Size 0, attractive?

Size zero is an american size.

It is either size 4 or 6 in the uk.

I did - I like little girls.

Wait, let me rephrase that - I find petit girls attractive. And size zero is not the only petit size. The question seems unfair to me, consider that some girls are small, genetically, and it has nothing to do with pandering to the barbie image. They don't look emaciated or sickly - they look just like any normal healthy girl... just smaller.

I'm with lilsis, the real issue is about dictating looks - pop culture is too superficial to give us a realistic (or healthy) idea of beauty.

.

thats the thing

with the size 6-8 girls i know

they either have very small frames

or are short

so they dont look sick or unhealthy

and size 6-8 suits them

when they increase to a size 10 - they actually look fat

dress size is very much dependent on what suits a girl - depending on her frame and height

be it a size 0 or a size 14

i think the whole argument here shouldn't be about dress sizes, but about bmi and ultimately, health! a size zero (or british size 4) is just not healthy, regardless of whether you're 6 OR 5 foot tall. petite doesn't even come into it.

lilsis re: ur comment about who would want to see fat models on the catwalk, maybe you havent come across the articles/programmes about places in africa which hold beauty pageants and the fatter the model the more beautiful she's considered to be, or the 'fat camps' in mauritania for young girls. it's just the society we're brought up in that shapes our view of 'beauty'. i think both are extremes and wrong - what goes on in mauritanian fat camps and on western catwalks is torture, simple as. there's no other way to describe being mentally forced to starve yourself to lose weight, or physically force-fed to put loads on.

and re: ur list of models, isn't the skinniest keira knightley ever got a british size 6? most of the skinny girls u mentioned (with the exception of kate moss) are size 6, which at their height is probably still unhealthy but not for us shorties. Wink

i don't think size 6-8 suits really tall girls because they just look like sticks, size 10-12 actually looks healthy and prettier on them. whereas as u said, when it comes to shorter girls (4'11" to 5'3" -ish) size 10-12 can make us start looking unhealthy in the overweight sense...

bottomline: don't starve or stuff yourselves! stay healthy, and remember: 1/3 food, 1/3 water, 1/3 air... Smile

I agree health is the most important thing but you're absolutely wrong that size zero is always unhealthy. Some girls simply are a size zero - and that's their normal healthy size, just like some people have 20/12 vision and others have 20/20 - Keira Knightley is such an example, a healthy (British) size four, or Audrey Hepburn. Genetically some girls are just small... that's how they are, no matter how much they eat.

The problem arises when girls who are really supposed to be a healthy size four feel pressured to be four sizes smaller because society randomly declared that to be the desired size of females. It's a matter of health, but even still one must remember there is variation there.

1. people CAN be a healthy size zero. body frame and being petite etc DOES play a part.

2. the BMI is not entirely accurate.

3. the 'fat camps' are the exception and not the norm.

4. keira is a size 0 (british size 4).

5. if size 6-8 didnt suit tall girls, then most size 0-6 girls wouldnt be models.

6. yes. we shouldnt starve ourselves.

i know some girls are 'just small', but when grown women's clothing starts fitting 7 yr olds, something is clearly wrong. if someone is like 4'11" then maybe being a healthy size zero is possible for them but i don't think it's natural for taller girls to be a healthy size zero. there's a reason why size zero isn't even sold in the petite section of high street shops.

in mauritanian villages they are the norm, and it is part of their culture that 'big is beautiful'. national geographic has done a documentary on this. i even have a somali friend who's a size 8 and when she goes to somalia to visit relatives they tell her 'if you don't put some weight on you're never gonna get married'!

who said it suits the models to be size 0? lilsis you're assuming such models are beautiful but the image they are made to portray isn't natural beauty. the modelling industry puts pressure on the models as well as other young women to lose weight to an unrealistic level. tall girls can pull off size 6-8 but size 4 isn't pretty, it's emaciated.

Look I'm not going to get into the details of movie stars sizes, but its simply not true that size zero is always unhealthy. Sometimes it's a matter of genetics - the idea that every last size zero has some sort of eating disorder is just as inaccurate as saying every last plus size girl lacks self discipline.

you're not reading what i'm writing - i accepted the possibility that size zero may be a natural size for very short girls, but its taller girls and models being that size which i'm contesting. and also, i repeat: if size zero really is a 'natural' size for such girls, why isn't it sold in high street shops?

lol, well then if lilsis said so it must be true.

But I do read only the things I want to villify sometimes - unfortunately I am an arrogant jerk... like a real one, not a pretend or joking one anymore. I've noticed it a lot on the forum, and in real actual life. My wife was good enough to tell me in her usual tender way (I read between the lines). So I'm trying to become a reformed jerk.

