THE SUPPLICATION OF A FEMALE DEVOTEE OF ALLAH
Hadhrat Zunnun Misri (rahmatullahi alayh) narrates: "Once while wandering in the desert I heard a voice supplicating: ‘O Thou of Boundless Bounties! O Thou of Boundless Generosity! O Thou, The Eternal one! Strengthen the gaze of my heart with immersion in Your bewilderment. Permeate my resolve with Your Sublimity. O Thou of Boundless Munificence! Save me with Your Splendour from the paths of the proud and rebellious. Keep me as Your slave in both hardship and comfort. O Thou Who has brightened my heart! O Thou Who are my True Goal! only You be with me in my resolve.’
Hearing this wonderful supplication, I went in the direction of the voice. Soon I came upon a woman who was like a burnt out coal, having been consumed by the fire of Divine Love. Allah’s Love had melted her body. She was as lean as a rake. She was wearing a woollen dress and a scarf (orni) of mohair. I said:
‘Assalaamualaiki!’ She replied: ‘Wa Alaikumus Salaam, O Zunnun!’. In surprise I said: ‘Laailaaha illallah! How do you know my name? Until today you have never met me.’
She said: ‘Zunnun! My True Beloved has removed the veils of mysteries from me. He has eliminated the blindness of the heart. I therefore know your name’."
Hadhrat Zunnun then continues: "Repeat your supplication."
The woman said: "O Thou of Glitter and Brightness! Remove from me the evil of what I am perceiving. I am fearful of this life."
A few moments later she fell down dead. While I stood there bewildered and confused, an old woman appeared. Looking at the face of the dead young woman she exclaimed: ‘All Praises are due to Allah, Who has ennobled her.’
I asked: ‘Who are you and who is she?’
The old woman replied: ‘My name is Zahra Walihaanah. She is my daughter. She has been in this state of Divine Love for twenty years. People thought she was mad. But, the Love of Allah had reduced her to this condition.’"
Subhaanallah! A poet has beautifully described such people:
"They say! Love of your beloved has driven you to insanity.
The pleasure of life is known to only the insane."

THE POOR AND THE WEALTHY
Hadhrat Abu Darda (radhiallahu anhu) said: "The wealthy eat and we (the Fuqaraa) also eat. They wear garments and so do we. Neither do they derive benefit from the excess wealth (which they hoard) nor do we gain any benefit (from their excess wealth). on the Day of Qiyaamah, an account will be demanded from them of this wealth, but not from us. Our wealthy brethren have not acted justly. While they love us (or claim so) for Allah’s Sake, they do not include us in their wealth. Such a day will dawn when they will wish that on earth they had been Fuqaraa, while we will not wish that we should have been wealthy."

