What’s the Best Way To Thank Allah?

Salaam

Many of us (esp me) spend months with Allah (swt) on the prayer mat when they want a need fulfilled.

But when one gets what they want do they spend half that much time thanking Allah (swt) for that blessing?

The story that’s often narrated in the Sufism thread touches my heart because…. after the dua of the two lovers was fulfilled they spent their nights for the rest of their life on the prayer mat thanking Allah (swt)…that story of extreme gratitude is mind blowing to me.

I wanted to go Hajj so badly, so I spent months begging God for it…same applies for many jobs I’ve applied for and got…my driving license…my degree (I’ve just got my results! Blum 3 )… and SO many other needs that have been fulfilled.

I have never thanked God as much as I’ve begged him for stuff. :?

We often think about the best way to ask Allah (swt) for something…but what’s the best way to thank Him for what He HAS given us.

Even our obedience is a gift-a blessing from God.

A lot is to be said about gratefulness in Islam…and how grateful our pious predecessors were…people who had a LOT less than us.

Man is described as being ungrateful….and it is also said that if one manifests ungratefulness towards what God has given him…He may remove his blessings.

So yeah….what’s the best way to thank Allah (swt)?

From Islamonline:

Praising Allah (Hamd) has a more general and inclusive meaning than thanking or gratitude (Shukr), for thanks and gratitude are only a repay for a favour, whereas Hamd is both a recompense like thanks and spontaneous praise.

If you understand the universal nature of Hamd you will know that your saying "Al-Hamdu Lillah" (Praise Be To Allah) requires praise of Him for His majesty, vastness, unity, might, bestowal of favors, knowledge, ability and power, wisdom and other attributes, and that it includes the meanings of His ninety-nine beautiful names. What a word [it is] which gathers together that which volumes find difficult to express.

In Islamic terminology, Thankfulness is the acknowledgment of the fact that Allah is the only Grantor of graces, and full submission to Allah in a way that assures that acknowledgment. The graces (favors) of Allah are endless and countless.

Allah says:

"And if you were to count the blessings of Allah, you will never be able to count them." Qur'an (14: 34)

He, the All Mighty also says:

"And whatever blessings and good you have, it is from Allah ..." Qur'an (16: 53)

Thanks with the tongue is praise of the Bestower of Blessings and speaking about the blessings. Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), said:

"To talk about blessings is gratitude."

Thanks expressed by the limbs means to act in obedience to Allah and to abandon disobedience to Him. A thanks with the heart is recognition of the extent of the blessing and the knowledge that it is a gracious bestowal and not from the slave's own merit.

Know that the blessings which require gratitude cannot be enumerated, but they can be expressed in terms of three categories:

1- Worldly blessings such as health and wealth;
2- Blessings of the religion such as knowledge and fear and respect to Allah
3- Other-wordly blessings, which are one's being recompensed with much reward for few actions in a short life.

How can one thank Allah?

The word 'worshipers' represents mankind, for all of mankind should totally submit to the will of Allah- We can thank Allah in many ways. Among these ways:

Thanks Shazam...those are three good ways suugested in the above article

1-Sajda of Shukr

2-Thanking Him in words

3-Helping people in need...

I know there's nafl of Shukr....do people keep fast of Shukr as well?

The one who fasts has two pleasures: when he breaks his fast it is a pleasure and when he meets his Lord, he is pleased with his fasting.

From Abu Huraira from the Prophet (sas) who said: Allah said: Fasting is mine and I reward it. He left his pleasures, his food and his drink for My sake. And fasting is a protection...

Hmm best way to thank Allah (swt) is to rember Him all the time, not only in times of grief but also at times of happiness as Allah is the one who blesses us with all the good things in life.

Congrats muslimSister

I would say I am ungreatful. and to top that off, I am poor at asking for anything either.

My independence streak is so strong that i will rather fail miserably than ask for help. from anyone.

and when it's time to ask God to help, I am at a loss. God knows what I need more that I do. So I take it the wrong way, and do not ask. even though we have been asked to ask.

Inshallah God will help me, and make me greatful.

So you dont pray for anythin after namaz?

I normally say my dua and ask for everythin that i want (greedy i knw!) but in the end say " oh Allah whatever i have prayed for give me what is good according to you"...

Just a generic dua

If you want to be truly grateful and get in His good books then
don't make it complicated; and just go ahead and say it. Say it. Say it:

" Thank you very much indeed. I really appreciate it. You're the true Boss."

we're like twins! so ungrateful that we cant lift our heads up - thats the truth. so aware of our need of Him that we cant take a step without feeling guilty of our ungrateful existence

Wow - I never have to look up the dictionary!

That was one hell of an allegory!

10 points.

I think the best way of thanking Allah swt is simple. By apprecaiting all the blessing that he has given u. I seen alot of people once given what they wanted, show a certain amount of ungratefulness. It was one of the reason why i could never understand the story of the 2 lovers, even thought i kind of do now.

By using it

Because alot of people become bored, they get one thing and then they move on to the other without showing appreciation for it. It become a game for some people.

Well it come down to how u spend it. If you spend it in the way of Allah swt, it even better, but it better then leaving it with u and taking it to ur deathbed ain't it, it also good to give to other who need it as well. So Dave push some money my way, so i don't need to go work tonight Wink

i think so too

I'm a pay as u go girl

as soon as I get monthly pocket money-tis spent in a week

so according to ur understanding of appreciation-how wud a person appreciate their God given good looks?

By listening to Allah swt command and covering up. Not showing it off for everyone too see. Where guideline are set by Allah swt, just by following them, i think we showing gratefulness towards him.

I’m the opposite….I think I ask God for stuff too much. Esp considering I don’t feel deserving of what I ask for…

But if I don’t ask God, who can I ask? I strongly hate asking people for stuff, or telling people about stuff that may be bothering me…

I’ve always felt like a very fortunate individual…I’ve pretty much always got what I want…not just tangible things…but things one can’t see or put a value on…such as peace of mind, a loving family, people who love me, respect, and happiness etc etc ….. And I’m sure we all have.

And we all have stuff we take for granted….such as freedom, food on the table, our health, education.

There was this great Awliya (his name has totally slipped my mind atm) and basically he was on his way to Hajj…and every two steps he walked he read two rakah nafl of Shukr…and it took him 14 years to reach Mecca…such was his extreme gratefulness to Allah (swt).

You know, even the ability (tawfeeq) to thank Allah (swt) is a blessing itself…

BTW thanks guys, angel you're a darling Blum 3 ...and No, I don't intend to go to my ceremony....not sure when it is :?
