No, specific reason really.

I just got my results which is more than enough. I find the whole get-up-the attire, the VIP’s, watching hundreds of people get their degree and that silly photo holding your degree with your adoring parents next to you totally unnecessary. ..It’s all show.

But if I find that this ceremony means a lot to me my parents then I may reconsider.

My mum was pretty upset when I did not go...

but then again i had no reason.

You have done very well.

May aswell please your parents.

and you never know, you may actually enjoy the day...

Yeh...I need to see how much it means to mum. I have no intention of upsetting anyone. :?

I'll wear the ugly gown and take a picture with her with a cheesy smile to make her happy.

BTW how much does it cost? To hire out the gown etc

your asking the wrong person!

The Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) said “Gratitude (shukr) for the blessing you have received is the best insurance that the abundance will continue”.

Rumi said “Thanksgiving for the benefit is sweeter than the benefit (itself)! How should one who is addicted to thanksgiving go toward the benefit?

This is because Shukr brings us nearer to the Beloved (Allah).

It easier for some people to thank Allah because they have a lot more going for them. MS you can start such threads because you have a degree at a young age, get cars as present from your dad, you are happy at home, you have your name plastered all over the web and always boast about the classes you do are well liked on the revival.

I wouldnt be suprised if you considered yourself Gods gift.

Woah Ramz that is harsh, MS doesnt do these threads to show-off, she is sharing knowledge with us, and those people are bad who have knowledge and keep it to themselves!

Ramz everyone has diff. situations, just because MS tells us her life as easy dont mean it is easy-going. Allah gives diff. tests to everyone. Just be thankful for what you got.....trust me you turn to Allah he wil give u everythin and more.

well Ramz things aren't always what they seem. Sure Muslimsis may appear as if she has it all, but i'm sure she is very aware of her own flaws, and thinks she could better herself everyday.

The fact that she has a good family life, education and career shouldn't be your justification for not thanking Allah. Shifting the blame is all too easy. Some ppl have it all but still fail to thank Allah, coz they're ungrateful. So your theory about MS doesn't ring true at all. She could have been one of those arrogant ppl that failed to thank Allah, or even admit He (swt) had given her many bounties.

How would you explain away those ppl muslim and non muslims who suffer all sorts of tragedies or live in extreme poverty yet continue to thank God for the bounties they have? I'd expect many of them to deny the existance of God in such adversity, but many remain humble and steadfast in their worship and grattitude to God i.e tsunami victims

So being rich or poor, educated or not, happy or depressed isn't a valid excuse for forgetting to thank God. It's our own failing, we are ungrateful, we always want more, we need to admit that.

:?

But I’m pretty sure many people here are graduates with a car and come from a loving home.

I do consider myself very fortunate…I have peace of mind and contentment and one can’t put a price on that.

But whatever I have is a blessing from Allah (swt)…a gift from Him.

How can I consider myself Gods gift knowing that Allah (swt) can take away what He has given me as any time He wishes?

Whatever I’ve achieved/gained in life has been because of the tawfeeq (ability) given to me by Allah (swt)….

This thread was about the ways to thank Allah (swt)…..it is easier to thank Allah (swt) when things are all good.

However, a true believer thanks Him in ALL situations.

We are all gods gift.

We all have been goven both good and bad.

And in thw qur'an it says that no soul will be burdened with more tha it can carry.

Some focus on the positive, others the negative.

Sura al-Baqarah [286]: Allah burdens not a person beyond his scope. He gets reward for that (good) which he has earned, and he is punished for that (evil) which he has earned. "Our Lord! Punish us not if we forget or fall into error, our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which You did lay on those before us (Jews and Christians); our Lord! Put not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Pardon us and grant us Forgiveness. Have mercy on us. You are our Maulâ (Patron, Suppor-ter and Protector, etc.) and give us victory over the disbelieving people

thanks.

i like that, thats so true

many people might say of others they have it all - they may even say that to me but i know i dont have anything until i really do have it all and that is the love of Allah and His Prophet(pbuh)

so though many may be satisfied with the material life, we are never satisfied with our spiritual endevours until they are realised in full

The Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) said “Whoever does not thank people has not thanked Allah”.

Everything we have, everything we’ve achieved, is all a gift/blessing from Allah (swt) and if we do not show gratefulness for what He has given us, Allah (swt) may take away what He has given us…even our obedience is a gift/towfeeq (ability) from God, and if we show self-righteousness or look down at those who may seem misguided Allah (swt) may take away their faults and give them to us.

It is said that thankfulness is the realisation of the inability to give thanks to God…

Also TRUE thankfulness is the realisation that one is not deserving of that blessing.

Prophet David (AS) said to God “How can I thank You, whilst even my gratitude is a gift from You”? God revealed to him “Now you have truly thanked Me”.

Hadrat Aisha (ra) was once asked about the most incredible thing about the Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) and she said “Every thing about Him was wonderful, but I will say this…when the veiling of the night came and every lover went to be with their lover….He went to be with His Lord”.

He Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) used to spend the night in prayer, crying until His tears soaked His beard and when Hadra Aisha (ra) said to Him “Why do cry when Allah (swt) has forgiven all your past and future sins?” He Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) said to her “Should I not be a grateful servant?”

If someone does you a favour, then the best thing you can do in return is to do something good for them.

If you can't manage that, then at least say thank you.

Showing gratitude is a way of retaliating against those who do a lot of good to you.

Revenge is a dish best served cold.

Therefore, shock them with something good. They will love you forever.

Prophet Dawud asked Allah (swt) “what is the least of Your blessings?” Allah (swt) revealed to him, “O Dawud take a breath” Prophet Dawud did so, and Allah (swt) told Him “This is the least of My blessing on you”.

A worshipper worshipped Allah (swt) for fifty years, so Allah (swt) told him that He had forgiven him. The man sad “O Allah, what is there to forgive when I have never committed a wrong action?” So Allah (swt) caused a nerve in his neck to give him pain, so he could not sleep or pray.

When the pain eased and he was able to sleep, an angel came to him, so he complained to the angel of the pain he had suffered. The angel told him “Your Lord says to you that your fifty years of worship is to pay for the soothing of your pain”.

…even the ability to worship Allah (swt) is a gift from Him (swt).

The Holy Prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) said “no one will enter Paradise on the virtue of their deeds”…the companions asked “Not even you, O Messenger of Allah (swt)?” He replied “Not even I will enter Paradise on account of my deeds”.

It is only by the blessing and mercy of Allah (swt) that people will enter Paradise…the deeds of a man can not pay for even one of the blessings of Allah (swt).