HAATIM ASAM’S ENCOUNTER WITH AN AALIM
Hadhrat Haatim Asam (rahmatullahi alayh) once, on his way to Hajj, passed through the city of Rai. Three hundred and twenty Sufis were accompanying him. A prominent and leading trader of the city, who was a devotee of the Fuqaraa and Masaakeen invited the entire group to be his guests. In the morning he said to Hadhrat Haatim: “An Aalim, Faqeeh here is ill. I am going to visit him. Will you accompany me?” Hadhrat Haatim said: “Visiting the sick is an act of thawaab. Furthermore, to visit an Aalim, is ibaadat. I shall certainly go with you.”
The name of the Aalim was Muhammad Bin Muqaatil. He was the Qaadhi of Rai. The entire group went to the house of the Qaadhi. On arrival there, Hadhrat Haatim observed a palatial mansion. It had a large ornamental door. Large and expensive curtains decorated the place. Seeing all the luxury and adornment of the mansion, Hadhrat Haatim was perplexed and astonished. He thought: “O Allah! An Aalim and such pomp and splendour.”
When permission for admission was obtained, he was even more surprised at the splendour and glitter of the interior of the mansion. When he came into the presence of the Qaadhi, he observed the extreme luxury of the carpets and the bed on which the Qaadhi was resting. At the head-side a servant was standing with a fan in his hand.
The trader on reaching the Qaadhi’s presence, sat down. But Hadhrat Haatim remained standing. Qaadhi Ibn Muqaatil indicated to Hadhrat Haatim to sit down. However, he remained standing. The Qaadhi said: “Perhaps you have a need?”
Hadhrat Haatim said: “I wish to enquire about a mas`alah.”
The Qaadhi responded: “Ask!”
Hadhrat Haatim: “First, sit up!”
The Qaadhi complied and sat respectfully.
Hadhrat Haatim: “Where have you acquired your knowledge?”
Qaadhi: “I have acquired it from illustrious and reliable Thiqaat (authorities of the Deen).”
Hadhrat Haatim: “What are their names?”
Qaadhi: “The As-haab of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam).” The Qaadhi was a Tabi`ee.
Hadhrat Haatim: “From whom did the Sahaabah gain their knowledge?”
Qaadhi: “From Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam).”
Hadhrat Haatim: “From who did Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) obtain his knowledge?”
Qaadhi: “From Jibraeel (alayhis salaam).”
Hadhrat Haatim: “And Jibraeel (alayhis salaam)?”
Qaadhi: “From Allah Ta`ala.”
Hadhrat Haatim: “In that knowledge which Jibraeel (alayhis salaam) delivered to Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) from Allah Ta`ala, and which Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) delivered to the Sahaabah and they in turn to the Thiqaat who delivered it to you, did you see anywhere that a wealthy man enjoying pomp, splendour and possessing palatial mansions is a man of lofty status by Allah Ta`ala?”
Qaadhi: “No, I have not read this.”
Hadhrat Haatim: “What then have you learnt?”
Qaadhi: “I have heard from my Shuyookh that a man who lives like a Zaahid on earth, yearns for the Aakhirah and befriends the Masaakeen, he, holds a very elevated rank by Allah Ta`ala.”
Hadhrat Haatim: “Whom have you followed? Have you followed Nabi (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) and his Sahaabah or Fir`oun and Hamaan? O Ulama of evil practice! Ignorant people engrossed in the world go astray by looking at men like you and they comment: ‘ If an Aalim can live like this, then what wrong are we committing?’”
Hadhrat Haatim (rahmatullahi alayh) after delivering this reprimand and admonition departed. Qaadhi Ibn Muqaatil having heard this sharp rebuke became more ill.
Subhaanallah! After all, he (the Qaadhi) was among the Salf-e-Saaliheen. Even the wealthy and the rulers of that age were not inferior to the Zaahideen of our age.

A sheikh was in a ship with his Mureed (followers) and he saw some people drinking alcohol, singing and dancing,
His Mureeds (followers) became angry and told their Sheikh to make dua to Allah (swt) that they perish.
The Sheikh raised his hands in a Dua (prayer) and said ‘May Allah (swt) keep these people as happy in the next world as they are in this world’.
His Mureeds (followers) were surprised at such a prayer and asked their Sheikh why he prayed for their happiness.
The Sheikh told them that there is hidden wisdom behind his Dua because these people will only gain happiness and eternal bliss in the next world after they repent and give up their bad deeds in his world…

