Declining education in Muslims

Salaam

From the topic about the earth being flat or round... is it me or are muslims becoming more and more ignorant?

should the information age make the opposite the more common path?

and more importantly what can and should be done about it?

Greetings of salam (peace) to all

Perhaps the title of our topic is somewhat an overstatement, is it not? I think the vast majority of Muslimeen are are aware of the exact 'shape of the Earth', however on the other hand a large number of them do not receive the necessary amount of education they require.

The Christians have been through an equal phase where they almost executed Galileo himself for proclaiming that the world is round. In regards to the lack of education within Muslim the populace, I am mainly concerned about the Muslim women who reside in Muslim countries wherein sexism is not uncommon, given that it is mostly they who do not have access to a decent educational program.

Finally I will say that it is not only the Muslim world that suffers from this problem; rather there are a few more parts in our world where there exists no means to satisfy one's education needs. In concluson, there is plenty of things Muslims can do to rectify the present situation; it is merely a matter of will with a difference between actually contributing to the solution and sitting around discussing the matter.

All the best,

Yusuf

alot of muslims are ignorant , i think there is a lack of islam being taught to children, our schools dont teach us anything much about islam, the mosques just want to teach us how to read quran and namaz,

so maybe Islamic schools can be the answer, or why dont mosques have classes where they teach children the teachings of islam, islamic history and hadeeth :?:

also i think people are ignorant because they only listen to what they want to listen to, you have to have an open mind and broad view, how people like raj could think that islam teaches the world is flat is beyond me

Assalamu Alaikum,

I don't believe this nonsense for one minute. Ignorance is prevalent in society as a whole not just amongst Muslims. The decline in moral values and general education as compared with bygone years can be seen across different cultures, races and those adhering to a range of religions.

Due to 9/11 and July bombings Muslims have inevitably been demonised but this demonisation is perpetuated by the media on a daily basis.

Also the public are so fickle they will take anything as "truth" on the say so of a journalist on TV or a headline in the papers. Those who can't be bothered to do their own research will often read an article over breakfast or hear a sound bite on the radio and then repeat it like a parrot as if it's revelation sent down by God. Nevermind that it is most likely speculation, ppl repeat untruths enough and it is gradually accepted as the truth. Sadly this is how most ppl form their views these days, they seem to have lost the ability to use their own minds.

This is one of those headlines, one of those cheap articles in a trashy tabloid I don't believe it for a second. If the article had referred to black and ethnic minorities having worse grades than the rest of the population I'd probably agree. However pinpointing "Muslims" alone is pathetic. I want to see the proof for this suggestion please.

Also has research been conducted into the educational standards of Christians, Jews, Hindus and Sikhs, Atheists and Agnostics aswell? If not then this accusation is baseless because you aren't testing it against other variables.

the world today finds itself in the same situation, but its no hiddent fact that the Ummah is a long way from what it used to be. it has stagnated.

problem lies in adab and lack of it, ignorance and wealth of it

the muslims have abandoned sacred knowledge, and dont even know the virtues of it

The Lover is ever drunk with love;
He is free, he is mad,
He dances with ecstasy and delight.

Caught by our own thoughts,
We worry about every little thing,
But once we get drunk on that love,
Whatever will be, will be.

i'm a bit uneducated, actually a lot uneducated, that's why i joined the forum, to learn.

Realising you lack knowledge is the first step to correcting the issue.

Dunno, you don't talk like a kid, you seem too angry to be a kid, and I figured if you wanted to run off to a war you were at least at a point in your life where there was nothing else going on...

I’m ignorant on a lot of topics, esp politics, history, current affairs etc

I'am pretty lazy when it comes to learning....but the only thing that keeps me going in the learning process is the fact that I’m reg teaching…and in order to convey new concepts/ideas to others I need to thoroughly learn/understand concepts myself.