That's tricky - because sometimes I'm right, but then again there are nicer ways of being right than I usually opt for. So that's one of my anniversary gifts today, along with scrapping sarcasm I'm going to be respectful of people and their opinions. I printed up this cheesey certificate to that effect... of course I gave her more expensive gifts but this will mean more.

Righto - I believe she's due back in a couple minutes so I am off.

Adios

your assuming that most girls on the catwork - most of whom are tall and a size 0-8 are 'emanipated'

thats a huge generalisation to make

some ARE but not ALL of them

and reg the fact that size 0 isnt sold in the shops

i know it isnt and it should be

just cos it isnt the AVERAGE size of women - why must the small number of women who ARE this size suffer?

a friend of mine (who by the way is very, VERY, short) can only wear designer clothes cos high street clothes dont come below a size 0

even a size 6 is very rare to find (except for in topshop) -

and that isnt fair

BTW 'pretty' is relative

u might not find size 4 girls pretty - i find kate moss and victoria very pretty

this doesnt mean that i find 'emancipated girls who have their ribs sticking out' pretty

no way

but i also dont find larger women pretty

"MuslimSisLilSis" wrote:

lilsis, most models are atleast 5'8" in height. it is impossible to naturally be a size zero at this height. top models on the paris/london fashion week starve themselves, it's part and parcel of the job. it's not uncommon for models to boast about how little they eat, some live on a pot of yoghurt a day, and the occasional carrot stick when they get hunger pangs. this was all in the news when those two models died, when milan decided to ban such models from their fashion week.

"MuslimSisLilSis" wrote:

most high street shops don't sell size 6, let alone size 4 because there are hardly any women who are that size so it doesn't make economical sense to get a whole stock of size zero clothes, they wouldn't sell.

"MuslimSisLilSis" wrote:

i'm assuming you meant 'below a size 6' because if your friend's below a size zero she must be disappearing! Wink and funny how u mentioned her being short, have u read my posts? coz dave didn't either. Blum 3 i accepted the possibility that size zero may be a natural size for extremely short girls.
tell your friend to go to the younger kids section (12/13 yr olds'), i know ppl who do that. or she can go to topshop and get size 6, it can't be that big for her! OR she can stitch her clothes in, i know someone who does that too. on a more serious note, if you can feel her ribs jutting out when you hug her, something is seriously wrong, no matter how short she is.

"MuslimSisLilSis" wrote:

to be totally honest i don't know what u see in - she does drugs for starters, which is way uncool. Blum 3 anyway the point isn't whether me or you find these girls pretty or not - the question is how far a person is willing to go to achieve that size (because we know from their previous pics that it's not their natural size). if their health is at risk, i don't care how pretty they look, it's just not right.

1. Again ur generalising, Yes SOME models do die of anerexia and SOME models are emacipated BUT NOT ALL OF THEM

it IS possible to be skinny and healthy

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4389837.stm

2. most women are a size 16plus according to the 'average weight' poll. how come size 16 is so hard to find? esp in high street shops

the fashion industry should cater to ALL shapes and sizes.

be it a size 0 or a size 16

3. and regarding my friend. why on earth shud she wear kiddie clothes? she's in her 20's she aint a kid. so naturally she wouldnt want to wear barbie clothes or other kiddie stuff. so excuse her for wanted to wear adult clothes considering she is an adult.

and BTW no she doesnt have sticking out ribs, nor do other girls i know who are a size 0-6

4. my issue aint regarding health. NO ONE should mess about with their natural body weight - be it shrink to a size 0 or balloon to a size 16

but fact is

some girls just HAPPEN to be a natural small size - this doesnt make them unhealthy

im a size 6 and no im not really really short - nor do i have any ribs sticking out

Actually lilsis is right, the question is whether you consider these girls pretty - that's the poll. Frankly the issue of whether it is good to allow pop culture to impose a certain size as the definition of beauty is a valid point - but that isn't the poll.

And let's back off the jokes about kids clothes and ribs sticking out, that's not necessary.

"MuslimSisLilSis" wrote:

who said it's not possible to be skinny and healthy? i'm not talking about the usual 'skinny'. i'm talking about a size zero girl who happens to be really tall, like, 5'8" tall. that's a whole other ball game, not your run-of-the-mill 'skinny'.

what poll? -reference? and since when was size 16 hard to find? recently when i was in high street shops with a friend i was shocked to see size 20 on sale, forget size 16!

high street shops are out to make money. if they know a line of size zero clothing isn't going to sell very well, they'd be idiots to produce it.

lol barbie clothes? kids nowadays are being morphed into little adults, teenage fashion mimics adult fashion, the only difference is smaller sizes - just have a look at the 'generation 915' section on the new look website, for example. the girl i mentioned who gets some things from the teenage section is also 24, she just happens to be of small stature.

Size 0 CAN be attractive.

But then again, so can a larger dress size.

It all depends on what suits a persons body frame and height.