The passing of khilafah to Hadrat Shaykh ul Hadeeth, Mawlana Muhammaz Zakariyyah Kandhlawi alayhi rahmah:
In 1344 Hadhrat Saharanpْri had gone to Hijaaz. Hadhrat Shaikh too had accompanied him. Every time that Hadhrat Saharanpْri went on the journey to Hijaaz he expressed the yearning and hope of being assigned to the sand of Jannatul Baqi’. Thus, the journey of 1344 was his last. In 1346 he was buried in the sand at Jannatul Baqi’.
Hadhrat Shaikh had returned to Hindustan while Hadhrat Saharanpْri was still alive. Before Hadhrat Shaikh left Madinah Tayyibah to return, Hadhrat Saharanpْri conferred on him the mantle of Khilaafate in all four Silsilahs in elaborate style. Hadhrat Saharanpْri removed his amaamah (turban) from his head. Handing it to Maulana Sayyid Ahmad, the elder brother of Hadhrat Aqdas Madani, Hadhrat Saharanpْri requested him to tie it on Hadhrat Zakariyyah’s head. At that moment people were loudly sobbing on account of Hadhrat Saharanpْri’s profuse crying. Hadhrat Shaikh also shed tears.
Hadhrat Shah Abdul Qadir Raipْri was present on this occasion. For fear of this episode being publicised in Hindustan, Hadhrat Shaikh fell at the feet of Hadhrat Raipْri imploring him not to inform anyone in Hindustan. But, Hadhrat Raipْri was not prepared to conceal this episode. He publicised the appointment and its method in Hindustan. Then too, Hadhrat Shaikh refused to accept anyone in bay’t for a long time. He would refer those who came with the intention of bay’t, to other Masha-ikh. Finally, on the instruction of Hadhrat Maulana Muhammad Ilyas, he initiated the process of bay’t which occurred in the following way:
Once Hadhrat Maulana Muhammad Ilyas and Hadhrat Shaikh went to Kandhlah to visit relatives and friends. On reaching Kandhlah, the womenfolk of the house insisted in Hadhrat Maulana Ilyas to instruct Hadhrat Shaikh to accept them all in his bay’t. He sent someone to the neighbourhood Musjid to call Hadhrat Shaikh. When he reached home, he sensed the anger of Hadhrat Maulana Ilyas. He also observed the womenfolk of the home had assembled. Hadhrat Maulana was sitting on a bed while the other bed was vacant. Hadhrat Maulana removed his amaamah and gave one end into Hadhrat Shaikh’s hand and the other end he passed to the ladies. Then very sharply he commanded: “Take them into your bay’t.” When Hadhrat Shaikh mumbled some excuse, Hadhrat Maulana scolded him and ordered him for the second time: “Quickly initiate them.” This, then was the commencement of Hadhrat Shaikh’s process of initiating mureeds.

