1. Sleeping on the floor.
2. Resting on the right hand side.
3. Sleeping with the right cheek resting on the palm of the right hand.
4. Taking a siesta is also established. This may be difficult to act upon daily but at the least perhaps in summer holidays when days are longer, we could make intention and take a half hour siesta. This will be most beneficial inshaALLAH.

lemme add........
5. To sleep in a state of wudhu
6. Before climbing into bed, dust the bed thrice with a cloth
7. To apply surmah thrice in each eye before going to sleep.
8. To sleep facing the Qiblah is sunnah
9. Upon seeing a bad dream make the action of spitting to the left and recite tawuz thrice

mashaALLAH, may ALLAH Ta'ala reward you.
One of the major sunnahs of Hadrat Nabi salallahu alayhi wa sallam was Humility. This sunnah cannot be overemphasised.
The incident of Taif is before each of us where the Holy Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam was treated so badly that His Blessed Slippers were clogged with His Pure and Clean Blood. In those three days the Best of Creation was humiliated and abused by the urchins of Taif and by the men of Taif and by the Women.
And when Hadrat Jibraeel alayhis salaam came and offered the destruction of the town - may me and my parents be sacrificed upon the Holy Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam - His response was pure act of mercy, of forgiveness and of humility.
Similar is the Conquest of Makkah. On that occasion the Holy Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam returned to the city of His birth and childhood, the city of His Father and Grandfather, He salallahu alayhi wa sallam returned to the city of His tribe and to the people who caused Him so much trouble. These were the people who called Him a liar, a madman and a magician - ma'aadhallah. These were the people who banished Banu Hashim to the desert for the Year of Sorrow. What had these people not done to the Holy Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam? Even to the extent that He salallahu alayhi wa sallam had to leave the Holy Ka'bah and the Holy Haram in secrecy in the night with only Sayyidina Abu Bakr as His companion.
The Holy Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam returned as a conqueror - He had the opportunity to kill whoever He wished but no.
Quote:
Rasulullah and the Muhajireen were overwhelmed at the thought of their Hijrat and now their triumphant return with such splendor and glory of Islam for which they had sacrificed so much for the pleasure of Allah. Rasulullah , moved by the sight of Makkah and by the remembrance of Allah's wahi (revelation), let tears fall from his eyes as he thanked Allah, praised Him, and witnessed that there is no truth and no power except in Allah. So emotional were all these feelings that Rasulullah rode towards the Ka'ba where he performed the 'tawaf (circumambulation) seven times while he was still astride his mount.
Subhanallah. Infact the narrations state that on the Conquest of Makkah Nabi salallahu alayhi wa sallam's head was so low and bowed down as He was mounted on the Beloved Camel - al Qawsa - that His Beautiful Turban was almost touching the helm of his mount.
Further examples of humility at Fatah e Makkah:
Quote:
Certain arch enemies of Islam were pardoned by Rasulullah and they embraced Islam. Hinda the wife of Abu Soofyaan who had disemboweled the martyred body of Hazrat Hamza (R.A.) Rasulullah inspite of the detestable mutilation of the body of Hazrat Hamza (R.A.) forgave her. Hinda when she returned to her house, lavished insults on her private family idol:
'O powerless idol! How mad we all were to rely on thy assistance and help'! And she smashed it to pieces.
Quote:
Habbar bin Aswad had maltreated Hazrat Zainab binte Muhammed (R.A.) when she was leaving Makkah for Madinah. She was far advance in pregnancy and as she was mounting her camel, Habbar ibn Aswad drove the butt end of his lance against her, throwing her to the ground, and eventually causing her death. Fearing deserved punishment, he fled. After hiding for some time he presented himself before Rasulullah and embraced Islam in all sincerity. The wrong was great; the crime was atrocious- but the injury was personal. Pardon was unconditionally granted.
Wahshi al Habashi (R.A.), the slayer of Hazrat Hamza (R.A.) was pardoned after embracing Islam.
SubhanALLAH. The Holy Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam forgave the lady who mutiliated the body of Sayyidina Hamza radhiyallahu anh, He salallahu alayhi wa sallam forgave the one who martyred Sayyidina Hamza radhiyallahu anh. But even greater than this - Sayyidina Rasulullahi salallahu alayhi wa sallam forgave his kinsmen who attacked His Expectant Daughter which resulted in Her losing Her innocent child and being soo badly injured that She radhiyallahu anha never completely recovered from this wound.
Humility is a most beautiful characteristic of Holy Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam but it is most unfortunate that we have not learnt to act on this sunnah - and I address myself first and foremost. Alhamdulillah, it is relatively easy to adopt external practices of the Holy Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam but to truly follow the sunnah I think it must be adorning both our external AND INTERNAL selves. May ALLAH Most High forgive us and grant us the ability to adopt all of the beloved and illuminated sunnahs of Sayyidina Rasulullah salallahu alayhi wa sallam.

