I agree with having a simple wedding but I don't know how you can have a wedding at a house when you have hundreds of cousins and friends... unless you live in a mansion.
You can't invite some relatives and friends and leave others out, that's just rude.
And do you HAVE to videotape the wedding? Also what's with having bollywood music in the background, I can't remember a single wedding video I've watched which doesn't have it.
Its not so much about hiring out a hall for the wedding which i understandable coz there are alot of ppl but the amount of gold and clothes that are given to the bride which i find unnecessary. Some ppl will even turn to the bank for a loan and end up in debt all coz they care about what other ppl think of them.
the best wedding imo: nikkah at the masjid and for food, dates and fruits.
follow the sunnah and you can never go wrong

So true, but wedding celebrations imo have nothing to do with religion; purely cultural.

It seems as years go by weddings get more lavish, simple is nice, If people can afford a huge weding then why not, only thing is every tom/dick and harry would be invited to it.
I've decided when my kids get married, i'll give them a wedding within mine and hubbys budget and only invite who they want to attend at wedding!
Its like the greatest moment of your life and you have these greedy ppl who are only there for the food!!

I feel sorry for the people who attend for the food.