Naseehah from Hadrat Shaykh ul Hadeeth:
Abstain from adopting the dress and appearance of aliens (i.e. non-Muslims). We Muslims should adopt the Islamic dress-style of our Masha-ikh. Ten or fifteen years ago it was my fatwa that people wearing tight-fitting garments should stand in the last saff.
One great scholar worthy of mention is, Kutubal Aktaab Hadhrat Sheikhul Hadith Maulana Muhammad Zakariya Sahib Muhaajir Madni (Rahmatullahi alaihi).
To get a better insight of the status of Hadhrat Sheikh (Rahmatullahi alaihi) a few Stories relating to Hadhrat Sheikh (Rahmatullahi alaihi) are presented from Subulas Salaam (Volume 2 Edition 11 & 12), compiled by Hadhrat Maulana Yusuf Motala Sahib (Damat Barakatuhum).
1. The early days in life are normally spent in ignorance and playing pursuits whereas the fate of the future lies solely on the upbringing of the childhood. Hadhrat Sheikh (Rahmatullahi alaihi) had spent this part of his life in Saharanpur with such solitude and loneliness for seeking knowledge that he says, "In those days my stay with my father was in Madrasah Qadeem. Once my shoes were lost or stolen but for six months there was no need for new ones, because for lavatory use there were always old shoes that were left behind, and for six months I had no need to go outside the doors of Madrasah Qadeem."
It must be borne in mind that Madrasah Qadeem is not the name of such a large building but only consists of one small Masjid, a library and five or six rooms.
2. During the final year of studying Hadith Hadhrat's age was about seventeen to eighteen years Even at that age Hadhrat's respect towards Hadith was to such an extent that Hadhrat Sheik had arranged with one of his colleagues that they will not read any Hadith without wudhu, and that they will read all the Ahadith in front of the Ustaz (teacher). But to show this piety in front of the Ustaz was contrary to the Qur'aanic verse, 'Therefore ascribe not purity unto yourselves'. Therefore, if any of the two wanted to go to make ablution the other one, who would be present in the lesson, would question the Ustaz about the lesson or make an objection of some kind regarding the lesson until the fellow colleague would return, and then the lesson would proceed.
3. Hadhrat's state of reciting Qur'aan and offering salaah was such that in the holy month of Ramadhan, during his later years, he would spend two hours in tahajjud, three hours in chasht, one hour in awwabeen in other words he used to spend six hours in optional salaah. He used to recite Qur'aan during the months other than Ramadhan to such an extent that he had made a habit of reciting ten parahs (chapters) of the Holy Qur'aan daily inspite of all the religious and domestic duties which he had to carry out. Every third day it would be written in the daily diary, "Completed one Qur'aan," and sometimes he would write, "Completed it on behalf of so and so."
Once Hadhrat (Rahmatullahi alaihi) exclaimed, "We three collegues once pondered about Hadhrat Imam Abu Hanifah that he used to complete one Qur'aan during the day and one during the night in the holy month of Ramadhan. So we thought that we should spend one Ramadhan like this also. Hence, one colleague completed the Qur'aan fifty six times in the holy month of Ramadhan." Most probably the colleague would be refering to Hadhrat (Rahmatullahi alaihi) himself.
4. The first time Hadhrat (Rahmatullahi alaihi) came to Britain he travelled by the British Airways aircraft which used to take about six hours non-stop from Jeddah to London. Hadhrat, as usual, had not eaten before the flight, so that the chance of going to the lavatory would not occur during the flight, but within three hours he needed to go so he asked, "How many hours are left to reach London?"
Someone answered, "Three hours."
Hadhrat (Rahmatullahi alaihi) was afraid of getting dizzy by going to the lavatory during the flight, and we were also worried about it.
At that moment the captain made an announcement.
Hadhrat (Rahmatullahi alaihi) asked, "What did he say?"
We said, "An announcement is being made that the flight was scheduled to reach London without any stops but there has been a message from an airport in Italy to pick up the travellers who are at the airport because of a strike, therefore we are having to make a constraint landing."
Hearing this Hadhrat (Rahmatullahi alaihi) smiled. After the landing he went to the lavatory and only when he came back did the aircraft resume to its destination.
5. Similarly when Hadhrat (Rahmatullahi alaihi) travelled to Britain for the second time, the plane was supposed to travel direct from Zambia to London, leaving Zambia at eight in the evening and arriving at London at seven in the morning.
Hearing the schedule Hadhrat (Rahmatullahi alaihi) had already said that it will be hard to keep wudhu continuously in the plane for so many hours, especially as it is at night and to perform istinja and ablution in the plane will not be easy.
