Kashmir Earthquake

Hundreds killed in Kashmir quake

Pakistan says more than 1,000 people may have died in a powerful quake that also hit north India and Afghanistan.

The quake in Kashmir had a magnitude of at least 7.6. The epicentre was 80km (50 miles) north-east of Islamabad.

Pakistan's interior ministry said several villages had been wiped out. Sixty people are so far confirmed dead in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Rescuers are trying to reach dozens of residents feared trapped in collapsed buildings in Islamabad.

Residents in the Afghan capital, Kabul, and India's capital, Delhi, are also reported to have felt the tremor.

To ALLAH do we belong and to HIM is our return.

Brothers and Respected Believing women, this is the ideal opportunity for us to earn a lot of money. The need for money and duas at this point in time are crucial. Yes duas are powerful and necessary but ALLAH has made this a world of means (Darul Asbaab) and in this situation our practical means of helping them is by giving money.

SubhanALLAH in normal circumstances the reward for unit currecny given in ALLAH's way is multiplied 700 times and in Ramadan that is multiplied by 70. So you can do the maths and work out how much profit there is in donating inshaALLAH.

Remember, this wealth we have is not ours, it is ALLAH and infact ALLAH commands us to give the wealth to the destitue which HE himself has given us. We keep our money in our wallets and banks because we think its ours, no, the money is ALLAH's and the Believing People have a greater right over it than us. SubhanALLAH does any1 think that by giving money to our brothers in need will decrease our wealth or that ALLAH will deprive us? Never. It cannot be that my ALLAH who gives even to the worst of sinners, that He would allow his Believing Slave to suffer loss by giving wealth in charity.

May ALLAH accept what has been said and may He ta'ala grant us tawfeeq to make amal on this.

To Allah we belong, and to him we return.

Islamabad has mostly gotten away with it as it is pretty far, and it was only hit by an aftershock.

This is pretty bad.

My prayers go to all affected.

.

Do you know how many were affected in Islamabad?

My Allah (swt) give them all strength and Sabr do get through this difficult time.

The President described this as a “test”.

Some people quick to call this a “punishment” because of the fact only recently the first gay marriage in Pakistan took place.

People always assume that they know best.

Allah (swt) knows best why this happened.

May Allah Almighty grant patience+strong Iman 2 al those who hav been affected by the earthquake. May we all take a great lesson from this that Qiyamat is fast approaching+we should ask 4 4givness and mercy from Allah Almighty as we neva know what is round the corner.

SubhanAllah!! Gay marriage?!?! astagfrullah, this is a muslim country, what is the world coming to Cray 2

My mum was in Kashmir, but Alhamdulillah was not affected Smile

truth is things like these are tests for ALLAH's true servants, and through these tests the person increases in ALLAH's standing as He remains firm on imaan and on islaam. For those who are sinners, this IS a punishment.

The ulama have mentioned that neglecting of salah is one of the reasons for earthquakes, and it is infact part of imaan to blame ourselves for the evil that befalls us. May ALLAH make the situation easy on the people.. ameen

the focus now should be on how WE can help our fellow Muslims who have been affected.... and not discuss whether it is a punishment from God or not.

Every single person should donate as much as possible. Just speaking to people in pakistan and they said Muzzafarabad is 90% destroyed. Earthquakes are still taking place NOW. Alot of villages across Pakistan have totally vanished, many are homeless...and have lost everything! People are in need of desperate help. People are scared and in need for our duaas, donations etc...

So pick up the phone and donate TODAY... whether its Islamic Relief, Muslim hands, Muslim aid etc....doesnt matter...also im sure most mosques are donating, collecting clothes etc...so everyone should take part and do their bit.

wasalaam

its VERY important to donate-

attend ALL fund rasing stuff!!

this morning on GEO they showed how 65 people died in a funeral when the roof fell on them

imagine that

passing away in someone elses funeral

Tobah Tobah.

They alway say you never know when your death comes, would any1 think they would die at the funeral of another?

To ALLAH do we belong to Him is our return.

May ALLAH have mercy on all the deceased of the Ummah. From Sayyidina Adam alayhis salaam til the last day, every person who brought Imaan on ALLAH, may His soul rest in honour and peace in the barzakh and may the trial and tribulation of the grave be made light on him.

'We have lost over 100 relatives'

After the massive earthquake that devastated Pakistan killing at least 19,000 people one distraught family living in the UK tells how they have lost many close relatives and more than 100 members of their extended family in the disaster.

The Ahmed family sit in a small room of a shop that houses the Kashmir International Relief Fund in Leytonstone, in east London.

hey have hardly slept for the past two days and their faces are worn and streaked with tears.

Many of their relatives live in a small village just outside Chehla-Bandi, in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

It is a remote, hilly area that has been badly hit by the earthquake, and no aid has yet reached the region.

So far they fear a cousin, a brother-in-law and his mother, brother, wife and four-month-old child are dead, and they have yet to hear from a sister in another village.

"We have uncles, aunts, and other relatives who are all dead," Jamil Ahmed, from Leyton, said.

"The local school collapsed and we don't know how many girls are buried underneath. There is no help."

The family are in constant contact with people in their village as they frantically try and get news about loved ones.

As they spoke of the relatives they had lost, their mobiles were constantly ringing as everyone scrambled for the latest information.

"Our brother-in-law, his mother, brother, wife and baby are all trapped. People can see their feet but they can't reach them," said Mr Ahmed.

'No point crying'

Another brother-in-law of Mr Ahmed's travelled to the area on Saturday night, with 30 others, to try and find missing relatives.

"When we first heard the news we started to shake. I am trying to block out the emotions and help as much as I can.

"There is no point in crying. we have to keep ourselves together for everyone else," said Mr Ahmed.

His brother Saffeer Awan, 43, said: "Our family lives in a small town and everyone there is related.

"Some areas are cut off from other areas because of landslides. There is a mountain on the side of our village that has massive cracks in it.

"There is utter devastation, they called it judgement day. It does feel like judgement day to me. It's devastating, it's like nothing you have experienced. We can't go out there yet because we could not survive. We feel so helpless.

"We don't just feel for our own family, we feel for everybody. My wife is devastated. Every time she hears about something else she breaks down.

'Too many to mourn'

"They buried 12 people today. Normally you would have 200 people going to one funeral, but only 25 people went to the burials. There is nobody around to go.

"People have laid many of the bodies out on the field, they are sitting with the dead bodies because there is no one to help bury them. There is nobody to dig graves for these people."

Sister Kanweez Ahmed, 47, said many people were too scared to go back inside because of the aftershocks.

"There are so many people who have lost their lives, we don't know who to mourn. There are too many to mourn.

Zahid Bashir, their nephew, said his brother is a doctor at the CMH hospital, but was luckily not working when the building collapsed.

"He said all the doctors at the hospital are dead. There is no one to give medical help."

It was the biggest quake in the history of Pakistan. Biggest in the region for over 100 years.

They graphic they used to illustrate that was very inappropriate.

No need for it.

Salam

Its best to donate cash rather than other items.

Moey gets there quicker; and also, people in need know better how and where to spend. They know best what they need most.

We are far way and often fail to see what is urgently required on the ground.

May God relieve their hardships.

Only yesterday the death toll was 20, 000 whilst today people are saying its 40,000 and still rising....

Apparently children are still buried alive in schools and are calling to their parents to get them out.

Villages have completely been wiped out.

I’m impressed with the donations that have been flowing in from various organisations….But they really need help; CNN mentioned today that there is no coordination between the various organisations that are there to help…

A scholar mentioned yesterday that natural disasters make us aware of the superior power of the Almighty…it makes us realise our dependency on Him. It’s sort of like a massive wake up call.

Wasalaam

I was watchin the news, its very upsettin watchin those poor children's bodies lying everywhere and those families who have lost their close ones and the comfort of their home.

May Allah bless all those who have passed away and give patience to those who have had such a huge loss.

All we can do is pray for them and donate as much as we can.

ameen, they showing pretty upsetting scenes on geo tv,makes one VERY emotional, cant help but feel guilt ...its really SAD, 1 man was crying saying he has been starving for 2 days and cant find his children,

may allah give them sabr AMEEN,and forgive and grant the deceased paradise.

Omrow ahmedis are not classed as Muslim anymore. (its shocking ad disgusting for the majority to pick on minorities)

and why are we discussing why the quake happened 90% of my family are homeless back in Pakistan and uncles and aunties in Mansera and shinkiari next to Balakot especially are devestated

no one or thing has brought this on it is just a natural disaster and they happen, who knows what Allah's motives are?

we can only send aid and pray for their safety and ask Allah to be merciful Ameen

One question that may arise in our mind is why are these calamities, and destructions happenning to muslims. Yes, indeed the opressosrs are the wrong doers. They make destruction and kill muslims and steal their properties. On the other side, it is worth for us to look on ourselves so that we can improve our weaknesses. I would like to recite one hadith (a saying or doing of Prophet Mohammed)…and I don’t intend to elaborate on it. Let us hear and we judge it ourselves.

The companion ‘Abdullaah Ibn ‘Abbaas r.a. (may Allah be pleased with him), narrated that the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): “Five matters result when five things happen: If people break their covenant with Allaah, He will send an enemy against them; If they rule by other than the Law of Allaah, poverty will spread among them; If they become deceptive in trade, Allaah will deprive them of crops and they will be struck with famine; And if they withhold the payment of Zakaah, they will be struck with drought.”.
[At- Tabaraani]

In another narration he sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said: “If they break the covenant of Allaah and His Messenger, Allaah will send an external enemy against them who will seize some of their possessions; If they do not rule by the Book of Allaah, nor attempt to implement everything in it, Allaah will spread enmity among them.”

Conversely, obeying Allaah and His Messenger sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam is the source of victory. Allaah says

“O you who have believed, if you support Allaah, He will support you [by giving you victory].”
[Surah Muhammad Ayah 7]

Indeed, Allah gives victory to those who deserve it. And most of the times defeat comes from ourselves.

One night, Sa’d Ibn Abi Waqqaas, may Allaah be pleased with him, was checking on his army during the battle of Qaadisiyyah. He passed by the tent of one group of soldiers at night and found the men inside praying Qiyaam, or voluntary night-prayer, and remarked: ‘Victory comes from such a tent’ then he passed by another tent and found the men inside sleeping and remarked: ‘Defeat comes from such a tent.’ This was despite the fact that the men who were sleeping only missed a recommended prayer and not an obligatory one; yet Sa’d considered missing this recommended act to be a reason for defeat.

Let us avoid destructions, disasters and humiliation. Muslims have experienced to many appalling tragedy in their own land, It was Bosnia, Palestine, Iraq and tomorrow we never know whose turn.

The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam was once asked: “Would we be punished by disasters which befall us while we have righteous people amongst us?’ he sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam replied: “Yes, if evil becomes widespread.” Allaah says clearly on this issue in al Quraan:

“And fear the Fitnah (afflictions and trials, etc.) which affects not in particular (only) those of you who do wrong (but it may afflict all the good and the bad people), and know that Allâh is Severe in punishment".
[Surah Al-Anfaal Ayah 25]

Therefore, if Muslims truly wish for safety from destruction and given victory, then they must change and improve what is in themselves as Allaah says that which translates as:

“For each (person), there are angels in succession, before and behind him. They guard him by the Command of Allâh. Verily! Allâh will not change the good condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness themselves. But when Allâh wills a people's punishment, there can be no turning back of it, and they will find besides Him no protector.”.
[Surah Ar-Ra’d Ayah 11]

very good Darth we do know this but even knowing this when a calamity does fall most of us do think we have brought it on ourselves but we also have to get on with it and not dwell too much and thank Allah it was not worse and go on building our futures best we can

when a thing happens to me its usually my own fault but i have to be optimistic and pray that the thing goes away and Allah is merciful whilst examining my own actions

these long sentences are killing me!

true

like i always say, things happen for a reason - we are gona be asked what we did to help the vitcims

its pointless looking as to why it happened - Only Allah swt knows best

Quake is 'punishment from Allah'

Preaching from the ruins of his once beautiful mosque, the Mullah of Battal offered a simple answer to the question posed time and again since the Pakistan earthquake: why?

''Allah has sent this great punishment on account of our misdeeds," he said, jabbing a finger at the open sky. "We must now end our rebellion against the orders of Allah and submit ourselves again to his ways."

As Mullah Abdul Hayee declaimed his Friday sermon, his voice soaring with wrath then sinking with emotion, a crowd of more than 1,500 reflected on a truly dreadful week.

''We should not dwell on our misfortunes," urged Mullah Hayee. "We should give thanks to almighty Allah that we were not so unfortunate as many others who suffered even greater agonies."

In this small town, perched on the mountain along the Silk Route to China, more than 100 children were killed when their school collapsed.

The destruction of schools where many buildings are still standing has exposed the racket of contractors who skimp on building materials to fatten their profits.

As the mullah's voice cracked, so did the expressions in the front row. Its mostly elderly faces shed tears at the mention of those who were gone.

It has been a week when Pakistanis have seen all too clearly the limitations of the military bureaucracy that runs their country, the army having largely failed to mobilise after the tragedy.

For all the manpower at the disposal of the army - the world's sixth largest - the lack of command and control has seriously hampered efforts to deliver aid where it is needed most. Doctors working at the main triage station in Muzaffarabad still have no generator to power proper lighting for surgery or beds on which to perform it.

While aid lorries are emptied at the roadside by so-called ''victims'', thousands of those in desperate need are still going without.

Mullah Hayee praised the foreigners who had brought aid to the town. ''I urge you not to chase after the aid lorries like dogs. Be lions, be the lions of Allah," he said.

"If you must beg, then beg from Allah. You must die with hunger instead of attacking relief convoys.''

For all the mullah's exhortations, the people of Battal are angry. "Nearly a week has passed now and only today has the army arrived in our town," said Tayyab Ur Rehman, a primary school teacher. "The snows are coming soon, then it will be freezing. Tell people we need help."

For others, such as Mushtaq Hussain, from the Jabr Valley, there was no time for prayers yesterday. ''The people up there [beyond the limits of the road] have not received anything," he said. "The children are injured. Some have died since last week because they have no shelter."
