Spreading weakness through conspiracy theories

How many times have you heard comments that suggest someone else is in charge of your destiny?

"America controls the media"
"they don't like us"
"The Israelis control everything"

or even comments such as "the kuffar media".

Add to that talk about freemasons, the illuminati and any other group which is supposed to either control the world or have grand plans to control the world.

I am sure you have all heard of something along those lines.

There is one thing all taht talk has in common - and its not that it is all true.

The thing in common is that it all makes us weak.

It takes the power of action out of our hands.

Instead of doing something to fix any problems, it allows us to throw up our hands as if things are not in our control.

Look at Egypt. For decades people said "Mubarak is supported by the US, we cannot do anything about him". All it took was for a few people to think "maybe we can do something about him" and suddenly he is no longer in power.

I am not for one second suggesting that he was not supported by the US, I am just saying how using those words can make people weak.

We should not go around blaming the US/Israel for our woes all the time. Not only is it often not true, it often makes us weak and stops us from taking affirmative action to solve the problems.

If you go back to 9/11, many Muslims dug their hands into sand ostrich style and often blamed others for those actions, often using words like "muslims couldn't do that".

Years later, there are still Muslims that think "all these suicide bombs that happen in Muslim countries, they can't be by Muslims - they have to be by foriegn agents" and then they blame the US, Israel or india or any other bogeyman that is present in that region.

All that does is it stops the underlying issues to be addressed and fixed.

Talking ourselves into conspiracy theories makes us weak and it hurts us.

sunhanallah i think you have outlined a very important point. This is a great wake up call to all the muslims out there who like to just talk about conspiracy theories and make excuses for not taking any action. i dont understand why people go on and on about things that may or may not be true without any evidence to back them up. Alot of muslims like to think they are smarter than everybody else out there, and theat they are the only ones who know what is really happening. when in actual fact they are the ones who are being controlled by their loose imagination. Muslims need to stop going on about the media controlling everyone and get off the defensive and start to use what Allah(swt) has given them to revive the ummah.

if i have said anything to offend anyone please forgive me insha allah and may Allah(swt) guide us all.

good point. and anyway, us in our little day to day life, when does US come into it? or even media? (Except if we let it). Its no biggie, make little change around you, set the trends, step forward. I dont get how we can blame anyone. (most of the time)

i dont know what im talking about...

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?

Are we going to be influenced or are we going to be ones who influence others

I think media does play some part in everyones life - even if its through subliminal and/or indirectly. How much, I'm not sure.

What do you guys think we can actually do as young Muslims, to "make a difference in the world"?

hmm...maybe, seek knowledge? differentiate between the culture and the religion, a REVIVAL might be in need.
just remembering out priorities and why we're here. Then i think it'll go on from there...

i really shouldnt be here...

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?

Yes but after we've done the "revivaling" / "waking up" bit? what actions can we take from there? what should we be going out and actually doing?

are you asking for a drastic solution where an instant change will come tomorrow?

or are you asking for a the first step to a gradual solution?

A first step. A drastic solution is too much to ask for.