brother i think what you posted is part of an article that i read not very long ago. Obviously they follow the view mariya (ra) was our prophets slave girl. So they will use evidences to support that view and not the other.
I'm not denying any part of the Quran i'm merely saying I have difficulty in swallowing the idea, just as many sisters don't like the idea of polygamy. Those feelings are not sinful.
If Mariya (ra) was a concubine as you say then it could be said it was a sunnah, but since there's no clarity on the issue it's best not to say so isn't it?
Also your reply doesn't address all the other problems i mentioned if she was a slave girl would she be treated just like the other wives with regards to her rights? Also why was she buried in Al Baqi if she was a slave girl?
yash, alhumdulillah i have just asked a scholar the above questions about Maariyah (r.a) today, so i will venture to add a few points:
- the word 'concubine' is not really applicable as it has different (and largely negative) connotations in Western culture. In Islam we have a term for slave girls who give birth to their master's child - 'Umm Walad'. there are special conditions which apply to an Umm Walad as opposed to any other slave - the master can no longer sell her, he must continue to cater for all her and the child's needs, and after he dies, she is free.
- majority of the scholars agree that Maariyah (r.a) had the status of 'Umm Walad'.
- who said Muslim slaves were not buried in Jannatul Baqi? i have never heard this suggested before... and even if this was the case, it would not have applied to Maariyah (r.a) as she was Umm Walad, having given birth to the Prophet (s.a.w)'s son Ibrahim (r.a), who the Prophet (s.a.w) was extremely fond of - y wouldnt the sahaba show equal respect (if not more!) to the mother of the Prophet (s.a.w)'s son?
- the sheikh said that often we try to take things from Islam and make them more palatable, but if we feel the need to change Islam, it in fact means we need to change ourselves. it is understandable that growing up in the West there will always be a conflict in our minds over certain matters, and we should be striving against these conflicts, but there may come a point where we have to say 'Allah knows best' and leave it at that.
- as u said, we cannot deny anything in the Quran, yet many scholars shy away from addressing the ayaat in the quran pertaining to this issue... :?

I was not aware that concubine had negative meaning? And yes Umm Walad does sound better.
According to what I have learnt the entire seerah is meant to be a guide for us and the marital life of the Holy Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam is ofcourse a very important part of this.
For example: we know that among the Arabs once they called a person their son they believed that he really was a son and his wife was haraam upon the "father". This was shown to be untrue when Holy Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam married His Cousin-Sister Sayyidatuna Zaynab bint Jahsh after she was divorced from the Sahabi Sayyidina Zayd who was called widely the son of Muhammad salallahu alayhi wa sallam.
Similarly perhaps it may have been that knowing people might question or make doubt on the permissibility of having slave-girls and having relations with them we have before us the beautiful Seerah where the only Lady to carry the Holy Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam's offspring in Her Womb after Sayyidituna Khadija was the slave-girl of Nubuwwat - Sayyidatuna Maariyah radhiyallahu anhum ajmaeen.
If there is doubt on the status of Sayyida Maariyah then alhamdulillah - as stated above - I have quoted that according to narrations Holy Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam had 4 slave-girls.
Also it should be noted that Sayyidina Ali radhiyallahu anh was famous for having many slave-girls and also Sayyidina Hassan radhiyallahu anh.
