I think there are some in the EDL who join simply as a means to protest against Anjem Choudary's mob, not realising the group they are joining up with!
Some, but not many. You don't have to spend long around them before the conversation turns to football firms and in their forums they are transparently protecting the public from seeing things like their Nazi tattoos. In conversations I have had with EDL activists who I might have generously expected to be naive, I have concluded that they know and are in denial.
