This Islamic Event entitled "Tragedy of Karbala" is dedicated to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RZ) and the Martyrs of Karbala.
Hazrat Imam Hussain (RZ) was the Grandson of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him).
Hazrat Imam Hussain's (RZ) Father was Hazrat Ali (RZ) and Hazrat Imam Hussain's (RZ) Mother was Hazrat Fatimah (RZ) who Herself was the Daughter of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him).
You can read more about this most tragic event in the history of Islam in the book entitled:
The Tradegy of Karbala and the Martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RZ)
written by our Sheikh Hazrat Abu Anees Muhammad Barkat Ali (QSA).

Sometimes I find it surprising that people can focus so heavily on the past when there are many tragedies happening now.
But then I remember (rather, I have been told) that that one while grave, did revive the Muslims but the current ones just look bleak.
"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.
Salaams,
The tragedy of Karbala & Martydom of Imam Hussain (RA) is not only an important part of our Islamic History but also it teaches/reminds us of lessons which we need to learn and which are very relevant to the world we live in.
One of the scholars from our time has stated:-
Sayyidina Ninowy (dba) said:"We remember this day, because it is a day, the Prophet- sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam-himself remembered, weeped for, and cried.
It is a day that saddened his heart -sallallahu alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam- as if the dagger was put into his heart instead of his son Imam Husayn (as).
It is a day, where we share with the Prophet and His Family -alayhem assalam- our tears and remember that our tears that we pour were matched by blood they shed, and our sleeping at night was met by their daughters of Fatima-Azzahra sleeping with the chains, under the swords of Yazid and the humiliation of his allies, it is a day where we feel the winds of Karbala and the smell of the blood of the Qur'an that was shed, witnessing the crying and tears of Heavens upon us".
So I say, in this Muharram, we stand with more will to keep going despite the Yazidi's of nowadays, who pose as "pious, concerned, involved", etc.. who still embody Yazid in everything...where Iman is stripped from them whether they know it or not. Yazidi's; a shaytani spiritual offspring still exists: the same behavior, the same tactics, the same labels, the same tricks, ......the same ugly and cursed faces.