At four 0' clock Hadhrat (Rahmatullahi alaihi) asked, "Is it Subah Sadiq yet?"
We replied, "It will be soon."
Hadhrat (Rahmatullahi alaihi) asked, "What will become of ablution and offering salaah?" While we were still engaged in our talks, an announcement was made that because the air traffic is at an extreme at London Airport, we will have to circle around London for some time, and we have only taken enough fuel to reach London. In order to circle above London we are in need of refuelling, therefore we are landing at an airport in Tunisia."
Hadhrat (Rahmatullahi alaihi) asked, "What did he say?" A detailed explanation regarding the announcement was given. Hearing this, Hadhrat (Rahmatullahi alaihi) said with a smile, "Alhamdu lillah, Allah has made an arrangement for our salaah. Hence, after the plane landed, Hadhrat (Rahmatullahi alaihi) was helped to perform istinja and ablution, and then he offered salaah. The rest of the group also offered their salaah in congregation.
6. At Hadhrat Sheikh's (Rahmatullahi alaihi) gatherings, there were always these words being uttered from the lips of every person present, "0' Allah keep my faults concealed," because whenever any of the assistants would approach Hadhrat (Rahmatullahi alaihi) with his mind elsewhere, Hadhrat (Rahmatullahi alaihi) would say these couplets in a melodic way,".................0' Naseem! Tell me. You' ve joint your eyes with mine, but where is your heart."
7. The most wondrous thing about our noble scholars was their following of the customs of our Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam). Hadhrat's (Rahmatullahi alaihi) part of life in this field was so vast that thousands of pages could be written on it. Sufi Muhammad Iqbal Sahib had started writing about Hadhrat Shiekh (Rahmatullahi alaihi) during Hadhrat's lifetime and named it ‘Hadhrat Sheikh and his following of the sunnah’.
8. Hadhrat's obedience to the Qur'aanic verse, 'Therefore ascribe not purity unto yourselves. He is best aware of him who wardeth off (evil),' was to such an extent that during his stay at Darul Uloom the annual jalsah was taking place, speeches were being made and it could be heard till Hadhrat's room that someone said, "All this is the outcome of Hadhrat's duas and his inclination."
Hearing this Hadhrat (Rahmatullahi alaihi) started crying and said, "Have you not read in the hadith that Allah Most High aids this religion (of Islam) even through a sinful person."
Whenever Hadhrat (Rahmatullahi alaihi) would see a dog barking at Saharanpur he would say, "0' bhai (brother), go away. Your bhai (myself) is enough here."
9. After the burial of Hadhrat Sheikh (Rahmatullahi alaihi) in the graveyard of Jannatul Baqi, we returned to Madrasah-e-Shar'iyyah where we were staying. Hadhrat Maulana Zakariya's (Rahmatullahi alaihi) disciple and son Hadhrat Maulana Talha Sahib was with the devotees and the mourners. His clothes were covered with soil, which remained on his clothes and body after descending into the grave to lay Hadhrat Sheikh (Rahmatullahi alaihi). There was an extraordinary scent in the room. We thought that some visitor may have applied some sort of fragrance before entering the house, but we were all astonished when Maulana Talha Sahib left the room to change his clothes and at the same time the fragrance faded away.
When Maulana Talha Sahib went upstairs to meet his mother and the rest of the family, this fragrance was also perceived there and when the traces of soil on Hadhrat Maulana Talha's clothes were smelt, it became apparent that it was emitting this scent. So this pair of clothes was preserved with the soil as relics.
A few days later I went to my friend Ustaz Muhammad Yakub Dehlawi's house and the previous event came into discussion. Hearing this he got up quickly and brought his brother Abdullah Dehlawi's thawb (Arabian garment) and requested me to smell it, I noticed the same fragrance as the one in the clothes of Hadhrat Maulana Talha Sahib.
At that time Hadhrat Muhammad Yakub Sahib said, "At the time of the burial of Hadhrat Sheikh (Rahmatullahi alaihi) my brother was in the company of Hadhrat Maulana Talha Sahib. After the burial, when he reached home, the house was scented with a sweet smell. Everyone was curious of this smell. After an investigation we discovered that this smell was being emitted from the soil which had set in this cloth. Thereafter, this cloth was kept as a relic and till today that very fragrance is still in it.
(P.S. The same is told about the grave of Imam Bukhari (Rahmatullahi alaihi) that after his burial a Sweet smell would come from his grave. People started taking the soil. Gradually a ditch was formed. Therefore, more soil was put into the grave but the same happened. The grave was filled with soil again and the same happened. Hence, after the third time a saint made dua at the grave after which the fragrance faded away

