Someone gave me a ramadan calender this year... just so i tick the days off as I go. Its very much like an advent calender where you open up a small 'door' (for the lack of a better word) and inside theres a small verse from the Quran or a saying of the prophet (pbuh).
And i thought id share some of them with you.
At the very top theres the quote:
"The best of you is he (or she) who is of most benefit to others." - [i]saying of the prophet (pbuh)[/i]
But isnt that encouraging the whole use and abuse concept? Anyway, the following days read as:
Day 1: Do you remember how much fo the Quran you read last Ramadan? This year try to read even more!
Inshallah i hope to beat my previous years score.
Day 2: A believer wants for his brother what he wants for himself - saying of the Prophet (pbuh)
Sooooo women are excluded from this??
Day 3: Did you know that every 3.6 seconds one person dies of starvation? Usually, the child is under 5 years of age.
Thats kinda depressing :/
Day 4: This Ramadan, spend 5 minutes every night before going to bed thinking about Allah (swt) and everything he does for us
Something i think which alot of people forget to do.
Day 5: "He (Allah (swt)) it is that has made you inheritors in the Earth." (The Quran chapter 35, verse 39)
huh?
Day 6: Did you know that 32% of girls in Sub-Saharan Africa have never atteneded school?
Day 7: "Verily, never will Allah (swt) change the condition of a people until they change it for themselves." (Quran, chapter 13, verse 11)
God helps those who help themselves?
Day 8: Did you know that 400 million children have no access to safe drinking water? Dirty water and sanitation causes 4000 deaths every day!
surely that cant be right?
Day 9: Ramadan is a chance for Muslims to 'recharge their batteries' and to become better people. Are there any things about you that you could be better at in the coming year?
hmmm something i could be better at.................... wat was the question again?
Day 10: "Live in this world as if you were goiong to live forever; prepare for the next world as if you were going to die tomorrow." -saying of the prophet (pbuh)
will add more as the days of ramadan go.

I wish someone had given me a Ramadan Calender too!
I'm going to make one for next year and then hide it.
And then I'm going to write down somewhere (somewhere where I look often obviously) where I've hidden it.
And then insha'allah, I'm going to get it out next year and hopefully forgotten what I'd written in it the year before.
And then insha'allah I'm going to be surprised.
And then be really excited to open each 'door' at Sehri.

Also I believe its a social reformation, that is God does not change a people (society) at the level of society until they make efforts to change themselves on the personal level. This is basically the essence of Islamic citizenship, everyone sorts their own house out and eventually the whole street's sorted, then the city, the country etc.

I remember we bought ramadan advent caledar from Asda.
It had chocolate in it.
Like the xmas ones do.
It was well cool.!
I brought PVA glue today for my home made Ramadan advent Calendar 2010.

I see a problem in the plan... your best bet may to get someone else involved too - so you only know what is in their calendar.

I've made the front of the Calendar: it has a massive Ramadan Mubarak 2010 at the front.
Left it to dry overnight.
