Eid is tha day to give thanks to ALLAH. SubhanALLAH, ALLAH our Lord, Creator and Sustainer KNOWS what we are like, thats why the eid day has an extra ibadah in it.
People forget about ALLAH in either happiness or in sadness. Eid being an occasion of joy and happiness, there is likelihood of people gettin to happy and forgetting the boundaries set by ALLAH.
This is perfectly illustrated by the eid namaz. According to some this is a wajib and according to others it is a sunnah muakkadah. But the different thing about these two simple raka'atayn is that they have 6 extra takbeers. One of my old Ustadji's told us in the eid bayan that one of the reasons for the 6 extra takbeers is to serve as a reminder that oh man, even in your moments of joy remain within the limits set by ALLAH and praise HIM in abundance.
It is in this connection, that I urge all brothers and sisters to guard their salah on this day of eid. What is point of reading a salah which is not even wajib according to some ulama and missing the fard salah? I am not pointing at any1. This is a general encouragement. On eid the brothers should attend the masjid for ALL 5 prayers and it will be a sad fact that the masjid will be even empiter than normal because even the normal namazis get taken up by the festive mood. Be happy and enjoy eid but dont neglect ALLAH, brothers attend the jama'ah and women remain in the home and pray in the darkest corners of ur homes.
InshaALLAH, may ALLAH forgive us our sins and make us amongst the obedient. ameen YA Rabbal Alameen

The Fiqh of Eid
13 things are sunnah on the day of Eid ul-Fitr:
1 To adorn oneself according to the Shariah.
2 To have a bath.
3 To use miswaak
4 2wear the best of clothing which one possesses
5 To apply perfume.
6 To wake up very early in the morning
7 To go early to the Eid prayer place
8 To eat something sweet, such as dates, before going to the Eid prayer place.
9 To give the sadaqatul fitr before going to the Eid prayer place.
10 To offer the Eid prayer in the Eid prayer place. That is one should not offer Eid prayer in the masjid without any valid reason
11 To return from the Eid prayer place taking a route that is different from the one that he had taken when going towards the Eid prayer place.
13 To go to the Eid prayer place on foot.
14 To read the following takbeer softly while walking towards the Eid prayer place:
