, whilst you’re doing your training, you’re usually assigned to someone who is your mentor.

He/she would usually be someone experienced in the field that you’re interested in pursuing. Your mentor’s role would be to oversee the progress that you are making, model good practise and offer support at every step.

I had a fantastic mentor in my last school placement, she basically taught me how to teach, (my current mentor doesn’t have time for me).

Cheaters?

Salaam

I received a letter from Uni a while back regarding an assignment that I had allegedly colluded.

I was really stressed out when I received that letter cos I’m coming towards the end of my course and I didn’t want anything to jeopardise my finals…and this is a issue that people get kicked out of Uni for. Luckily for me, my friend who DID copy my assignment honestly admitted to the school that I did not give her my consent that she could copy my assignment. So, my Uni decided not to take any action against me.

Time Management

Salaam

‘I’m too busy’ ‘I have a lot on’ ‘I don’t have time for anything these days’.

Are comments that I’m sure we all make from time to time.

And this is despite the fact that we live in such a fast society…a society that prides itself on fast food, fast communication and fast travel. So, despite having all the time saving facilities – we’re always in a rush, we’re always too busy and we don’t have time for others – and Allah (swt).

Smoking Ban

Smoke ban threat to shisha cafes

The smoking ban which comes into force in July could drive shisha cafes out of business, traders have warned.
Cafe owners in Edgware Road, west London, are campaigning for the popular Middle Eastern tobacco pipe to be exempt from the new legislation.

Cafe owner Ibrahim El-Nour said shisha contained "small amounts of tobacco" and was less harmful than cigarettes.

"Shisha smoking is a social activity enjoyed by different age groups in social gatherings and a happy environment," he said.

'Dangerous' Hijaabs

Five young teams from across Canada walked out of a Quebec soccer tournament Sunday because a young Muslim girl was ejected for wearing a hijab.

"The referee was staring and pointing. 'She can't play,'" said Asmahan, Asi to her friends. "I was like why? Why can't I play?"

Because of a safety rule, league spokesman Lyes Arfa said. He pointed out that the referee is Muslim himself, and that the ban on hijabs is to protect children from being accidentally strangled.

"We have to protect the players on the field, and that's the main point. It's not against the Muslims."

It's just a piece of material, it can't do any harm," added Alicia Stainton

What would you change about yourself?

Salaam

I can think of 101 things that, if I changed about myself I’d be a much nicer person.

As Muslims we should always be striving to better ourselves so that we can benefit those who live with us, the wider society and more importantly our own selves…..bad manners/bad behaviour can be self-destructive.

Our pious predecessors would spend years just trying to rectify one negative aspect of their character….they even wrote countless books on this topic….one pious man spent 40years just trying to control his anger.

Me, personally.

The Up's and Down's of Ones Iman/Life etc

[quote]Joe Abdullah spends his university career in the MSA doing Islamic work. While having this charge he is blessed with having ideas upon ideas that will change the way this ummah works and change the way Muslims are viewed in the west. Although these ideas would definitely change the ummah's course, reality starts knocking on Joe Abdullah's door.
