I’ve been reading the Beslan thread with great interest, and although it saddens me when Muslim views are polarized, whenever the plight of the Chechens are mention- all rational arguments are debunk with the terrible events of Beslan. Not always 100 percent true though.

It bends and manipulates peoples mind, to help them win support for invasions.

The goverment controls and filters what the news says. Most of the important information they leave out and is mostly a one sided view.

In one instance the BBC leader who controls the BBC news asked Tony Blair directly as to what they should include about a particular story about the war on terror and he replied "put in what you want'

Basically make it up, say what you want, and people believe this. This is a well known fact.

Udugov, who heads the rebels' information service, was using a casualty figure for the 11-year Chechen war several times higher than most estimates, although observers agree that savagery on both sides has killed thousands of civilians.

"Their chosen path could once again push the Islamic movement into a political dead end and ideological degeneration. In the end, Hamas risks becoming another Yasser Arafat," Udugov said, referring to the former Palestinian leader whose administration was widely criticised as corrupt.

Russia has said it will press Hamas to accept the "road map" which seeks to achieve Israeli-Palestinian coexistence and says Hamas must recognise the Israel and renounce violence.

Udugov, who represents the wing of the Chechen rebels that has conducted the worst attacks on civilians of the war, said Hamas was naive to think that the friendship of President Vladimir Putin could give the movement recognition.

"It is naive to expect that Putin's Russia can be some kind of political partner for the Palestinian people. It is not the communist party that now sits in the Kremlin, but people who have committed appalling crimes," he said.

Akhmed Zakayev, who lives in London and represents the separatists' less radical wing, said the visit showed that Hamas did not care about the cause of fellow Muslims in Chechnya.

"People justifying the murder of the Chechen people could in no way be seen as friends or comrades of the Chechens," he said in comments on another rebel Web site

Hamas are the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The MB has always been pragmatic in their approach.

They accepted support from Saddam Hussein to fight Assad in Syria even though both countries were ruled by the same anti-islam Baathist ideology.

Plus the MB tend to be quite Arab-centric.

Exactly bro - this wouldnt have happened under the leadership of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin.

I think the new Palestinian leadership have lost it.

We are all sinners. Personally I dnt think Im in a position to say anything abt Shaheed Shaykh Ahmad Yaseen, or Shaheed Abdel Azeez Rantissi, or Jenab Khalid Misha'al Sahib.

Akhmed Zakayev, a Chechen rebel envoy in Britain, said if confirmed, the killing of Basayev "will in no way" change the situation in Chechnya.

"As long as a mutually-acceptable relationship has not been established between Russia and Chechnya, there cannot be a lasting peace," Mr Zakayev told Russia's Ekho Moskvy radio station.

The BBC's Damian Grammaticas in Moscow says Basayev has been top of Russia's most-wanted list for a long time.

Mr Patrushev was shown on Russian television briefing President Putin on the killing of Basayev.

The FSB chief said he was among a group of militants killed as they prepared to carry out a "terrorist act" in Ingushetia, which borders on Chechnya.

"This was made possible because of our operations abroad, primarily in countries where weapons were obtained and then sent on to Russia, where the terrorism was carried out," he told Mr Putin.

The Russian president said "this is the revenge the bandits deserve for our children in Beslan, for Budyonnovsk, for all the acts of terrorism they have committed in Moscow and in other regions of the Russian Federation, including Ingushetia and the Chechen Republic".

He announced awards for the Russian special forces involved.

Earlier on Monday, Russian media reported that a truck packed with explosives had blown up during a "special operation" against militants near the village of Yekazhevo in Ingushetia. Four militants were reported killed in the incident.

Ingush Deputy Prime Minister Bashir Aushev, responsible for security, said experts had identified Basayev from the body parts.

"All his distinguishing features were found," Interfax news agency quoted him as saying.

He said there were no casualties among Russian security forces, but two civilians were injured in the operation.

Russia had previously offered a reward of $10m (£6m) for the capture of Basayev.

He claimed responsibility for masterminding the Beslan raid, but blamed the children's deaths on Russian forces, who stormed the school to end the siege.

Basayev led the first mass hostage-taking by Chechen rebels - in the southern Russian town of Budyonnovsk in 1995. He also claimed to have organised the assault on a Moscow theatre in 2002, during which 129 people died.

He was a key commander of the resistance after Russian forces invaded Chechnya at the end of 1994.

When Russia was forced to withdraw its forces after the first Chechen war ended in 1996, Basayev stood for president, but came second to Aslan Maskhadov - the more moderate separatist leader killed by Russian troops in March 2005.

Basayev also served briefly as prime minister in the self-proclaimed independent Chechen republic of Ichkeria in 1997.
