Assalamualaikum,
Recently at our University Isoc we have had a sudden influx of shia involvement in our Isoc. Their activities such as dua kumayl are advertised on our weekly emails to all the Muslims in the University, they bring in their own speakers which again is advertised on our emails, and with no indication whether these talks are by shia speakers.
Their involvement has gone from nonexistence to overwhelming activity, all in the name of 'integration'. The committee has given the go ahead to this without seeking any scholarly advice, as they feel the Isoc, since it now has sunni and shia members, must be representative of all of them.
Does anyone know what the currect stance should be?
jz for any advice
Umar
p.s. sorry I know this topic doesnt quite fit in with how to marry your boyfriend or getting a flat stomach, but I think its worthy of discussion all the same on an Islamic forum.
lol
I think it depends on what is actually discussed in their events. If its sectarian, or slagging off other muslim groups, then it is a problem.
I have no idea what this DUa Kumayl is, so I will not comment.
Our position is that shia's, whilst not 100% correct, can still be considered muslims. Unless that is if they actually commit an act, or hold a belief that is kufr.
And since its ther Islamic society, and not the sunni society, I cannot see how they can be sidelined. However just be aware what events are by them, and be careful, and look up what they say to make sure it is acceptable.

I see your point, but most of the students have minimal knowledge and if a shia scholar says certain things then we wont really know and we cant check up on everything, its just practically very difficult to do that every week.
I suppose the bigger question I'm asking is, is it worth not permitting shia talks to safeguard the aqeedah of 90% of the Muslims?
Dua kumayl by the way is a shia practice of reciting certain 'dua's every thursday night, in a very singing/chanting type fashion.
have a rule where aqeedah discussions are offlimits.
that will safeguard all sides then.
Have discussions on practcalities instead of beliefs.

yep
bann all aqeedah topics and also topics on islamic history
other then that i dont see the prob
the prob with us muslims is that 99% of the time we focus and blow out of proportion minute differences between other groups n sects rather then focusing on the 101 similarities
shows that we have too much time on our hands
It dont make sense....
all isoc's are headed by FOSIS.....and they have people in charge thru their links...and are mainly deo/najdi's.....my mate tells me its Ahle Sunnah...can't see how the shia's took over
im not saying anything wrong with it of course....but at uni's...u need mainstream Islam
No shia's in our committee
