The “Don't freak, I'm a Sikh” stickers on backpacks and tee shirts are very common in London underground.
Such stickers make me smile however; this is quite a serious issue for the Sikh.
According to statistics Sikhs face more racist backlash that Muslims because of their turbans….its ironic because the turban in the UK is a sign of the Sikh identity and not the Muslim one…
Because of this reason some Sikhs have a serious problem with Muslims.
However, this is nothing new, apparently in the 70’s 80’s (according to my uncles/older cousins from up north), the Sikh and Muslim’s were always kicking off…
Even today, there is often tension between Sikhs and Muslims especially in Birmingham and west London, Leicester etc
A Hindu acquaintance of mine was telling me that when she goes out she makes sure that she’s wearing a bindi…or talks loudly about pork/alcohol so that people know that she’s a Hindu.
I wanted to know about your relationship with the Sikh Community in your area…my area has LOADS of Sikh.
In college there were only three other Asian girls in my year….two were Sikh and one was hindu. We were always fighting, I considered then incredibly racist. But maybe they were just typical, bitchy, teenage girls.
My neighbours are Sikh….they’re nice people. My Sikh mate from high school converted to Islam.
My cars been stuck twice in the middle of a Guru Nanak festival…one time some nice Sikh people helped me to get my car out (I had to reverse into a very busy main road to get out of the jaloos)…..I’ll always fondly remember my Sikh examiner who passed me, even though I messed up big time in my driving test.
The men in my family (my uncles/cousins) etc have a strong issue with Sikh people…
In high school if a Muslim guy wanted to anger the Sikh guys he'd date a Sikh girl...and vice versa :?
Whats the Sikh/hindu community like in your area?
Wasalaam
Sikh's seem weird to me. For some reason. I don't know, its just like, really weird. Matbe I've got it into my head that Muslims have a monopoly on being Indo-pak.
Sikh's are just like everyone else from the inside underneath the kara/padka they're all just as varied as any other section of society...but then London always is famous for racial tensions of some kind or other. (I think).
From being on the outside though, just seems weird.
Edit: Kudos for the title. For the last two/three months your titles seem to be getting more and more ghetto-fied.
Gentleness and kindness were never a part of anything except that it made it beautiful, and harshness was never a part of anything except that it made it ugly.

There is a funny scene in 'Inside Man' when a sikh hostafge is released...
The typical alqaeda gag, but its funny til you realise in real life the guy would end up dead...
"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.
Assalamu Alaikum,
Sikhs weird how so??? Don't you think you're discriminating just a tad bit? Or have you had bad experiences with them?
I've never had issues with Sikh or Hindu ppl. I just thght their cultural traditions are ironically very much like mine. We differ in religion yes, but many of us speak similar or the same languages, dress, and even foods. I feel like I can relate to them in that sense.
our city is known to have the largest demonomination of Sikhs, followed by Christians, and Muslims and Hindus come at the bottom of the scale. Although there are more caucasian ppl in our town religion wise Sikhs appear to dominate. I don't have any problem with it they don't cause any trouble, in fact all those i've ever met have become very close friends with me.
At school I had Sikh, Hindu and African mates. Religion never got in the way, we never made it a dividing issue.
At work 90% of my colleagues were asian and of those 80% were Sikh. We got on incredibly well. There was no hatred. In fact they often wanted to speak about religion. I was close mates with one girl and her parents never discouraged it, in fact they'd invite me over, give me lifts home etc.
Now I live in a district which is known as a Sikh area, although there are some muslims around, a mosque being built a few doors away from a large Ghudwara, we seem to live in harmony for the most part. We have had no problems at all.
I technically have sikh cousins now, coz of a family marriage, and they have not treated me any differently coz of my religion or culture. In fact they're keen on learning the language and cooking methods.
One of my brothers two closest friends are sikh. i remember growing up, they'd be down our house so much anyone would think they were memebrs of our family. My dad would even swear at um, say it's late go home why here lol. Mum would tell dad off they'd come in have dinner even sleep over sometimes. They've got married recently, but they still come over when they get the chance.
I;ve not come across any racial tensions although i have heard they exist particularly in Birmingham.
So I can't say i really understand your feelings about Sikh community. I've only had positive relationships with them.
In college I was often forwarded racist text messages from these two Sikh girls..
There was one that I'll always remember "whats the difference between a paki and ET? ET looked better, smelt better, learned english, came alone, had his own bike and eventually went home. Go home you Paki"...
Even though this joke could be applicable on all Asians...
But other than that, I've never had issues with Sikh people, I've never considered them culturally any different to us. So, I could never understand the Sikh/Muslim tension...
lol it was probably something a white kid texted them.
i used to like rishi rich and juggy D's tunes back in the day
other then their music
i neither like nor dislike sikh
but they did give my cry baby lil sister a ice cream once when my sisters car was at a stand still at the guru nanak festival a little while back
"pants on fire" aint very ghetto-fied
its just a play on the childish poem "liar liar, pants on fire, head stick up like a telephone wire"
VERY juvinile
but this one aint bad
salaam
one of my very good frends in high school was sikh and we got along like a house on fire!!! however some the guys had conflicts but i think may just be the chidish behaviour they had then
generally i havent had problems with sikhs they have always seemed frendly except when it comes down to cricket!! lol
maybe its Manchester but the sikh people in my area and the ones we know are nice