ALLAH!
Some of the incidents in Hadrat Shaykhs life bring tears to the eyes and others make you laff.
Three of the big Hadrats of India, Hadrat Madani, Hadrat Raipuri and Shaykh ul Hadeeth proceeded to visit the Daughter of Hadrat Gangohi. While there the son of Daughter of Hadrat Gangohi, Chacha Yakub, began to bring food down from the ladies quarters.
First Chacha brought the rotis and left to bring the curry. Whilst he was away one of the three said to the other two that lets eat up these rotis before he comes with the curry. When Chacha came with the curry, he noticed that the rotis were finished and returned upstairs to bring more roti. Meanwhile the three guests - Hadrat Madani, Hadrat Raipuri, Shaykh Ul Hadeeth - ate up the curry. Again Chacha returned and saw that now the curry is finished. He went back up again to tell his mother; Daughter of Hadrat Gangohi came down, standing behind the door she called out to the three:
"They call you the three big Hadrats but it seems childishness is still in you!"
I found that incident soo funny. MashaALLAH may ALLAH bless the ulama and make them our leaders and our guides ameen.
He was born in 786 A.D., in Egypt. His real name was Sauban bin Ibrahim, and Zunnun was his title, and because he was from Egypt, that's why he was called Misri (Egyptian). He was the Imam of Silsila Qalandariya (Qalandariya Sufi Order). He wandered whole life in the desert. He travelled all around Arabia to see the signs of God.
Because Hazrat Zunnun Misri was very down-to-earth & didn't like to expose his abilities, so many of his life's aspects remained hidden.
Before entering into Sufism, he came to know about a young dervish, and he went to meet him. When he reached to him, he saw that the young dervish is hanging upside down on a tree and continuously saying to his Ego : "Until you would not come to my side to pray God & worhsip Him, I will continue to punish you, until you die." After watching that, Zunnun started to cry. The dervish asked him about the reason of his crying. He said: "I thought that you've killed some one, that's why you are punishing yourself like that." After talking some time with him, that young dervish told him to go to a mountain where a dervish is staying, he should meet him. Zunnun went there and saw that a dervish is sitting there & his one leg was cut offed and lying near him, his whole body was full of worms. Zunnun asked him that how did he lose his leg? He replied: "Once I was busy to worship God, suddenly I saw a beautiful woman passing through before me, I felt attraction towards her & starred at her with bad intention, when I was doing so, I heard the Divine voice: 'O shameless! After 30 years of worshipping Me, now you are going to worship Satan', After hearing that I cut offed my leg, because this leg went first towards that woman." That dervish also told Zunnun about some other dervish, who was living at the top of that mountain, but beause it was impossible to climb over the mountain to go to the top, so the dervish told Zunnun about story of that dervish. He said: "That dervish once sweared that he will never eat anything from the hands of humans, so for some days he didn't eat anything, later God sent some bees to him, who regularly provide him honey. He is living by eating honey since then."
After hearing those strange stories, Zunnun felt a great change in his inner-self, he gave up the materialism, and started to pray & worship whole day. Later he left the city & went to jungles & deserts. People later turned against him by accusing him to be heretic. And they complained to the ruler, who sent him to the prison for forty days. During the prison, he never ate anything.
Once he saw a fire-worshipper, who was throwing grains on the floor, so that the birds would eat them. Later during pilgrimage, he saw the same person who was performing Hajj in Ka'ba. Zunnun asked God: "He worshipped fire for 40 years, why did you give him such a geat gift (Islam) for his one small good dead?" He heard the Divine voice: "I do what I like, and no one has right to interfere in my matters."
Hazrat Zunnun, on one occasion said: "The Arif (Gnostic) is more lowly every day, because he is approaching nearer to his Lord every moment, as much as he thereby becomes aware of the awfulness of the Divine Omnipotence, and when the majesty of God has taken possession of his heart, he sees how far he is from God and that there is no way of reaching Him; hence his lowliness is increased. Thus Musa (Moses) said, when he conversed with God: "O Lord, where shall I seek Thee?" God answered: "Among those whose hearts are broken." Musa (Moses) said: "O Lord, no heart is more broken and despairing than mine." God answered: "Then, I am where thou art." Accordingly, anyone who pretends to know God without lowliness and fear is an ignorant fool, not an Arif (Gnostic).
A person visited Hazrat Zunnun Misri and complained that since last forty years he had been performing tough spiritual contemplations, meditated regularly, performed pilgrimage every year, slept less, prayed all the time, but still he dosn't feel any spiritual success. And that, now he is very much disappointed. Hazrat Zunnun told him that today he should eat as much as he can, and should avoid to perform any kind of pray or spiritual contemplation. When that person slept at night after doing so, the Holy Prophet came into his dream & said that he shouldn't be disappointed, God will reciprocate to all of his efforts that he made for Him.
Some one asked him that who is a Sufi? He replied: "A Sufi is that person who gives up the materialism of the world and makes the God his beloved, also God makes him His beloved."
Once he was travelling in a boat with some people, among them there was a rich businessmen who lost his pearl, and accused Hazrat Zunnun of stealing it (As Hazrat Zunnun's physical appearance was like a poor man, with tored cloths, long hair & beard). People in the boat started to beat him, he looked towards the sky & said: "O God! You know everything, you also know that I've never stolen anything." while saying that, many fishes appeared on the surface of the river, each of them was holding a pearl in the mouth. Hazrat Zunnun took one of the pearls & gave it to the businessman. All people in the boat felt ashamed & apologized.
There was a dervish who used to go to a mountain once a year, where many of the sick people having incurable diseases, had been gathering to be healed by him. And he used to heal all of them at once. When Hazrat Zunnun Misri knew about that, he also went to the mountain. When that dervish arrived, and healed all of the patients. Hazrat Zunnun held his hand and said: "You healed physical diseases of them, now heal my inner (spiritual) disease?" The dervish replied: "O Zunnun! Why do you hold other's hand instead of God?"
Zunnun said that the knowledge is that, which a person observes through his eyes; and belief is that, which a person observes through his heart. And there are three signs of beliefs: 1) To see God in everything. 2) To refer God in all of your matters. 3) To seek God's help in all matters.
One day Hazrat Zunnun Misri was sailing with his disciples in a boat on the River Nile, and in the meanwhile another boat was coming up, filled with merry-makers, whose unseemly behaviour so disgusted the disciples that they begged Hazrat Zunnun to implore God to sink the boat. Hazrat Zunnun raised his hands and cried: "O Lord, as Thou hast given these people a pleasant life in this world, give them a pleasant life in the next world too!" The disciples were astonished by his prayer. When the boat came nearer and those in it saw Hazrat Zunnun Misri, they began to weep and asked pardon, and broke their lutes and repented unto God. Hazrat Zunnun said to his disciples: "A pleasant life in the next world is repentance in this world. You and they are all satisfied without harm to anyone." He acted thus from his extreme affection towards the Muslims, following the example of the Holy Prophet Mohammade, who, notwithstanding the ill-treatment which he received from the infidels, never ceased to say: "O God! direct my people, for they know not."
A minister paid a visit to Hazrat Zunnun Misri and asked for his favour, saying: "I am day and night engaged in the service of the sultan (The Ruler) and hoping to be rewarded but nevertheless dread to be punished by him." Hazrat Zunnun wept and said: "If I had feared God, the great and glorious, as you fear the sultan (The Ruler), I would be one of the number of the righteous."
It is said that at the night of his death, seven thousand saints along with the Holy Prophet came to receive the soul of Hazrat Zunnun Misri. And at his funeral the birds of the air gathered above his bier, and wove their wings together so as to shadow it. On seeing this, all the Egyptians felt remorse and repented of the injustice which they had done to him.
He died in 861 A.D., and his tomb is in Baghdad.

