Prayer - why bother?

Hey, loads of people say that I should pray and that its good but why should I pray???????????????????
What do you get out of prayer???????????????????????

what kind of guestion is that? prayer is an obligation...you do know what that is right...

-Become who you were born to be-

Prayer gives you inner peace and tranquility. Try it. It gives you a chance to repent and brings you closer to Allah(swt). It makes man (or woman) get into a daily routine and helps to avoid committing sin.

Prayer alongside your brothers in the mosque and it brings peace and love in the community.

The media, government, tried to blow us, but they can't out the flame, or doubt the name.

Dont bother then

your choice

The Lover is ever drunk with love;
He is free, he is mad,
He dances with ecstasy and delight.

Caught by our own thoughts,
We worry about every little thing,
But once we get drunk on that love,
Whatever will be, will be.

thats nice...

there are many benefits of salaah

part of the shahadah is a declaration to submit to the will of allah , and allah enjoined salaah as part of the five pillars of islam.

"Giving up prayer is tantamount to disbelief and associating partners with Allah." (Muslim)

tiz allahs command.

simple answer...you get an entry into junnat(heaven)
if you dont prayer into hell you go
and BURN,BURN,BURN evil evil evil evil evil evil

There’re many benefits of reading Salaah.

It brings noor (light) to your heart, soul and face.

Doing wudu (ablution) washes away sins.

It’s your opportunity to have a direct conversation with Allah (swt).

If read properly it keeps you away from sins

Its “food” for our soul.

If one fulfils the rights of prayer they receive an increase in Rizq (livelihood), and have barkat (blessings) in their speech. Furthermore, whenever such an individual asks for something from his Creator his supplication will be answered immediately.

It teaches us discipline and increases our Taqwa (God consciousness).

It increases love in our heart for our Creator.

Allah (swt) has said “Remember Me and I’ll remember you”….so if we do His dhikr, Allah (swt) will do our dhikr.

It differentiates us from non Muslims.

And..I’m sure there’re many more benefits.

Salam

why bother?

Last year some female students from Canada put exactly the same question to me.

I said to them:

You dont have to pray if you dont want to.

What I mean is that if you feel you dont really need God and you can do fine without Him then yeah why pray to Him.

However, if you feel that you need God and sometimes He can come in handy, then you do have to pray.

Omrow

well done omrow -give yourself a clap

not only did you not tell her of all the benefits of praying and punishments for not praying , you allowed her to think it is ok not to pray

you let her win the argument, you missed out on teaching someone about islam and she will go hell now , hope your happy with yourself evil

what do you mean by god will come in 'handy' evil

omrow think about what you say , you making yourself sound idotic

we pray cos we NEED God

those who feel that they dont need God shudnt bother

but who are we to determine if we need god or not
prayer is obligatory its the pillar of islam
we should pray no matter what
irrespective of weather we think we need god or not
for if god is not on your side surely the devil is

i dont think i quite understand you there.....

We dont pray coz we need god, but we pray to please god

and those who dont pray dont pray coz they dont need god....coz they are ignorent of the commands.

Its not about needing is it but for pleasing.?

excellent point naj it is for pleasing
should not be about need

I know people who dont read jummah namaz and back it up by saying whats the point or so and so does it and he is like this

i never say well if you dont feel the need to pray to god then dont, but i rather tell them we have no choice but to pray, to save ourselfs from hell, to please god, cleanse our soul, the list is endless

when you think about prayer there is only positives you can say about it and no negatives

you abstain from sin
get closer to god
stay clean
good exercise
ect... the list is endless

I dont read 5 times a day i never try to justify it but admit im wrong and need to repent... guest try reading namaz you get an unexplainable feeling of happiness, i presume this is your soul being cleanse

true there are no negatives in namaz and no ifs and buts....

reminds me of a line in a nasheed... it goes in urdu :

''milta hai kya namaz may tu sajaday mai ja kay daikh''

Guest if you want to know what you get outta prayer you need to prostrate as in pray to find out like Raf mentioned.

Tiz really a sign of weak imaan for those who have abandoned the prayer.

Salaam All,

Can anyone post a nice poem, verse, prose to help Muslim brothers and sisters to remain steadfast in their duties of salah, inshallah...

Jazakallah
Muslimah

I received nothing I wanted
I received everything I needed.
My Prayer has been answered.

I would truly appreciate if someone also posted relevant hadiths if possible on why and how to remain steadfast in salah, inshallah.
Once again many thanks.

Valid point.

If one doesnt listen to God (i.e. obeys His commands) and feels that they don't need Him then why should He listen to us in times of need?

I dont understand that.....so you should just pray when you feel the need ?

people dont listen to ALLAHS command but still feel the need for him...it cant be that those who dont go by the commands as in miss salah dont need him.

You should pray at all times, not just in times of need.

My point was, if one doesnt listen to God then they shouldnt expect Him to listen to us.

Salam

What would you think of a person who admits that he
doesn't really have any need of God, and then he goes and prays to God !!

Why bother !

Such a person ought to first make up his mind about His Creator.

Thats the message I gave to the Canadians.

My point was, if one doesnt listen to God then they shouldnt expect Him to listen to us.

I thought God was merciful and would always listen to us , have you heard the saying 'take one step towards allah and allah takes 10 steps towards you',

even though someone doesnt obey the rules of allah they should still expect God to listen, otherwise people will think
'why should i pray if god wont listen to me'

even if someone is a drug dealer when they turn to prayer god will still listen to them

It’s up to God whom He chooses to listen to.

One should never despair of the Mercy of Allah (swt).

However, due to obvious reasons the prayer of a pious person is more likely to be accepted than the one who sins day and night.

It is also said that when one rejects help and companionship from ALLAH,

ALLAH also rejects this persons friendship, thus his friends will become temptation and shaitaan....

As a result he will be neglected of ALLAHS help and guardianship.

p.s raf why arent your quotes working ?
