NO TOPIC
Well This is the new No Topic Topic. ๐
For those who do not know, this place is to talk about nothing. Nada. Zilch. And everything else which according to you does not deserve it's own topic.
The other one was getting a bit long, and was just full of bickering now.
So we have a new start.
The bickering in the Old no topic should not be carried over to here.
EDIT - go to NO TOPIC the Third.

6 pounds is the average weight for a newborn baby. How much did you weigh....30 pounds????
My science teacher and his wife are both 6 foot tall, their baby weighed 12 pounds when it was born, and that is more than average.....feel sorry for the mother.

Aside from the notion of People of the Book, does Islam have a similar concept of righteous non-Muslims?

In relative terms I think yes. In absolute terms I think usually no. I think absolute righteousness is taken at death. Typically a person acting upon Islam and imaan at the moment of death is as I understand it righteous.
However righteous people who never recieved the true message of Islam (can include those who were innoculated against it from an early age); Imam Al Ghazali RA hopes they will recieve paradise. He RA is a mujtahid (massive, massive scholar) and so his opinion is a valid.

Re: Righteous Among the Nations
In Judaism we have a concept of Righteous Gentiles. This means that non-Jews are not obligated to keep Jewish laws or customs but earn a place in Olam Haba, the world to come, through an upstanding life of their own making. (Some rabbis proposed that the minimal requirements for a place in Olam Haba can be inferred from the laws given to Noah summarised in seven principles. Those principles are: 1. Acknowledge a single source of all life (God) 2. Do not blaspheme 3. Support the establishment of courts of justice 4. Oppose and refrain from murder 5. Oppose and refrain from theft 6. Oppose and refrain from sexual perversion 7. Do not eat the flesh of a live animal.) Hence we don't go about encouraging conversion.

To an extent. Expanding on what dawud said:
1. Everyone is rewarded for their good deeds. Even non-muslims.
2. polytheism is unforgivable.
3. If someone has not encountered Islam in an unadulterated form, as long as the person tries to be good looks for righteousness, believes in one god, then maybe.
4. If someone encounters Islam in an unadulterated form, rejects it, or just tries to avoid it out of hand not looking for righteousness, then no.
This is one of those theological debates with no real answers.
In it's simplest form, who goes to heaven or hell is not our choice, but is at the mercy of Allah (swt).
He (swt) is just, but also merciful. Noone who should go to heaven will go to hell, but many who 'deserve' to go to hell will go to heaven.
