He did his job, got paid and you passed.

Everyone goes home happy.

hmmm a tendancy to over-compensate. Interesting.

If, as you say, you did give him headaches im pretty sure he's well happy to be shot of you and doesnt really need the reminder. In which case nothing.

On the other hand, everyone likes to be thanked for something they do. Even when its part of their job. In which case a box of Roses (the chocolates... not the flower) would be appropriate. Not too pricy but something he will enjoy.

The ppl that have posted on this forum for a long time know what you meant by yor post, he didnt realise what you meant by it so he took it to heart.

'luck' means random chance. Muslims don't believe things occur by 'chance', they occur because of Allah's (swt) will.

by saying 'good luck' you are saying (whether you intend it or not) 'I hope things happen by chance in a way that is good for you.'

This would mean that Allah (swt) is not responsible for everything that happens to you.

Which mean would He is not in control of anything.

Which would mean He has 'partners'.

Which is Shirk.

I am not being an extremist, I can't see how anyone wouldn't realise this.

that's true...BUT it doesn't swing one way because of a random chance, it swings because Allah (swt) wills it to swing that direction.

I understand the 'hoping for the best', of course this is what we all do.

I just have a problem with people saying 'good luck', 'wish me luck' or 'that was lucky'. What's wrong with saying 'May Allah (swt) make it easy for you', 'please make du'aa for me' or 'alhamdulillah'.

Surely we should say those phrases instead, because that way we're actually getting a reward too!

Yaqub we've had this conersation before. Luck can be from Allah, it's just outside our control!

That sentence doesn't make sense.

Part of the definition of the word 'luck' means that is by chance. i.e not in ANYONE's control, including Allah (swt).

In the sentence above, you are changing the meaning of the word 'luck'.

You are free to do that, but it leads to confusion when talking to other English people, so surely it would be better to not use the word 'luck' at all and use a more Islamically-acceptable word, no?

That is a figure of speech too, but it is another example of shirk.

Every morning all our body parts get worried that our mouth will say something that will lead us into the hellfire. The Qur'an says that there are some things which we think are small but will be big on the Day of Judgement.

You could assume that it is nothing, but personally I prefer to be safe rather than sorry.

It's not like you lose anything be not saying 'good luck' or whatever, there are plenty of other phrases that don't run the same risk.

I don't see why your defending the use of a phrase/concept that is clearly against the fundamental principals of Islam. Is it because you have used the phrase before and thus are defensive about it?

It would be better to swallow your pride (difficult to do while fasting!) and just try to stop using it in the future.

Think of it like you always bring a friend called 'Justin Case' and he can remind you to always be prepared and take precaution.

Except when I say good luck, my nia is asking Allah, I don't believe luck is out of Allah's hands just ours. I always say Inshallah to Muslims. But if it worries you, Master Yaqub, I'm not in love with that phrase.