I thought I would mention a certain incident from the life of none other than Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani (ra), the leader of all saints!
After seeking permission from his mother and agreeing to her promise that he would be truthful at all times regardless of what happened, Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani (ra) set off in seeking the true path in Baghdad . Prior to this Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani’s (ra) mother had sewn 40 pieces of gold into the armpit of his coat.
As they set off in the caravan they were attacked by a band of highwaymen, they took everything from everyone. When one of them approached Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani (ra) and asked him “what possessions do u hold” and to this Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani (ra) replied “I have forty pieces of gold on me“, the man asked “where” and he said “under my armpit” the man laughed and walked off. Another bandit came and the same thing happened, this repeated incident must have been told to the leader of the bandits, the leader asked Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani (ra) to be brought to him.
He asked Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani’s (ra) what possessions he had and he told him he had forty pieces of gold sewn in his coat under his armpit, the leader took his jacket and tore it up and to his shock saw the gold. The leader asked “when you money was safe, what compelled you to insist on tell telling us that you had it an where it was hidden, Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani (ra) said “I must tell the truth under any circumstances as I promised to my mother”
At this the bandits wept and the chief said “I reneged on my promise to the One Who created me, I stole and killed, what will happen to me?” the other bandits said to him “You have been our leader all these years in sinning. Now be also our leader in repenting” All sixty repented and changed their ways.
That is the just a glimpse of the personality of Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani (ra)

