Hajj is becoming more and more expensive each year and I just thought it's cuz of inflation. But I've across a view that it might be cuz Saudi wants to commercialise the cities and use the money to just improve the place. Also that it will soon become a monopoly for the richest!
That's a scary thought! How true do you think it is?
I don't really buy it cuz it means people won't be able to perform their duty as a Muslim (would Allah allow that?) also if less people go then the Saudis will stop getting money.
in the first episode of the BBC Prophet (pbuh) series. there's a shot of Macca from far. and its kinda scary how on the left of haram there are this TALL buildings, literally LOOMING over the Macca.
Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
You only have to do it once in a lifetime and for that, something costing a grand or two is not too bad (for us living in the UK).

people can spend hundreds of pounds on holiday trips and other luxury places, this is much better than any kind of worldly entertainment and it only has to be done once in a lifetime; therefore money shouldn't be much of an issue.. i'm sure it wouldn't go too high; there are millions of people who go hajj; therefore when prices change the saudi government or whoever controls that stuff would ofcourse think about the effect it would have on everyone.
"And do not throw yourself into destruction with your own hands." (Baqarah 195).
There are people out there who make just enough to live on and don't think about luxury holidays so it's not really about that.
There's no reason why the saudis would think about others. (ok I don't completely believe they wouldn't, but trying to look at things from another angle)
"How many people find fault in what they're reading and the fault is in their own understanding" Al Mutanabbi
fair enough; thats true.. but then there is something called saving; i'm sure if you saved up for a while, a year or so, you could make out enough money to earn yourself a trip to hajj.. there's no fixed ago that you have to do it by, it's when you have an adequate means to afford the journey.
"And do not throw yourself into destruction with your own hands." (Baqarah 195).
Yep, of course.
But the whole point of this topic was if you think the Saudis would ever make it too expensive. I'm guessing your answer is no lol

sorry i went off topic! and yes that'd be my answer..
"And do not throw yourself into destruction with your own hands." (Baqarah 195).
it is becoming really expensive. like REALLY expensive. especially if you get a package, which most people do.
and saving round 3000 pounds isnt easy. nuh-huh.
and it seems get more expensive day by day.
i think this calls for a google search.
Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
i guess thats that. If they are making it expensive just for the sake of money, they'll be accountable for it Yawmul Qiyamah.
Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
@feefs you read hamza's line about profiting from the prophets..
I think if we compare the price of hajj histoprically, we are at the point where, especially for us in the UK, it is the most accessible it has probably ever been for the general muslim population.

Hmm, it's making me think - I'd never put it that way 'profiting from the Prophets'. What is the world coming to, if people are doing that with the wrong intention :/
"How many people find fault in what they're reading and the fault is in their own understanding" Al Mutanabbi
I would disagree with that quote.
There can be legitimate earnings from Islam.
I think that there is even a hadith that says that God loves those who earn (a living) - or something like that.

It's not talking about legitimate earnings though, talking about those who wrongly use Islam to make money. If hajj does become ridiculously expensive, then that would be an example
