What is the Islam's take on transgenders?

Salaams everyone. I was recently watching a channel 4 documentary on transgenders in Pakistan and it got me wondering what Islam said on the issue of transgenders and by that I mean people born with both sets of sexual organs and hormones not people with gender issues and sex changes.

In Islam are these transgender people seen as haram, outcasts or as a third gender because at the end of the day they too are creations of Allah (SWA). Are they allowed to marry, do Hajj and Umrah? Are they allowed to fast and read namaz?

Your help in this conundrum of mine would be greatly appreciated.

No one is 50/50.

Such people have been around with the birth defects etc for a long time and they have been dealt with in various ways.

Currently, since medicine is up to is, the best course of action would be surgery to go one way or the other - however in places such as Pakistan, poverty would be a big issue.

There will also be a lot more literature on this topic, but I havent really read up on it (except that in once case, indirectly seeing which organ was used to urinate was used to decide on an inheritance dispute).

I'm sure they are allowed to go to hajj/umrah, fast, pray. It is the duty upon every person to worship Allah (swt) and they are human after all! Smile

People cannot be haram. As you say they are Allah's creation and they are people like us, not some outer space beings...or pigs...just saying, you know cuz pigs are haram...err..

As for marriage, well I'm not sure how it'd work if they were actually 50/50 and hadn't had treatment :S But once my friend told me about someone who got married to one and found out later about it and wanted a divorce. Beee

i believe the parents just wait and see how the kid grows up and then tgether make a decision to go one way or the other.

we're talking about the people who have both genders/no genders right? not the "im a woman trapped in a man's body" thing irght? coz the second one i think is wrong.. and the confusion arises (i think) when people use the same term for both cases which are TOTALLY different!

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?

yeah thats what my question is about.

Would they not wait till puberty and their more dominant gender would come out?