True stories of Saints are highly significant in moral teaching of children.
We cannot tell kids stories about God. He does not come down to do anything.
Children understand the true Nature of God through learning about the words, deeds and morals of God's chosen Saints.
This is why kids who grow up to follow Saints have a better manners and attitude than those who dont.
‘Prophets and Saints are like signs on the road, to guide spiritual travellers who have become lost in the desert.
But those who have attained union with God need nothing but their inner eye and divine lamp of faith, they need no signs or even a road to travel along. Such people then become signs for others"

Well seeing as its flavour of the day...
It is said that once when Mawlana Rumi was a child walking behind his father, who was a high scholar and sufi of his time, a Sufi saw them and said SubhanAllah an ocean is walking behind a lake!
And while we are remembering Allah SWT through His Slaves, a story I really like:
Once Hazrat 'Isa AS saw a person steal a thing and asked him why he stole it?
The person swore by Allah SWT that he had not stolen the thing.
To which Hazrat 'Isa AS replied; "I believe in Allah, I suspect my eyes"
SubhanAllah!

Gentleness and kindness were never a part of anything except that it made it beautiful, and harshness was never a part of anything except that it made it ugly.
Through cheating, stealing, and lying, one may get required results but finally one becomes
And since we’re now speaking about Hadrat Isa (AS)….
Once he was walking with his disciplines and came across the corpse of a dog lying on the street.
His disciples were put off by the putrid odour the dead dog was emitting and made some negative comment and expressed their disgust.
Hadrat Isa (AS) immediately commented on the brilliant whiteness of the dog’s teeth…thus encouraging this disciplines to see the good in everyone and every situation.
He was also once asked where he acquired his knowledge…he told the questioner that all his knowledge was acquired from the ignorant people.
In other words he observed the ignorance and of the ignorant and did NOT do what they did.
The wise man learns from other people’s mistakes whilst the foolish one doesn’t even learn from his mistakes.

mashaALLAH Admin.
That story abt Shaykh Abdul Qaadir Jeelani alayhi rahmah is proper famous. They teach it in urdu medium schools back home aswell.
Theres another story.
When the father of Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jeelani alayhi rahmah was a youth he was walking somewhere and saw an apple lying on the floor. He picked it up and ate it. A while later he felt great guilt over eating the apple without getting the permission of the owner and decided to remedy the situation.
Hadrat went back to where he found the apple, made some investigations as to who the owner was and confessed to him, requesting forgiveness and saying that he would work for the person until his debt was repaid. The owner of the apple orchard - for he owned an orchard - agreed and took the young man into his khidmah.
After a designated time the debt was considered repaid. In tis period the orchard owner was greatly impressed and said to Hadrat: "You have one thing left to do before I forgive you and consider your debt repaid."
Upon enquiry the orchard owner said "I have a daughter who is blind and deaf and dumb. She doesnt walk and hasnt touched. To repay me you must marry this daughter of mine"
SUBHANALLAH!
Hadrat was sincere and remorseful over what he had done and readily agreed to the proposal. The nikah was performed and Hadrat entered the marital chamber. There what he saw astonished him.
His young bride was exquisitely dressed and made beautiful for him, she could see, she could hear and she could speak. Her legs were perfectly functional and her hands could touch and feel. Seeing this Hadrat left the chamber and enquired from his new father-in-law that I was told she was like this and she is like this.
The father in law explained - what I said is true. She has never spoken to a strange man so I said she was dumb, she has never seen a strange man so I said she was blind, she has never heard a strange mans voice so I said she was deaf. My hnourably daughter has never touched a strange man so I said she cant touch, and she has never walked towards a man in her life so I said she cant walk.
SUBHANALLAH.
So many lessons.
The sincerety of Hadrat, the modesty of Hadrat's wife. Ofcourse with such parents the child could not be anything less than a true servant of ALLAH.

Hazrat zunnun Misri

Mawlana Rumi said
‘Prophets and Saints are like signs on the road, to guide spiritual travellers who have become lost in the desert.
But those who have attained union with God need nothing but their inner eye and divine lamp of faith, they need no signs or even a road to travel along. Such people then become signs for others"

Whoa. I would give you a new Mercedes for that quote.
That was truly beautiful. There is Perfection in that statement.
Omrow
That is beautiful (its Maulana Rumi (ra) day today )
The Holy Prophet said "The perfect Shaykh is like a Prophet to his people".
Lol-It should be his day every day.
Omrow you really should buy his Mathanwi. I know you'd love it.
Its written in your style.

Ya ALLAH Madad.
