Can we expand a bit more on what your trying to say?
Are you looking for any specific answers?
I think this topic is a bit vague.
No offence sorry.I just dont understand what exactly, your looking. When people say "Girls and freedom" I usually think about the headscarf.

Nice generic answer there.

hey, no wories, i was talking about moving out of home as soon as your an adult instead of having to wait until marriage to move out. oh and about headscarves, i know people who are forced to wear it but end of the day it should be really up to the person who is wearing it.
Do you think wat i sed was wrong?

Soz, but i dont think boys have much problem moving into their own houses before marriages or maybe its just my culture. i just want justice on equality.

Not all guys have the freedom to move out either...
Considering that a large number of women don't wear it, I think they are given a choice here...
EDIT - just a note. quoting the users sigs can make the answers hard to follow. just click the quote link instead of the reply and it may be easier for you...

How about moving in with a friend?
About headscarves, they shouldn't be forced onto anyone, but "There is no compulsion in religion," (2:256) as the Quran points out.
But most people who wear it love it, becuase it forced others to look at their personality rather than their attractiveness, and that's great bonus.

Is that really true?

Oh yeah, those that do wear it anyway, prominent ones include Yvonne Ridley, Salma Yaqoob amongst others.

I meant the latter bit:
Is that really true?
"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.
depends from people to people doesnt it? it cant be a generalised statement. If he had written "...because it helps others to look more at their personality rather than their attractiveness..."
would you have questioned it?
Reason I questioned it is IMO it is not true, and using that as an argument for hijab may be unfair. Imagination rules the world.

But thats always one of the positive points people write about the headscarf! Thats always the first one... blah blah people will respect women for their personality and kindness and not their looks....
isnt it?
dont know if its true or not though.
It is, but I think they may be wrong.

If it means people focus on intelligence rather than beauty, how come I find Salma Yaqoob stunningly beautiful?
(and I don't mean just cos of the name!)
Don't just do something! Stand there.
Yo fateha!
so, like me, you end up turning to internet and online friends, because the real one arent what they seem to be...
if im not mistaken, i would like to introduce you guys to FATEHA, THE fateha, remember?? it doesnt matter...
why i think that the fateha who is in my form? well i know only ONE fateha, this fateha is from London, she remembered her login as when we first registered (ages back) and... she writes like she txts??
anyway about ur issue
i dont know anything about moving out, but i know ur not allowed to stay away from ur mahram (there is a distance, but its not much) i dont think you can stay by urself... but, like miss Annah, you could maybe live with someone, i think you can do that...
anyway sorry if ur not THE fateha i know...and, if u are, i dont really wanna be ur friend, just classmate eh?
Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
Just because you said so?

Freedom to work, pray, rest, chill etc
Wat else could you want?
When life offers you a dream so far beyond any of your expectations, it is not reasonable to grieve when it comes to an end.
A hoverboard, surely?

You can make the two coincide you know?
If a person wears it of her own accord, I would guess it means more.

Do you think so?
I think, the more you have worn your headscarf, the more you appreciate it. and the more proud you feel to wear it. Also, the more you're attached to it. Although, the attachment might come from being so used to it,you dont know how its going to feel without it.
I imagine you don't look at Salma Yaqoob, and think yummm! Astagfirullah if you do!
Hijabis are less likey to be sexually harassed and people are less likely to make suggestive comments to them, doesn't give them immunity, nothing does but somethings increase your "endurance" or shield.

sorry this being my first post and me being a new member,BUT having read this topic i have been a bit puzzled over some of the points made......
first to give a reply to the actual topic...
if we are sisters that live with our Muslim families then I don't see why we would move out of that environment, to move in to a place where we won't have the protection of a mahram!
the next thing i would like to say is regarding the hijab.....yes it's true that ''there is no compulsion in religion'' however how can you use that ayah of the quran when Allah talaa has already told us in the quran to wear our hijabs?
“And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts) and not to show off their adornment except only that which is apparent (like both eyes for necessity to see the way, or outer palms of hands or one eye or dress like veil, gloves, head cover, apron), and to draw their veils all over Juyubihinna (i.e. their bodies, faces, necks and bosoms) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband’s fathers, or their sons, or their husband’s sons, or their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sister’s sons, or their (Muslim) women (i.e. their sisters in Islam), or the (female) slaves whom their right hands possess, or old male servants who lack vigour, or small children who have no sense of feminine sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful”
[al-Noor 24:31]
you saying hijab isn't fardh is like me saying salat isn't fardh...when actually deep down in our hearts we all know it is!!!!
