how can ppl be so shallow? wearing ur best clothes on eid is sunnah. buying new clothes is not established newhere. aiding the muslims when they are in need si a fard.
May ALLAH forgive us for we have become brothers of shaytaan. those who spend beyond what they need are being extravagant and there is no doubt that all this expenditure is accursed. Better to spend your money where its gonna benefit ppl.

Buying new clothes for Eid does not make one "shallow". Nor is it forbidden to spend money on new clothes, and nor does it come under the "extravegence" catergory.
You're assuming that the people who spend money on new clothes do not aid the poor.
This is an incorrect assumption.
And for you're information, the best type of charity is the type that is given secretly. This is why I doubt you'd find people boasting about how much money they have donated to the poor this Ramadan.

Assalamu Alaikum,
Come on Med there's nothing wrong with buying new clothes if you can afford it. Obviously ones best clothes would suffice, but a little pampering on this festive occasion does no harm. What other major occasions do muslims have to celebrate except the two Eids?
I used to be in the habit of getting a new outfit for Eid, because that's how my parents bought me up. They always treated the kids on this occasion, this was our present if you like. But as I've grown up and realised my parents struggle every Eid to get all the kids new clothes, I don't insist upon new ones no more. In fact I don't want new clothes unless I really need them.
This Eid will be the first in my own home, and the novelty of buying new clothes, although permitted has just died away. I've got plenty of clothes I could wear.
Besides we are struggling at the moment and getting anything new isn't something we can afford to do. But it's nice to know I have such a wonderful husband, who offered to buy me something even though he's skint. I declined of course being the nice person I am lol.
Point is if it's affordable then leave them be, let them enjoy Eid with some little gift. For some that gift is clothes, and hanging out with their girly mates. For some it's a nice meal at home with parents. For some it's toys and money. For some it's sweets. But the best gift of all, is time spent with loved ones, and giving thanks to Allah. Gifts increase love between ppl, so giving them is a virtuous act.
P.S I want to buy something for my husband any ideas brothers? Anyone know what gifts our prophet (Saw) exchanged on Eid?

X Box 360 well expensive the whole package like £279.99! You mad I can't even afford that now!
I'm thinking something sentimental that doesn't cost an arm and leg. I can afford more than a tenner cheeky so and so.

Again people have issue with a simple comment. No1 has said its haram to buy new clothes. The sunnah is to wear ur best clothes. Y'knwo ppl today have become too extravagant. If new clothes are needed then buying them for eid is gud, but why spend money wen u got enuf clothes as it is?
wen i was younger we also bought new clothes for eid. Now I just wear the thobe which still looks whitish.
I aint talking about fatwa, im talking abt best mode of action. Follow what you want but I wud say ur money is better spent on the muslims of niger than your ownselves.
As for a gift, I recommend a bottle of itr, Mushk Qasturi number 1 costs I think £20 for a quarter tola. Itr is a good gift.

He does love his itr..a bit of a collector. But he's a snob rarely buys them in the uk, he likes to have them shipped over from saudi..sighs.
Ty for the suggestion I'll keep it in mind.
