Just A Thought on Secrets

This is just a thought and i cant quote like many of you can, but i heard and i think it sounds right.
If you keep a secret of someones (even if they do wrong)
Allah hides 1 of your sins on the day of judgement. (correct me if im wrong)

If this is true why are so many people so eger to snitch on one another?
